Say what you want about him, but at least he actually drew his passion project
>>7185229she is literally God
>>7183594This is a disgusting and stupid way of thinking, the process of drawing is disgusting because you know that the result will be crap, and it ends up being crap. You can only have fun by mastering normal drawing and going through an infinity of shitty cubes, figures, structures, etc. I hate the process of drawing until I can't draw everything properly
>>7183418i am heavily buzzed so i will admit my inspiration ive gotten from him. same with the mike and melissa guy. he was cringe but he completed it. these people bore their weird and disgusting artwork to the scathing internet, why shouldn't I? who even cares about pixels on a screen spelling out opinion i dont even have to acknowledge?i have to thank retards like chris chan for his effort on artwork. im not autistic but i wish i could focus on a single topic for a long time like he does.
>>7183594>>7183650Pissheads are overrated you filthy street shitter
>>7183418I'm not sure if it's a good idea to draw stuff like that. Chris obviously had a bad time at college with his lovequest, and drawing a whole comic about that experience together with your favorite OCs probably won't help you forget it.

Tried to draw a cute fox doing a cute pose completely from imagination. Started as charcoal scribbles and then I kept refining it until I got this.
It's done. It's over. I'm free. Free at last. I spent way too long on this. Marker and pigment liner.

Is character design a dying art in the west?
>>7185873I agree, I just felt like pointing out that not all fat characters are the same. I get what you mean, tho.
Honestly I can't remember the last time I loved a western character design, and I'm not one of you weeaboos. My standards for great character design are The Incredibles in the west and Street Fighter in Japan. I mean, what happened to Pixar? Are there even any new cartoons being made on the level of The Simpsons? One problem is that in the realm of vidya, the west is OBSESSED with gritty normalfag "realism." Every game needs to look like The Walking Dead. We really lost our souls with the death of the mascot character (scrimblo) in the 2000s.
>>7185894>I mean, what happened to Pixar?Disney and shareholders happened. They tried a new thing with wish and I'm not going to speculate whenever they didn't fully commit to the drawn-but-3d concept out of fear being too radical for the audience or they truly thought that was the way to do it, but social media crowd thinks it's a flop, most didn't even understand what Pixar was trying to do. It's also kinda funny in a tragic way that they didn't account to mobile screens not being able to pick up all the visual nuances, which resulted in tons of rage during the first trailer reveal.I'm only talking about visuals here, the story is a separate mess.
>>7185827>I'm struggling to think of an iconic western character design within the last 10 years that will endure and be seen as classic down the road
>>7185894>One problem is that in the realm of vidya, the west is OBSESSED with gritty normalfag "realism."The picture you posted is a perfect example of that.
what's a good brand of alcohol markers?I can't into colored pencils
>>7182749these are ohuhu acrylic markers and this is literally just printer paper i got from wallgreens
>>7182789sorry i liedi didn't get it from wallgreens....
>>7181797Copics are obviously the best but I would not recommend them if you're just starting out with markers. Ohuhu is great too and you can find them pretty reasonably priced/on sale on Amazon often. Chinesium markers will make do, but can have trouble blending and bleeding (I've had multiple instances where I put my marker to paper and it just gushes ink). The few Artist Loft markers I have are actually gunky on both the chisel and brush tip, super gross. I know you said you "can't into colored pencils" - whatever that means - but using alcohol markers as a base then doing shading and highlights with colored pencils looks amazing.
>>7183393>using alcohol markers as a base then doing shading and highlights with colored pencils looks amazing.how would I do that?
>>7183897...Using alcohol marker to lay the midtone and coloring the shadows and highlights with colored pencils on top.
>There is one thing not to do, and that is simply to drift along with the daily routine, making no extra effort. You will soon find yourself middle-aged, having done nothing more than routine jobs, and being little farther along than you were years ago. The extra effort is the difference between the great mass of mediocre artists and the comparatively small group of very good ones.>And in Art, study can never stop. You will find sketches galore in the studio of the good man, with the paint quite fresh. The mediocre artist's sketches are old and dusty.>I have seen so many middle-aged artists still hoping, whose samples are frayed at the edges, and thumb-marked with time. Sometimes it has been a matter of years since they sat down and actually did something to give their hopes any promise. They are plodding their lives away at something they hate, and doing nothing about it. These are the men who never seem to have had a chance. getting back into drawing. drew a part of my living room. noticed wonky perspective in this sketch so i decided ill study that, and just super simplify objects into boxes to really emphasize it. 5 point perspective looks hella enticing

Is it worth drawing out of anger and jealousy? Is it worth trying to get better than someone else only because they draw with zero effort or have zero quality and yet seem to have so many fans? I've been trying to draw with these as main motivations but I am not sure if they're even good reasons to keep going. I've just gotten too tired seeing other artists somehow do better that I've started picking up the pencil just so I can attempt at getting further than they have in terms of skills.
im pretty spiteful and a little jealous, but the jealousy doesnt manifest negatively. i just want to improve alongside others i respect and am disappointed in myself if i fall behind. no, i dont enjoy seeing people i hate succeed, because i am a normal person. anyways im good enough to always get a random bunch of compliments on my art and live off of it, even though I literally dont understand how i deserve it relative to others sometimes, so i guess this way of living works.
>>7184616Getting a hobby is unironically the best way to fix anger/jealousy/depression issues. Being constructive is a lot better than being destructive. So keep at it king and just remember that you aren't the fucking main character.
>>7184616I draw out of spite too.
Posting sequel for the hell of it.I have inked the previous page, but posted the pencil version by accident.
I once drove a guy to massively improve by talking so much shit about his excessive use of layers he went off the grid for two months to practice. To this day few pieces in his portfolio top the one where his OC rapes mine to death while calling me a faggot. They say you're your biggest hater but you must always find a place in your heart for an even bigger hater and never rest until he shuts the fuck up.
the last time i drew a character from someone else was in grade school
>>7181883I dont like to call my characters oc's because its a gay name. I just make charcuterÃa for my stories and thats it.

>>7181883>the last time i drew a character from someone else was in grade school?
>>7181896a lot of professional artists will just design characters for fun and then later when they're putting pitches together they'll have a library of unused people they slot in places. you see it all the time in interviews and commentaries and stuff.the only real difference is just the word "OC," they just call them character drawings (i'd say technique too, but honestly some tumblr/twit artists are pro tier on technique)

God demonstrated His love to us by sending His Son Jesus Christ, who died and rose from the dead to Give us eternal life. He also promised to heal your body. If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead. He'll give you eternal life.
I'm giving myself an ultimatum. I want to get good at drawing within a year otherwise I'm offing myself. What guides should I follow?
>>7184259>You need to force yourself to do things even though you don't feel like it.That's not how ADHD works. If there's no immediate consequence to not doing something, then I won't do it. It doesn't matter how badly I want to do it, it won't happen.
>>7173277YOU ARE STUPID. THIS IS NOT HOW ART WORKS IF YOU ARE A FRESH BEGINNER OR /BEG/.Give yourself some patience for fucks sake. art is not a race; life is not a race. Life is a canvas for you to paint on. Take your time and make it special.>>7173290I've had this too. My childhood sucked. I was abused and hurt and yelled at before I even knew what any of that meant. I'm sure you understand to a degree. but you are not a child anymore, and neither am I. It's time to take care of yourself now that you are wiser. There are no excuses in that, regardless of your life path.Life is not as black and white as you think. The fact that you are even trying at a creation-based hobby is admirable in itself, even if you suck at it. The hardest part about a creation-based hobby is realizing how slow the progress is. You aren't a program, you are a fleshy human that feels joy, pleasure, pain, heartbreak, regret... Yet you're putting the time in and millimeter by millimeter you are improving, even by an un-noticeable degree. That's just how it works. we aren't machines, and this is reality. Art is a slow-moving hobby. You have a life. It's just how it is.It is high-effort/low reward. But the pleasure you learn to take in the expression is something unlike anything else. if you keep going, you can illustrate whatever YOU want. it takes years to do, but do you want to skip out on that? is the canvas of life something you truly want to throw away, OP?Maybe lot yourself some more time before you plan to kill yourself, that's all im saying. Learm to be an artist's artist. I think you'll really like what you see.
>>7173277Vows made in storm are forgotten in calm.
>>7185342I feel like this is the only way to motivate myself. I've already wasted so much time as it is doing nothing and I'll continue to do nothing unless I start threatening to literally want to die for it.
"getting good" depends on what your artistic goals are. You can follow every guide in the world but still not achieve a desired result if you don't really know what you want.Experiment with different mediums, draw fanart, do anything that seems fun. I hope you naturally find what calls to you.

Around 1 month into drawing practice I've been feeling like this nonstop, does the green line ever catch up with the orange one or will I hate my own work forever?

>>7185499I didn't say I dislike the colours. The bandages could have been sweat bands for example.>>7185512>rulesRules? I didn't say anything so intellectual; I just said I thought the bandages were stupid. I'm sure you think those tumblr-esque designs where the character's have slash scars all over their arms and legs, or some weird blotchy skin condition look stupid too, how's my critique any different?>>7185514Maybe if they were rope instead? To me it just looks like medical bandages.
>>7185491>It just doesn't gel with the rest of her happy bright aestheticWhat do you mean? That's what makes it more interesting. Maybe the character is a klutz or maybe the story isn't actually happy. Having bright aesthetic with dark story has its own appeal.
