Hello! I'd like to start a new general where we read through the Vampire Hunter D novel series written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and translated into English by Kevin Leahy. I've posted an identical thread on /lit/ because I'm unsure which board would be more appropriate and have set up a strawpoll for those interested to vote on. I do this because while they're novels (Some incorrectly categorised them as a light novels because they're Japanese), the series has spurred several Manga and Anime adaptations making it /a/ adjacent. However, the main focus of these threads will be on the individual novels as we read through them.Currently, I've only ever seen the anime movie, Bloodlust, but have acquired the first three volumes. I'd like to read through the series and see if any other Anons would care to join me. I think I'll aim to post this general once a month on the 13th (because it's a spooky number) which will give us enough time to read the next Volume. Each Volume seems to only be around 200 pages, meaning about 30 days between threads should be enough time for everyone to finish but I'm open to extending or shortening that time if others feel I should. As of right now, there are 30 volumes and The Readers Guide translated into English, meaning this book club can go on for quite some time. In these threads, I'd like to discuss the books in depth and see other peoples opinions, reviews, and impressions or just hang out. Also, any official interviews, reviews, or news clippings for the series are more than welcome in these threads. If (you) are interested, please post a reply and aim to finish Volume 1 by May 13th.I'll provide a google drive I've set up containing every volume currently in English here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/2/folders/19YrG2dC2B5vQ_eaYrfe_QD4e1ljveOSHVote here for which board you think this should be posted on in the future: https://strawpoll.com/GeZAR6R0byV
>>287281665I'm wishing you the best, anon. I don't read books because it's too much work but I liked the movies. I hope they make more Vampire Hunter D anime in the future.
>>287281665Fuck it, I'm down. See you in a month.
>>287281697>'s too much workit's quantifiably less work than posting on 4chan with all the captchas and other buttons
>>287281665I'm in. I've wanted to get into this series.
>>287281665ok, i'm in, as long it's on /a/ because /lit/ is just too gay.
>>287281665Sure, I've been looking for anything with cool vampires that isn't gender bending faggotry since that seems to be the only time someone uses vampires
>>287281665Okay, I'm happy to see a few people are willing to join in. I realised much of America is asleep and Europe is just waking up so hopefully a few more Anons join in before the thread dies. At this point it's looking like we'll keep this on /a/ but I'll leave the strawpoll open until this thread and the /lit/ one dies. If for whatever reason a janny or mod decides to delete these threads we'll just move over to /lit/ but I honestly think this series is /a/ enough to justify it being on this board. Especially because I'm aiming to actually make high effort posts with in-depth discussion. Also, I'm sure more people will join in later as we'll have a monthly thread for the next 2 and a half years so hopefully others will tag along for the ride. Also, I hope posters like >>287281697 reconsider and join in. Like I said, you'll have 30 days to read 200 pages. That's less than 10 pages a day (6.67 a day to be exact). Furthermore, I've heard many of the volumes are fairly independent from each other so Anons that missed the previous threads can just read whatever we're currently on.
>>287281665I was surprised to find out how accurate to the novels both movies were. Sure, some changes were made, but generally they were very faithful even with those.
>>287281665I'm down to proofread if it's needed
>>287281665>dat feel when already read first five novelsIf you continue beyond the first three just keep in mind the fifth novel is mostly "it happened in a dream" and largely skippable.
