You know, I'm not sure they portrayed demons as completely incapable of peace. I'm posting the FULL scene here: https://files.catbox.moe/bgrhzu.mp4 since it's not on YouTube (it's there but in snippets), and I think the village could have handled this better. For one, the family whose daughter she ate (desu I can't blame them for this, the demon did EAT their fucking daughter) clearly held too much resentment over the demon girl for what she'd done. She says "Every day I felt your desire to kill me.", and I don't believe that was a lie. How do you integrate into a society when that is how they perceive you?I think the demon girl was ignorant, not evil. She ate the daughter, but that was an animal acting on its survival instinct. It'd be like getting mad at a wolf, it's an animal, dude. But from then on, as an intelligent creature capable of higher thought and speech, she wasn't shown to be deceitful until her life was in danger. She seemed to be getting along with the daughter of the village chief, they were playing together, it even looked like she was alone with the daughter multiple times and not once killed her. The only reason the demon girl killed the village chief was because of the family whose daughter she ate. She believed she had to make amends for her own safety, since she felt their desire to kill her every day. In her ignorant mind, the way to do this was to give the family a new daughter. The village chief's daughter was the closest possible candidate, but already had a parent... thus, she believed she had to kill the chief in order to give the daughter to the family.
She didn't understand a few things due to being a solitary creature not raised in a family structure. She didn't understand that you can't just replace a person in your life, it doesn't work like that. It's not the same daughter, and never will be. Adversely, she now has to make up for the daughter's loss of a father, which is another thing that can't be replaced. The biggest thing she didn't understand, and I would say this IS justification for killing all demons, is that murder is wrong. She didn't kill the chief for no reason, she killed him because she believed it was necessary for her survival, thinking it would make the family forgive her for the daughter she ate. If she believed she was safe, she wouldn't have done that, and lived peacefully alongside the humans. If you can teach them EITHER A) Murder is wrong, or B) That it is in their best interest to not murder and that doing so will risk their safety (as the demon girl is ONLY deceitful and evil when her life is in danger), then I think she could have genuinely lived alongside the humans in peace. Say the same village found her before she ate the daughter, I genuinely think, based on their portrayal of the demon girl, she would have lived with them in peace, perhaps long enough for her to get old enough to understand B, and maybe even A.
This scene was absolute KINO

>>285417574bravo
>>285417351>they would be peaceful if you knew you would kill them as soon as they stepped out of lineThat's not peaceful. Why would anyone want that?
>>285418329this is true of humanity as well, people generally for the longest time killed you if you killed people
>>285418329Threat of punishment should you commit violence and murder is pretty much the foundation of law in all society
>>285417574
>>285418386>>285418469Are you retarded? Most people would not kill for a small advantage even if they though they could get away with it. Threats of violence aren't the only thing holding human societies together and preventing us killing one another.
>>285418494>most peopleYou said it yourself.
>>285418505Try expressing a complete thought, if you have one.
>>285417345Anything that happened in that village was 100% Frieren responsibility.
>>285417574Fuck MAL is right, only one episode of frieren season 2 is better than every other anime in existence.
>>285418505You said "most people would not", implying that there are some, and there are, that would kill if they would get away with it. And a lot of these people are good members of society that contribute, the dark deeds they'd commit held back by the lawful systems our societies uphold. If the demon girl believed she would have been harmed should she kill the chief, she wouldn't have done so. She did it believing it would cease the family's desire to kill her. She was just short-sighted in that she didn't realize killing the chief would cause people to want her dead.>>285418570jesus christ imagine the fucking smelle
>>285417345>>285417351I feel like the scene shows exactly why demons are incapable of peace.Even one who actually wants to integrate is still a danger.
>>285418596You can't even click properly you fucking retard.Evil people existing doesn't make demons any better. I can't imagine how you'd come to such a conclusion.>a lot of these people are good members of societyThey really aren't. A tiny minority are successful and productive, but that's not the same thing."I thought I would get away with it" is not considered an acceptable excuse anywhere, so I don't see how that helps your case.
>>285418602I agree with the second line, yes, they are indeed still a danger. More so than even a psychopath as they clearly are stronger than a baseline human is. But I feel like the scene didn't portray it well enough. Demons aren't mindless, they're capable of higher thought, and the demon girl was very, VERY short-sighted in her thought that she could kill the chief to use her daughter as a gift to make amends. Really, if she were just older or more intelligent she would probably continue to maintain the peace she'd maintained in the days leading up to that killing, knowing that if she killed the chief, that would jeopardize her safety (which seemed to be her highest priority). Her making a foolish mistake felt like a highway to showing why they're irredeemable, if they REALLY wanted to nail it in; They should have showed us that even in the best case scenario, it's still impossible.
>>285418666I'm not replying to you if you're just going to keep calling me a retard and getting angry at me. It's just a discussion about an anime. Chill out.
>>285418677>If she was smarter she'd have kept up her deception longer.I don't see how that's supposed to make it any better. >>285418684If you can't stand being called a retard either stop saying stupid shit or get the fuck off 4chan.
>>285418716I can stand it. I'm just not going to engage with you on the matter any more, you aren't civil.
