The momentum loss is because of pacing. The first aspect of this is the filler arc injected in the worst place possible. Gatou's arc was already hijacked by the monster association content, so why not throw a martial arts tournament in as well! Second is the redraws leaving you unaware if you actually read the chapter. Completely redoing a single chapter is one thing, releasing ten chapters in a row then redoing the entire arc so you are essentially rereading the same thing but a filler character is drawn differently or a jobber doesnt die means the next three months arent worth following the series just to get back to where you were.
Third is the reason for problems one and two, that the webcomic barely ahead of the manga. If ONE spent half a year working on the webcomic at the pace of Mob Psycho 100 was for his serialization Murata could stretch that for 2 years of over designing and padding.

Yes. In the webcomic the monsters gain an upper hand for a while and the S class heroes barely scrape together a victory despite awful teamwork, before Garou pops up and shits all over them anyway. The monsters even comment that the S class should've assembled more of their roster before assaulting the base. And the consequence of the raid and the beatdown vs Garou causes a bunch of retirements and gives some of the heroes brain problems. The S class never worked well together and the raid finally broke whatever fake unity they had been able to maintain before. And the neo heroes moves in to capitalise on the decline of the HA.

In the manga the shift to the next arc doesn't work because what I just described doesn't happen.

The early chapters of OPM were god tier. It's very easy to identify with Saitama who is depressed and unrecognized while being overpowered. The kind of person to read OPM to begin with feels like that due to all the wins in computer gaming that don't translate to reality.

It's one of the reasons why ONE's later messaging on the virtues of being a normie feel so infuriating. OPM has some of it, but Mob is the worst.
