Volume 17The Dissociation/Surprise arc continues. One weekend, when Kyon reaches the usual SOS Brigade rendezvous spot, he is met not by his fellow club members, but instead by Sasaki, an old friend from middle school. Haruhi isn't thrilled to find Kyon already waiting when she arrives (Who's going to buy drinks?!) and is even less thrilled by his attractive female friend! Previous thread (volume 16): >>273423812Only four more days until the new novel is released!
The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya III
The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya IV
The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya V

That's it for today. In tomorrow's volume, the Surprise arc continues.
>>273453445171 fucking images damn anon
So is the manga past the point where the anime stopped? Kinda thinking about reading it if season 3 never ever happens.
>>273455949>>273455998>>273456017Yasumi!
>>273457151Arigato, OP.
>>273457151Thank you, OP.
>reading manga adaptation instead of novelWhy would anyone do this
>>273463363I don't, but not just in questions of adaptation. I don't really like manga (and comic books, for that matter), I prefer either motion pictures or mostly text (and video games too). For most anime, that means I'll just stick to the animated adaptation.
>>273456707>>273456724Ive been wondering for a bit now, but is this scene basically meant to be Tanigawa saying how the reason Nagato is so weird isnt because she is an alien AI, as she is weird, one might even say disabled, even by alien AI standards, and thus how she basically has the alien AI version of autism?Which is essentially him saying to the audience that the reason why Nagato acts “with a touch of autism” isnt because she isnt human, but because she effectively does actually have autism?Because I cant see how this scene could possibly mean anything other than that.
>>273463363I mean if the manga had stayed 100% faithful to adapting the dialogue from the LNs, I would actually prefer it since the visual medium is a HUGE benefit when it comes to storytelling.Unfortunately this manga adaptation doesnt do that, and Ive been frustrated multiple times by the omissions it made. Its still fun to read, in particular for the parts which werent adapted by the anime.
This story seems interesting, but man, I still haven't watched the Disappearance movie. I just felt so uncomfortable seeing Kyon freak out about nobody remembering Haruhi
>>273463502>the visual medium is a HUGE benefit when it comes to storytellingNot exactly anon. Incompetent manga (like this one, to an extent) can be more or less of a downgrade over your imagination and the text. Some things work better in text alone, others work better with the visual medium...Hell, even competent manga can create issues. The Omori manga is probably superior to the game in terms of visuals and yet I'd gladly take the game because fancier visuals don't vibe well with the plot.>>273463363There are a few nice filler chapters. Other than that, no reason not to read the nice LNs.>>273463958Watch it with /a/ on December 18th
>>273459336>>273455949>>273455998>>273456017Fuck, I love Yasumi. Very underrated.>>273459336You should read the novels anon. Though I'm starting to feel S3 is a possibility nowadays.
Kyoto Animation has announced they won't do Haruhi anime in 2025. And would it be worthy without them?
>>273463449I don't exactly remember how that scene was written in the LN, but it would be in line with what Kyon said at the end of Disappearance (that Nagato was made differently from Asakura, and probably on purpose)It'd also fit with what Nagato stands for I think. She has trouble communicating and bottles everything up. She learns and grows. And she's fine the way she is, her "disability" or whatever you want to call it is part of her and that's how she expresses herself. Her final shot in Disappearance (when she puts up the book to hide her face at the library) really shows her subtle ways of expressing herself.
>>273464066>would it be worthy without them?Yes and no. I think the story and writing are great, poor execution might not completely destroy it. On the other hand, it'd be really hard to settle for a mediocre S3 that doesn't highlight the work's strengths. Especially considering that I think the stories that come after Disappearance are stronger than the ones before.
>>273464034>S3 is a possibilityElaborate. Don't get my hopes up for nothing, anon.
>>273464872I think that anon is talking about the new volume + the crowdfunding for a music video.
>>273464872I don't want to make you hope too much anon, as another anon said KyoAni is clearly not doing any of that in 2025... but on the other hand we have>second new novel in a few weeks>the musical video project reaching 30 million yens pretty fast https://camp-fire.jp/projects/784185/view / https://kakuyomu.jp/special/entry/haruhi_gekijyoThe series is doing... slightly better than it did a few years ago. Maybe not as good as when Intuition came out (because that was a pretty big deal) but still more alive than it has been since the hiatus.Still, I'll just focus on what I have for sure: new LN. It's decent.
I thought this series ended a long time ago. How is it still going when new volumes are released so infrequently? Did the author just get bored of writing or something?
>>273465043I've heard a theory saying that the success of the anime made him get cold feet.
>>273465043We got the 11th LN in two parts back in like 2010 or 2011 but then he had a writer's block for 10 fucking years.
If Spice and Wolf can get another anime, then I don't see why Haruhi can't.
>>273465183I don't think it can't: I'm just nervous at WHAT we'd be getting. I've seen too many of my favorites butchered by anime to be hopeful by default.
>>273456597>>273456618Yuki? fucking cute.
>>273453880I remember having a hard time reading this LN volume, and I think this manga helped me understand why. Kyon is losing his cool around these guys for no reason, even though Kuyoh seems like an awkward girl who's just trying to be nice. He even badmouths her right to Sasaki's face.
>>273466139Kyon is kinda hostile to Sasaki when she comes back at first iirc. Understandably so, she comes off as weird before you know her deal
>>273455286Cool chapter cover
>SETTING: An damp, abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Nishinomiya. Kyouko Tachibana sits on an old crooked chair, eager awaiting someone's arrival. A door creaks open.Kyouko: Ah there he is. Welcome to my lair. Care for a glass of sake?>The intruder, a man with dirty blonde hair, does not reply.Kyouko: So, I heard "God" and her odd little friends have formed some kind of brigade. What do you think about that, Fujiwara-san?>The man, seemingly irritated for some unknown reason, speaks up.Fujiwara: You better not be wasting my time.Kyouko: Of course, I wouldn't dare waste a time-traveller's time. On the contrary, I was just celebrating your latest failed attempt to capture that girl. Why do you keep trying to kidnap her anyway?Fujiwara: None of your business.Kyouko: You owe me for saving your life. How would "God" react if she found out you were going to hurt one of her brigade members?>The man fidgets around, unnerved by Kyouko's question.Fujiwara: I wasn't going to hurt her. Once my job here is done I leave, you can do whatever you want with the hairband chick, I don't care.Kyouko: You don't understand why I called you here, do you? Our objectives are aligned, so it is not wise for us to waste time fighting each other. We need to level the playing field, Fujiwara-san.>Fujiwara stares blankly at Kyouko, before putting on a thin smile.Kyouko: To put it plainly, shouldn't we, have a Brigade of our own?
