What do the thermal settings in the BIOS do? It can be balanced or max performance, but nothing seems to change in the OS. I still have to set the platform profile to avoid throttling.

I've been building PCs since I was like 12. Here's the process today:>assemble PC>wait 10mins for DDR5 to train (zero feedback, no POST, nothing)>something goes wrong (no idea why, because zero feedback)>want to reset CMOS to troubleshoot>have to remove fuck-huge GPU that covers 4 PCI slots just to remove the CMOS battery>there's still no CMOS reset button on 99% of motherboards ofc>want to update BIOS (just in case)>hope you have a spare CPU (I do) or your motherboard is premium and supports BIOS flashing without a CPU (of course there will be no feedback, just a black screen)Hardware used to be engineered properly, but now it seems like everyone is mimicking software "engineers" and designing things shoddily. This is why everyone is moving to Mac, btw. If it performs even half as well without these issues, who in their right mind would bother with PCs? >t. just swapped out my 7950x for a 7800x3d and despite the BIOS being updated, the memory won't train unless I insert 1 DIMM at a time, train, reboot, and insert another ad nauseum. Oh, and I forgot. nvidia screwed up PCIE power connector design, so you'll also burn your house down.

What's the use case for GNOME? I tried it out earlier and it was just a waste of time.Since GNOME is Red Hat's baby and as such receives funding directly from IBM I expected it to be the nec plus ultra of desktop environments on Linux but honestly I think it might be the worst. It's a buggy piece of shit. After installing task-gnome-desktop here are all the bugs I encountered within less than an hour of use:>Open in Terminal... does nothing>images are randomly opened in Shotwell or the image viewer>file properties randomly open dolphin or gnome's file property dialog>switching the theme from breeze to Adwaita crashed Gnome>logging out made the colors on my monitor all funky, which was only fixed by turning the monitor off and on again (I have NEVER seen another desktop or even Windows do this)>nothing would launch within the first 30 seconds of the session being opened, then everything would open all at once>counter-strike was automatically added to my list of programs that open automatically when I log in>couldn't launch games on Steam. After logging back into KDE ==> worked perfectly fine, so it was definitely a GNOME issue.I'll not bring up questionable decisions either, like making me do "Authorize execution" on a shortcut even though the file itself has execution permissions. Or the ridiculous amounts of padding on everything. Is GNOME designed for the near sighted? So from what I can tell, GNOME is the biggest, most developed desktop environment of all, but at the same time it's the most prone to breaking and buggiest of them all. What sense does that make?
IBM is trying to sabotage the Linux desktop
>>100537593>>Open in Terminal... does nothing>>nothing would launch within the first 30 seconds of the session being opened, then everything would open all at onceWere you running GNOME on Xorg? I had the exact same problems on a fresh Ubuntu install and it turned out to be only on Xorg.
>>100537593>ridiculous amounts of padding on everything. That, and the abysmal font rendering, has been enough to keep me away from desktop Linux for good

THE TIME HAS COME /g/ for us to decide which is the masterrace phone application for groceriesCurrently I use "Grocery List with synch": https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grocery-list-with-sync/id491297400 Pretty functional and works well - click once to cross something out, click again to flag you need to buy it. But it has a few problems:>Has a tag color system coupled with a ":" separator that is not very logical, gets in the way. It tries to get you to register items in a certain way and you have to hit backspace to ignore and do your own way. Not an issue but needlessly confusing>Doesn't let you add entries with space, you have to use hyphen. Sometimes, it let's you. Again, needlessly confusing>The free version only lets you have 3 separate lists>Paid version is pretty expensiveI almost paid for it once despite all that. I didn't because it literally wiped all my entries once when they updated to a new version or something, so that made me want to find an alternative instead. What do you recommend anon?

If all you wanted to do was create then you obviously would pick the best tool for the job (be it hiring someone, doing it yourself if you have the means, AI, etc.)Again, same example, most people who learn to play existing songs are not looking to create, they are looking to experience the feeling of playing the song.
