Is it worth it to pursue college classes in Japanese and/or philosophy to become a manga translator? I already really like Japanese culture in general and don't see any real evidence that the overall manga market is shrinking plus it's a job that I'd absolutely love the fuck out of doingAlso picture is of me with my cat
fuck off faggot, and have some Boku no Pico for the roadbut also if you do go for a Japanese Major then just know you won't end up fluent, probably closer to N4/N3 with solid understanding of culture, history, religion, modern pop culture, maybe a little bit of modern politics, and a solid baseline understanding of the language (again, conversationally competent, but nowhere near fluent). If you're just in to learn the language then you'll have to do way more than 4 years of studying, but regular weekly classes will motivate you to continue and give you a strong understanding of the totality of Japan. If you're in it to be a translator then the less japanese you can speak, the better. Official translation is a shit show, you're probably overqualified as you are right now to work as a translator at any western studio.
