I can't really speak for extreme cases like that, like rotten food is not something I could ever tolerate, and well, I'm not going to lose stuff in the clutter because I know where everything is.
But I can see a microcosm of it, and in that sense I get it.
I think the best example of this is trash bags piling up. I don't really see the need here (Depending on the kind of trash it is, of course) to take 3 minutes to take out a single trash bag when I could later spend 3 minutes taking out five.
However, I had a roommate at some point who would go to work and not just take the trash at the same time despite that coming at no extra time spent.
