Go /p/ro:
• Please post images that are JPG format and ideally smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side.
• Expect to be judged harshly. Learn to deal with it.

Want:
• We come here for photos, so post yours as often as possible, even if "image unrelated" to your text.
• "Flickr/500px/Tumblr/Facebook/Portfolio" threads are for critique and networking.
• Use "Recent Photos" threads if you are shy or only want to post a couple of photos.
• Shared raw files which we can collectively edit for discussion of post-processing techniques, are encouraged.
• Use the Catalog to consolidate similar topics (photographic themes, images or technical gear threads).

Do not want:
• Go to /wsr/ or /r/ for specific Photoshop requests.
• Gear threads are discouraged, but identified as necessary. Many users simply hide these threads.

yea I do like this 70-350 but I keep seeing birds and thinking man if only I had more reach... which is cope for poor approach but it is what it is.
I keep thinking however if I get the 500 I would just have those same thoughts at 500mm and think "man if only I had 600mm"

You have a few options with removing people from the frame without ever having to talk to them.

1. Take multiple photos from a tripod as people move around and take the portions of the various photos that didn't have people in them to make a single composite image.

2. If your tripod is extremely sturdy and there isn't a lot of movement from wind, you can use an ND filter (i.e. 10 stops) with a very, very long exposure in the middle of the day to essentially blur away any people. This doesn't work as well for people who stand in one spot for a very long time.

3. Combine the two above methods if necessary, for example to get rid of someone who stood in one place for a very long time before moving.

Birding on a film camera.

I am thinking of getting into this. Anyone on /p doing it?
Surely I can pick up some cheap film camera with a zoom in the 400-600mm range.
Any recommendations?

I cant even find any videos on youtube, thats how rare it seems birding on film cameras is.

Also I am fine with fully manual focus, I am backing my skills.

I want everybody in the birding thread to have to admit I am the greatest.
>>
>>4315182
I will be using my 1090mm 4x5 lens for birding in the near future. Game on, bitch.
>>
>>4315184

please do
>>
>>4315186
Okay! It is only going to be black and white, and I may have trouble because my shutter only goes to 1/60, lol. I will figure it out.

1090mm is only 287mm equivalent, but you can obviously crop the hell out of a 4x5 negative and retain good IQ.
>>
>>4315187
You can’t though
>>
>>4315187
LF is softer cropped because the lens is optimized for LF field of view. I would not be surprised if $30 potato masher from 50s on 135 frame would be sharper than cropped LF on best same focal length LF lens ever made.

I had a question but there was no general so now this is the general.

My question: Are there any digishits out there with prime lenses that ARENT the original GR Digital? It has meme tax.

The big shot doesn’t use any of the current impossible (or is it just Polaroid now?) films, but the point is well taken.
>>
I am travelling for a year or so, I'm thinking of getting the sony nex-6 since it's lightweight and in my budget. Now for the lens, I have the same limitations, it need to be light, in my budget (100-200$), general purpose use. From what I've seen my options are pretty limited, going to 7artisans, but manual AF seems pretty shitty to use ? Otherwise a vintage lens with an adapter?
What would you recommend?
>>
>>4315099
I would say just use vintage manual lenses and learn how to read the focus scale, it actually becomes really easy to do after some practice and very effective when stopped down.

But at that point you might as well buy a dslr that uses the same mount and skip the adapter part all together, a dslr is going to have a way longer battery life, have shorter startup times and the crop bodies are usually pretty compact. The downside being that in that price range you're going to be more limited in low light
>>
>>4314783
DSLRs still focus a lot faster.
Snapping to and from focal points.

Those dedicated phase detect points that aren't copium put into the imaging sensor really do still work great.

>focus on hand
>focus on distant subject
>focus on hand
DSLRs just do it nearly instant, while mirrorless STILL takes forever to do this simple thing.
>>
>>4315259
You obviously only have experience with old bodies and shitty lenses. Also it doesn't matter how fast a DSLR is when it can't track for shit

I mostly don't care that much about tech. The cheaper the better. I use the old crap nobody wants to own anymore. I'm mentally ill enough to see beyond lifestyle inflation. If its cheap and has more value than its cost, than I like it.

I'm much the same. For example I rarely carry a phone and when I do it's an old iPhone 3gs (I do have a more modern one at home but that always stays there).

You seem like a nice enough guy. It's just that you simply cannot go around banding about claims such as those and perhaps in your culture it is not so serious to accuse someone of being mentally ill and you did not know better

You slink away in SHAME, ashamed of your actions. You should feel shame for what you have done to me. It is a shameful thing. I will release you from your shame when and only when you publicly denounce those statements and you reiterate that I am not now, nor have I ever been mentally ill.

Fine reviews fit as well .

Look at the chines APSC/ M-mount market. You have primes for literally everything. They all go down to like f1.4 and the quality mah to fine. You can even get outfocus these days.

I have an old f6 pancake that i don't use much because it's useless indoors or when it's overcast . F8 is fucking insane.

Photos you took when you were just beginning on film photography but that still hold up decently today edition

/fgt/ daily reminder (courtesy by anon): one stop per decade is (generally) bullshit
>negative film ages better than positive
>black and white better than color
>slow films better than fast
>storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years
>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited
>slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled.
>if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process

Hopeless for color film but you can make it work with black and white.

Got myself a Minolta 250mm F5.6 and it is perfectly usable, sure if you pixel peep it will look like shaite, but it in many situations it doesn't matter. That lens is also extremely compact for what it does so it is a compromise i am willing to live with.

They're aight I guess, I have an Olympus 500mm f8 that I acquired for a reasonable price.

Only gripe is that it's very finicky to focus even with the long throw focusing ring, we're talking about .5 millimeters margin of error. My copy has pretty bad balsam separation but there's some good sharpness especially for a catadioptric.

ITT: Post a picture, tell a story about it.

This was taken in Busan, South Korea. It's hard to see, but it was drizzling a bit at the time, and a few minutes later, it was pouring rain. I didn't bring an umbrella, and I was completely lost. I stopped under an awning outside of a restaurant to use my phone, and a Korean guy (maybe in his 40s) who happened to be driving by at the time stopped his car, got out, handed me an umbrella, got back in his car, and drove off, all without saying a single word. I tried to politely refuse (I actually like the rain), but he wouldn't take his umbrella back.

Now ex gf and I on a ride.
Feelsbadman, fucked it up being angry and depressed and mean after my mom died. Put a lot of pressure on her and pushed her away a lot.

She wasn't perfect either, but I try not to be too focused or mad about her failings, no point in holding onto bitterness
