Author of that novel has been writing on Kakuyomu, he's received plenty of feedback, but the issue with works that are boosted from the corporate side and immediately adapted into manga and anime because they have certain connections and with lightning speed without even receiving a bit of criticism usually end up overestimating how much praise they would receive.

For me, it's the tonal whiplash. When you're watching some pedobait wish fulfillment anime, it usually owns it with a wink and a nudge, so it's easy to laugh along and enjoy within its own scope. MT tries very, very hard to be a serious big-boy fantasy while simultaneously being pedobait wish fulfillment. It acknowledges Rudy wasn't a good person early on, and then proceeds to reform his character without actually ever addressing the things that made him a bad person in the first place. It makes excuses for his shitty behavior even as he's reforming himself, and then rewards that bad behavior, pushing the guilt onto someone else. The upcoming arc will dangle all the bad shit that COULD happen, but the end result is the same, and there is no real character reckoning for Rudeus down the line, since they're breaking into metaphysical politics now. I'll keep watching because there's still fun to be had, and it's well animated and the world is well realized, but I'm not going to try and justify Rudy's character.

Not to say YuushaKei is that much more worthy. It's also pulpy shit, just a different brand of pulpy shit. They're too busy killing monsters and uncovering conspiracies to bother with themes of family and legacy. The MC is too busy doing violence and seeking revenge to care about romance. if Paul never sent Rudy to Eris, and Rudy was still with the Greyrat family on the positive side, having Rudy with the family could have increased their chances of survival in the immediate aftermath. He might have been able to protect Zenith and Norn and if they were holding hands at the moment of teleportation then who knows Zenith might not have teleported to the labyrinth but at least assuming that’s the case he would at least help Paul respond more effectively to the chaos. Emotionally, it also could have helped Paul a lot. One of the biggest reasons Paul completely broke down later was guilt and uncertainty about his family. That said, the negatives are much more serious. Teleportation Incident was extremely lethal if Rudy had been sent somewhere hostile without Ruijerd’s protection he could have easily died. Rudy’s survival depended heavily on meeting Ruijerd.

Another important point is Eris herself. She survives largely because Rudy is there to guide and protect her early on. Without Rudy being sent away, Eris might have ended up alone after the incident, which could have easily led to her death. In that sense, Paul’s decision didn’t just save Rudy, it indirectly saved Eris as well so I think it was a good thing. Paul really was a good dad dammit…..
