Haruka, my beloved.

>>286004195Ruby and Sapphire came out 24 years ago. That's not how it's worked for nearly the quarter of a century. And no, you do not. We in the Pokespe threads have translated ALL names to English and will continue to do so. Because that's basic fucking sanity.

>>286004304You are not Japanese, and this is not 2ch.
>>286004126I have 1,025 sticky notes, each containing the Japanese name of each Pokemon, whenever I am playing a Pokemon so that I can rapidly apply them to the screen whenever a Pokemon's name pops up in the text box. And no I will NOT learn Japanese.

>>286003231original Sugimori implication was it was tied up under her bandana. anime didn't want to risk giving her a 'different' hairstyle by showing it loose without the bandana, so they gave her a fucked up reverse mullet thing so her hair looks the same with or without a hat.
>>286002829I can't not hear May whenever I see something else with her in it. I watched Ikkitousen recently and she voices one of the main characters in it, so you basically get to hear May talk about lesbianism and how good it feels when someone plays with her boobs. it's surreal
>>285999144>Haruka>spring mosquitoPass.
Misty was already a generational sexual awakening for most men, but May will always have my dick. I used to imagine her as my gf as young as preschool. Those terufuu images have legions of my sons and daughters spent to them, thank you May thank you Haruka for being so sexy and the best Poke Girl (and cutest sprite)
>>286004789It's spring aroma, actually.
>>286004645It's funny that they didn't care about doing this with Dawn.
>>286004623And even if they do admit they watched dubs they still desperately try to claim "B-but our dub voice actors are actually good! Practically as good as the original Japanese ones if not better! Only the American dubbers were shit I hate Americans so much!".

>>285999144I agree, but Pokemon is like Dragon Ball where the western fandom for it has crippling dubfag syndrome where childhood nostalgia has gaslit them into believing the western versions of everything are superior.
>>285999144Why did they nerf her breasts in Diamond and Pearl?
>>286003466The birds are also just cool. The movie treats them as physical gods whose mere presence affects their environment, especially the weather.Although Pokemon as an anime franchise is kind of schizophrenic on the Legendaries. Sometimes they're effectively gods that can alter the cosmos and the nature of things, sometimes they're just stronger-than-normal Pokemon that come out of Pokeballs and get KO'd like the rest of the species out there.
>>286006174Haruka has nothing to do with spring, that's just a fuckup the English translators made that carried over to the other translations because they were all translated from English at the time. >>286004224Pokespe and its dubglish is so fucking obnoxious to read.

>>286007085She doesn't, she wears spats.
>>286007156This is also something to keep in mind re: dub names, at least a decent amount of them are governed by the way the games translate names. Like, "Misty" is "Misty" because that's what they chose for her way back in Red/Blue/Yellow. For the most part, if you're annoyed at an English name in Pokemon, take it up with GameFreak, not the producers on the anime.
>>286007156>>286007197I've never not known an Akane who didn't have massive milkers

>>286006675I miss when kodomo shows made their girls busty. Many kids became men thanks to girls like these. They deserve some eye candy too.
>>286007548Yes, spats are meant to be skintight and be worn without underwear. Underwear would just chafe.

>>286019835Isn't it curious how literally every other anime with altered dub names has subfags on /a/ default to the original names, but with Pokemon you get you raging autists that refuse to let go of your shitty dub even when you're in the middle of watching subs and literally hearing the original names spoken.>>286019124Why don't YOU go ask them that and gain a bit of perspective instead of holing up in Pokefag threads and acting like your faggotry is some sort of /a/ standard?
>>286020064>actually using "weeb" as an insult on /a/You retards are something else.
>>286019948>you can't translate a namegigaretard all Japanese names have translated meanings, because how kanji and hiragana works having multiple pronunciations leads to multiple meanings. >>286020149>Guy's I fit in on /a/ right? I'm a true wapanese!Comical.
>>286020150>all Japanese names have translated meaningYeah but you don't call them that in an official translation. And Pokemon doesn't even do that. They just name them whatever.
>>286020064it's unfortunate, really>>286020116why would *i* ask them that? you brought it up, you do your own damn homeworkand it's funny you bring up "standards" when the two pokemon communities on /a/ hold opposite viewpoints on thismaybe YOU should get some fuckin perspective
>>286020253Also Pokemon is written in kana.
>>286020253>And Pokemon doesn't even do that. They just name them whatever.Just because you're too stupid to know the meaning of the Japanese names in Pokemon doesn't mean they don't have them.
>>286020116The difference here is that Pokemon games come out long before the anime adapts that part, so people have plenty of time to get used to the English names for new Pokemon and game-original characters. The only Pokemon that was anime-original for a long time was normal form Terapagos, and that was after Terapagos was already revealed via magazines.
>>286020371Bulbasaur somehow reflects to its Japanese name. Or Muk which is just nonsense.
>>286006932Haruka means "spring wind", moron.

You'd know that if you actually used /a/ for anything other than Pokemon threads. This is why your reference here >>286013829 is "other boards on 4chan" and not "other threads on /a/".
>>286020491It doesn't, but I bet you'll just cite some shitty wiki and triple down on that.
>>286020521>provides zero evidence to the contrary
>>286020542I didn't see any evidence for >>286020491 either.
>>286020492no other franchise on /a/ is secondary to a series of video games that release before themyou would know this if you weren't a clueless retard
You'd think fags that cared more about video games than anime would stick to /v/ rather than /a/
>>286020542In the original gameboy they could only use hiragana and katakana which in out of context don't form Japanese words. That was because of the limitations of the console or laziness and it carried on to the modern games. It's was also easier to read for children because they can't read kanji. The official name of Haruka is just ハルカ which doesn't mean shit.
>>286020479Muk is just an orthographic variant of Muck, you can use your brain to figure out the rest.Of all 1000 pokemon, why would you do your own argument a disservice and choose Muk?

>>286020757Trying way too hard.Maybe tell TPC to stop adapting the games if you don't want video game nonsense here.
>>286020678Are you actually arguing that adhering to any and all changes done to a localization makes you NOT a secondary? The official translations of the Jojo and Conan manga also use localized names, do you call people that refer to characters by their Japanese names "anime secondaries" too?
>>286020764Her name means "distant", it's very obvious if you look at Yuuki's name which similarly comes from 悠. The player characters in the games all have names that carry the same meaning. There's probably some interview from 2003 or something that confirms it, but it's pretty obvious just from looking at the names, especially in hindsight knowing all later games had similar related names.
>>286020663I'm an ESL so I didn't know the word muck. But why did they chose it? Just call them Betbeter and Betbeton.
>>286020801You lack reading comprehension.I don't give a shit about secondaries, or being a secondary or talking about anime with someone who likes videogames. The entire notion of "secondary-ness" is dumb as hell on an anonymous anime board.
>>286020764>GF clearly told the translators what the name meant>some autist 20 years later says "nuh uh" because the game for 7 year olds didn't include Katakanaby your logic, 'zenigame' has no translation because they didn't use the kanji for zeni and game in its name.
>>286020983>GF clearly told the translators what the name meantThey didn't at the time. There's lots of fuckups in early Pokemon translations because the translators were just guessing at meanings a lot of time.
>>286020928the games aren't for you, Mexican. getting real sick of these arguments always boiling down to "why didn't these AMERICAN translators try to accommodate my NONAMERICAN self?" yet another example of ESLs expecting America to do everything for them, and thinking American media shouldn't cater to American customers.
>>286021042that was only applicable because it was localised before TPCi existed. TPCi took over all localisation in 2000, before RSE were released.regardless, Haruka is a valid and common name in Japanese with an easily-found meaning. Only a retard or a bad-faith faggot would argue she uniquely has a name with no underlying meaning. remember, you still have not provided a shred of evidence that her name has no meaning.
>>286020928Well, to my english ears both those sound really dumb, and don't convey anything about the pokemon (which admittedly isn't necessarily a bad thing).Betbeton seems to translate to sticky/slimy (which also aren't pleasing sounding names). You're ESL, but in english nounizing a verb or adjective tends to sound really stupid, which is probably why grimy got converted to a technically non-word Grimer. It's also why Thunders sounds stupid for Jolteon as well.
>>286020833The official translations of Jojo use localized names because Araki likes to use licensed properties to name his characters, and so that has to be adjusted. People clearly understand that Funny Valentine's Stand is called "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" and not "Filthy Acts at a Reasonable Price". But the changes have to be made to avoid litigation. People are inevitably going to compare an adaptation to the source material. The Elden Ring manga threads here discuss the game and its story, even though the manga is a completely silly gag manga that just does whatever. And the same is true for Pokemon. No, I'm not going to refer to anime-original characters by their dub names. Sango is "Sango", not "Coral". There was a joke with Sango and Onyx eating sandwiches and rice balls because they took the flimsy codenames "Sandwich" and "Onigiri". That joke doesn't make sense with their names translated. But I WILL refer to the names of characters and moves that appeared first in the games by their names in the games, because that's the source material. And before you ask "why didn't you play the game in Japanese", I played it with English text, just like how I use English subtitles when watching anime. As I would expect anyone to.
>>286020983I can concede that they meant "spring" but that still doesn't excuse the American translators naming her May. Because she's Hikari. That's just her name okay.
>>286021138>youNo, I'm >>286020919I'm just pointing out that the meaning of her name has nothing to do with the name the localizers picked because the localizers did, in fact, just fuck up and guess wrong.
>>286017018>>286017195My name's Victreebel btw Not actually a victreebel
>>286021246They didn't mean spring either, they meant distant.
>>286021246>Because she's Hikari.I dunno man, my May looks kinda odd.
>>286021255>in factin your uninformed opinion*you're not gonna confidence trick me, faggot. back up your argument or sit&spin. >>286021295Haruka includes the kanji for both. it's multilayered. >>286021246not according to the Pokemon Company, who named her.
>>286021204>That joke doesn't make sense with their names translated.News flash, the anime has jokes that take game characters' names into account as well.
>>286021398>back up your argumentHave you dub retards unironically never realized that the gen 3 protagonists are supposedly somehow the only characters that have completely random ass names that have nothing to do with anything, while all other protagonist pairs have related ones?
>>286021402Well, sucks for them. I'm not changing the names I've used for characters for 3+ years before they appeared in the anime.>>286021488Not him, but what does "Ethan" and "Lyra" have to do with anything?
>>286021603>Not him, but what does "Ethan" and "Lyra" have to do with anything?Hibiki (響き) and Kotone (琴音).Their localized names supposedly refer to "echo" and "lyre", but like a lot of localized names, they're so poorly done it's very hard to recognize a connection unless you look at their Japanese names and try to see how they could potentially relate to the English ones.
>>286021603Dumb secondaries like you should experience the actual source material and not localized trash.
>>286021488moron. Brendan's Japanese name has a dual meaning of bravery and distance, and May's Japanese name has a dual meaning of spring wind and distance. I'm pretty sure in Japanese spring wind is also symbolic of bravery and valour.
>>286021766But I did. Unless you want me to play them in Japanese, in which case I'm not doing that, because I don't speak Japanese. That's why I use English subs. And Pokemon games don't have voice acting anyway. Are you thinking clearly?
>>286021813>Brendan's Japanese name has a dual meaning of bravery and distance, and May's Japanese name has a dual meaning of spring wind and distance. No, it does not, your faggot English wiki put that there because they try extremely hard to push the idea that the English localizers didn't make a mistake. No Japanese website has ever suggested this because it's not a connection anyone would make unless they're working backwards from the localization with the default assumption that it can't have been wrong.>spring windI remember it used to say "spring flower" for the longest time, I guess someone finally pointed out to them that "haruka" is in fact not a word for "spring flower", and they needed to find some other random word that started with "haruka" and meant something spring-related.
Pokemon is a game/anime from the 90's when localization was standard practice, and having started that way they weren't going to stop 3 games in. English fans are going to be familiar with the translated names from the game, so it makes sense to keep it that way in the anime, yes even with subtitles. This may be difficult for some of the autists in this thread to hear, but translation isn't a science, it's an art. Sometimes you have to take liberties, get creative, and maybe (gasp) have a little fun with it.
>>286004183I play the games in japanese because its good for learning to read.
>>286021865>Unless you want me to play them in Japanese, in which case I'm not doing that, because I don't speak JapaneseAnd that's why you will always be a secondary, secondary-kun.Her name is Haruka btw. And yes, it did say so in the game I played.
>>285999144Haruka's Harukas
>>286021956Then why use subs at all? The entire argument here is over the names used in subs. How many times were you dropped on the head as a kid?
>>286021923>And Pokemon games don't have voice acting anywayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCDodM9OQvw>Atashi Haruka
>>286021923So what name could they have given her in English that alludes to distance.
>>286022027>Pokemon Masters
>>286021982>Then why use subs at all?I don't. Where did I say I did? How many times were you dropped on the head as a kid?>The entire argument here is over the names used in subsNo, it was about what names you refer to characters as, you dumb secondary. How many times were you dropped on the head as a kid?
>>286022062The only modern Pokemon game worth playing.
>>286022073>Involving himself in a conversation about subs when he doesn't use subsPeak head-up-ass behavior.>How many times were you dropped on the head as a kid?>How many times were you dropped on the head as a kid?The clear brain damage explains your behavior. How sad.And "May" is better, by the way. "Haruka" isn't feminine at all.
>>286022097No gachashit is worth playing.
The new Inazuma Eleven game allows people to switch between localized names and the original names, Pokemon should really start doing the same. It would put an end to this "I must have dub names in my subs because I played a video game once" faggotry.
>>286022220Yet you're opposed to people having the choice between localized and original names in subtitles?
>>286022220>>286022283Pokemon should just switch to using the Japanese names in the translated games period and drop all the localized ones.
>>286022338That is not going to happen.
>>286022283Just stick with the dub if you're that much of a dub autist.
>>286022414So that's a yes then?

>>286022414Learn Japanese if you're that much of a Japanese autist.
>>286022535I did.
>>286022512>trying THIS hard to avoid acknowledging the possibility of the translators making a mistakeIsn't it curious how no Japanese fans make this connection between Haruka and Yuuki's names and the concept of spring, though?
>>286022733>isn't it fascinating *shit I made up on the spot*your continued refusal to cite even one shred of evidence for your claims will be taken as a concession you're full of shit and are just baiting at this point.
>>286021923There are definitely people named Haruka where it's written 春花
>>286022356They can at least do if for the human characters. The Pokemon themselves can keep their pun names
>>286022869Yes. But while 春花 is a word that means "spring flower", it's not pronounced "haruka", but "shunka".
>>286022689Then why do you care what subs and dubs do when you don't need them?
>>286022961I reiterate, it's not going to happen.
>>286023024I don't. I just call you a retarded secondary.
>>286019124I promise you that if you go into a Conan thread and start calling people secondaries for writing Shinichi because "it says Jimmy in the manga" you'll be called out for trolling because nobody could possibly be that retarded.
>>286023028Yes, but they SHOULD do that There is the occasional character that manages to keep their name from the Japanese release
