If you want to know how metaphysics schizo experiences the world, smoke a really fat joint sprinkled with extra kief right after waking up. The whole thing. Do this every day until you think you aren’t getting high. You are now experiencing the world like someone with an IQ that is 40 points lower than your own.

took the IR filter out of my a-200 this morning.
I might have fucked up something internally because it is not recognising my lens at all, which means I can't switch it to manual focus and I have to force the gears to turn and I'm stuck at f22.
The camera also doesn't have live view and the viewfinder isn't showing me anything even in the ballpark of my focus point.
But, it takes photographs and I didn't brick it so I'm happy.

Think I'm going to try to find a vintage lens so I can just zone focus, and I'll get IR filters after that.
Also noticed the photographs were much softer than they should be, and my speculation is that it's all the UV light being scattered around.

if you feel like pulling it apart, I'd hazard a guess that you may have left a data/ribbon cable unplugged somewhere causing the communication issues
the softness could be related to the lens. some of my lenses shoot IR very well, some hotspot like fuck and shoot terribly
the focus issues could be derived from two things:
first, you need to recalibrate focus when you disassemble the camera. the screws and standoffs that hold your sensor in place are torqued from the factory, and will need to be re-torqued whenever you dick with the sensor
second, IR focuses at a different focal length than visible light. this means that wherever your visible light focus is, your IR focal plane will be behind (IIRC) your visible focal plane. You'll need to accommodate for this if you don't have live view.

>if you feel like pulling it apart, I'd hazard a guess that you may have left a data/ribbon cable unplugged somewhere causing the communication issues
Nah that can't be the case, see pic related. The ribbon cable connector I broke was secured perfectly with masking tape. No issues there.
>first, you need to recalibrate focus when you disassemble the camera
brother, I didn't even keep track of the screws.
You see that shadow at the top of the photograph? That's some bit of plastic that was attached to the sensor that fell off.
>second, IR focuses at a different focal length than visible light
now this is interesting. The focus being all fucked is what it is, but softness is another issue. Since my lens is stuck at f22 it should have SOME parts of the image be pretty sharp, even if I miss my subject.
The camera is full spectrum rn, could the longer IR wavelengths be softening it? I realised after my post that my lens probably blocks UV and it wasn't rayleigh scattering that was softening it.

why does fungus in a lens seem to only knock the price down by like 20%?

it’s a very limited market of people who can actually do something with a lens with fungus in it, it should knock it down by like 40-60%

yeah I've been not getting out or when I go out I don't go far. I've developed a sort of agoraphobia where the idea of venturing too far from home freaks me out. I definitely need to take commit and a trip somewhere and see some new stuff. I also wish I had more hobbies. I want to do something more with photography when I'm not out shooting. Lens and camera repair seems fun, but I don't know that I have the space or money for it. Does anyone else have any photography-adjacent hobbies?
>>
>>4318469

It gets old after a while. Tools are cheap, I probably have under 200 into everything. I'm not always happy and I hate my job which I am leaving soon. Travel is nice but not in something 73 feet long where people treat you like second class citizens.

I have to drive on roads where people hate me, to go to shippers that don't want to deal with me even though I'm probably the only guy who speaks English, to deliver products to ungrateful bastards who think I'm stupid, then when I'm empty I have to drive an hour out of town to park because NoT iN MaH BaCkYaRd HoSS. Trucking used to be fun but now it sucks and everything is regulated vigorously but my pay which is the same as it was in 2017.

You're home every day and sleep in a bed that doesn't vibrate, people are happy to see you and you have a pot to piss in every night, you have easy access to healthy food and a regular schedule, I'm lucky if I have a porta-shitter, count your blessings.

>>4318490

Not quite, I'm going local and hazmat end of the year, not worth owning equipment in Biden's economy. Rates are in the toilet and local guys who are home every night make more than me now. I'm only doing well because my rig is paid off.

My car is cool though.

Photos you took when you were just beginning on film photography but that still hold up decently today edition

/fgt/ daily reminder (courtesy by anon): one stop per decade is (generally) bullshit
>negative film ages better than positive
>black and white better than color
>slow films better than fast
>storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years
>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited
>slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled.
>if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process

I use my T3 when I'm out getting wasted with friends. The lens is really excellent, built in flash, and it fits in my pocket.

If someone else wants to take pictures I don't have to sit them down for an 18 minute tutorial on how to properly use the camera as well.

Hi guys, I'm here to ask you about what camera I should buy if I want to begin in this world.

Of course, I've been watching videos about cheap cameras and stuff like that. The matter here is that when you are getting into something, there is always amateur stuff that, once you are more into it, you realize it was not as good as it could be. Like in the guitar world, all the videos advise you to get the same 3 guitars, and once I've learned, I wouldn't recommend those guitars to somebody who's new to that. Same happens with PCs.

Now that I've explained my thoughts, I would love to hear from you about what camera I should get. My budget is about < $650. I'm not from the first world, so stuff like this is even more expensive here, keep that in mind plz. Also, I want it just for photography, didn't really like video, so...

Camera doesn't have interchangeable lenses so it's just the one attached to the cam. It's a great lens, extremely sharp for a zoom lens. It's a 24-70mm zoom lens. Has a maximum aperture of F2, so you can get a tiny bit of bokeh with the right distance to the subject. When fully zoomed it stops down to f2.8 which is honestly pretty good for a point and shoot.

What three lenses would you buy first for your preferred platform? For me and Nikon’s Zs…

>24-120/4 S
Do everything lens, landscapes.
>MC 105/2.8 S
Macro and portraits.
> 180-600/5.6-6.3 VR
Affordable good telephoto for nature.

I don’t think you could spend under $4k and get three better lenses.

This lens sucks shit. Buy the 28 or 26, never this POS. And still buy new and keep a finger on the return button. Copy variation on the 28 is also shit. It’s a bottom of the barrel lens with a weak nonsealed mount intended for the z5.
>>
>>4318496
It's a $225 first party lens (on sale now). They cut corners with the extremely plastic build but it's small, fast-ish, light, and fits the bill for a "fun" lens. It tends toward the pancake side of optical quality but the samples look fine. At least one discussion of a guy who used it in the rain with no issues. But I can definitely see it selling for less than $100 used in a couple years.

Thinking of buying my first camera. Only used my phone but I watch a lot of photography youtube.
Is medium format worth it? Looking to spend 10-15k to start with, unsure if I should get a Hasselblad with one lens and really focus on mastering it, or get a full frame leica and a bunch of lenses and enjoy the exploration.
I know that's a lot of money to begin with, but I'm going on a cruise around Europe this summer and I don't want to waste my time with substandard photos. I live alone and I'm travelling alone so I want to put a lot of effort and money into this so I feel invested instead of thinking about tfwngf

I live in Qatar and there's a lot of dust, so weatherproofing is a concern especially if I'm swapping out lenses a lot like with the leica option.

I saw a good deal on a Pentax 645d on facebook but I decided to sleep on it and this morning I realized that digital medium format is kind of pointless because of the bayer filter. You're losing so much information and subjecting the image to so much processing via demosiacing that it's kind of pointless. You should either just shoot actual medium format film or save yourself a massive amount of money and shoot a modern full frame or Foveon camera.

Am I wrong?

because there is already barely a use case for digital medium format. True medium format would be way too expensive

I ended up grabbing a 645(non-n). Are f/2.8 lenses necessary since I'll be manually focusing or are the f/4.5 zooms usable with manual focus?

Most people’s instant film pictures suck. I look through Instagram and it’s so boring. Why do people spend so much money on the film just to take a picture of their boring friend and post on Instagram with “Photographer” written in their bio? It’s either a picture of their boring friend or like some random building.

Are there any good instant film pictures you guys would like to share?

>Most people’s instant film pictures suck.
the fact that more and more people are getting into film in 2024 will never make me mad
you sound like a Ham radio boomer
>NOOOO YOU NEED TO GET YOUR AMATEUR EXTRA LICENSE AND SPEND $4500 ON A RIG AND AERIAL SO THAT YOU CAN SPEND ALL OF YOUR TIME CONTESTING, I'LL REPORT YOU TO THE FCC IF I THINK YOU'RE ON MY FREQ USING A BAOFENG WHICH IS ILLEGAL BECAUSE OF SOME RETARDED OBSCURE FCC RULE ME AND MY BOOMER FRIENDS WILL TRIANGULATE YOU IF YOU DONT FOLLOW PROTOCOLLLLLLL
zoomers getting into P&S film cameras, CCD digitals, and doing street photog is a godsend, it'll prevent the hobby from dying the same slow boomer death that ham radio is currently dying
>>
>>4318163
What is so fun about ham radio anyway, it's just r9k for old men

Have any of you tried the new black and white emulsion Polaroid recently announced? Looks much improved.
>>
>>4318324
Fundamentally I have a dislike for nuPolaroid after it’s been proven multiple times that “we can’t fit 10 shots in a cartridge we can’t figure it out so deal with less for higher prices please” was proven to be bullshit, and they’re just going to only keep putting 8 shots in a cartridge because the hipster brigades love to get assraped for the vibe and just keep paying for it regardless. Yeah, great that they kept it alive, but the shekelberg bullshit is icky.

I have a Sun 660, but it's just as expensive to shoot as medium format so I don't use it at all.
