I started listening to Kpop in 2007 and just within the past 3-4 years or so I've fell out of it. I'm not a big fan of the style of music being produced recently and the groups/artists I've followed have either disbanded or left the industry. Most of it just sounds like rebranded Western music now. For the long time fans still around, is Kpop still as popular as it used to be in foreign circles, or has it slowly started to wane? Coming more from an outsider perspective now, I barely hear anything about it anymore, but I can't tell if it's just me or it's more widespread.

I don't really 'get' kpop. Every time I see a webm with an interesting or catchy looking dance like in the OP, I think "man they're really moving, I bet that's a catchy song or at least something with a decent melody" and I click it only to hear the musical equivalent of watching paint dry. I'd compare it to being AI slop because of how bland and unremarkable it always is, but ironically music AI like suno actually produces pretty catchy songs from time to time. Is the appeal really just seeing cute girls dance? If so, I respect that, but how many of you actually listen to these webms with the sound unmuted? I'll also say that when kpop was first blowing up, I was shown some songs by other kpop groups (Twice and I think a group called girlfriend? Something like that) and the music actually WAS catchy. What keeps you guys going?
