What I want to know is why they're so obsessed with the new GITS. It's been a constant hate campaign for months, all by people who don't watch anime.
>>
>>290634867
>>290634890
I disagree with both of you.
>>
I disagree, I'm enjoying it quite a bit :)
>>
>>290634927
because the IP is famous enough to be noticed by people who stopped watching anime / playing vidya 10 years ago in favor of shitposting 24/7. Since GitS also happens to have several iterations and these people were raised on console war shitposts, they think the same can be implemented here.

It kinda makes sense on paper, in a "USSR will collapse in an instant if I just take Moscow" kind of way where your intel sucks
>>
I disagree, I haven't watched the 2026 OR the original. :)

Give me some criticism of GitS 2026, then.
Not the "old good new bad" line or trying to start some sort of war over it, give some actual criticisms. Because the problem isn't people criticizing GitS 2026. It's that nobody is doing so, they're just comparing it to the 1995 movie and then expecting everybody else to actually dig up some criticism to compare the two.

GitS isn't consistent at all, it's fair to like some production but not another

As a franchise it never really allured me to begin with.

FTFY
>>
>>290640897
That would be because Scarlett Johanson is a 6.5/10 on a good day.
On my bus ride back home last thursday I saw three girls who were hotter than her.

It's absolutely baffling that ScarJo became like this modern-day Marilyn Munroe in pop culture, it's almost as if people got zapped with a neuralyzer beam that made them forget that the average B-lister actress in the 80s was an absolute goddess compared to ScarJo. Even all the way up until the mid-2000s it wasn't difficult to come across total smokeshows in Hollywood movies. But for some reason, there was this Mandela Effect style mass delusion in the 2010s that made everybody's standards go way down the toilet, to the point where a chick like Scarlett Johansson got suddenly catapulted to the highest rank of sexual iconicity as if no other actress ever existed.

Like, let's not even reach too high up the shelf: Kate Beckinsale. Total hottie, right? Did her movies get erased from history when ScarJo flashed her cleavage in Avengers or something?

SAC is my favorite anime of all time, and I'm fucking loving this new GitS, anyone who has any criticisms is ontologically evil and stupid. Not even joking. The new show has the je ne sais quoi of both the movies and SAC, the atmosphere and the worldbuilding are immediately familiar and have that GitS feel that drew me in the first time I ever saw the show/movies. Crazy to think that we've been waiting so long for good GitS content, that content comes along, and people still find ways to pick it apart.

They are funny. They went from "woohoo lesbian sex" to "what is this series about" as they finally watch more.
>>
>>290634867
It’s beautifully animated. All the parts that suck are directly from the manga. Which explains why it was never adapted.
>>
>>290648428
It was adapted and its great.
>>
>>290639576
>buying things from poor people is victimizing them
She says this shit while living a completely consumerist lifestyle. In her downtime all she does is date random men and have expensive cybersex with lesbian robots.
The only way I can stomach that line is if the author intentionally wrote her as a blatant hypocrite. But she’s also his mouthpiece so I don’t think that’s the case. Watching this just exposes what a weird myopic person the author is. No wonder he’s impossible to contact.
>>
>>290648557
No I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be a hypocrite. It's not a total condemnation it's just her starting to realize there's more to life than whatever she's been doing, but without being willing to confront her past.

In MMI, she gets directly called out on her hedonistic lifestyle and goes "yeah whatever I guess it's childhood trauma or something, who cares"
>>
>>290634927
People that don't like anime love Oshii's GITS in particular because they think it is totally different from 'lame moeslop'. GITS 26 is a betrayal to them because it is so tonally and stylistically different from Oshii's film and isn't ashamed to be an anime.
Its a good film, but that crowd of people are as obnoxiously loud as they are stupid and ignorant.
>>
>>290648620
that might have been true circa 2012, but right now nobody who shits on 2026 does it out of love for 1995.

They do it because they're sharteens and think shitposting is a lifestyle

NTA
I like the style, colours and energy
overall I like the anime

but my main gripe is I'm realising you can't just adapt only the pictures of this manga
because of the footnotes
the footnotes in the manga aren't just interesting tidbits of information, they provide crucial context
they're as important as the visuals
they needed to be included, a bit like adapting a book
>but they sometimes display the footnotes for 1.62 seconds
yeah, no
come the fuck on

although Saru also skips important bits of dialogue
like Ishikawa being second in command, for example
>>
>>290648889
The studio is known as trash for a reason.
>>
>>290648737
yes, but the shitposting isn't coming from those people

>>290648756
she's supposed to be flawed as a person
>>
>>290648889
IS IT important to know Ishikawa's rank?

IS IT?

>yeah, no
Okay then what's your preferred runtime for a footnote to appear on screen?

Keep in mind Saru went out of their way to provide extra context through original content at several points, and all of it was helpful.
>>
>>290648979
I didn't know the author is a woman, but I agree with calling her flawed, retarded even.
>>
>>290649030
>IS IT important to know Ishikawa's rank?
>IS IT?
yes
I thought it was Batou until I read the manga

>Okay then what's your preferred runtime for a footnote to appear on screen?
not display it at all and adapt it instead, obviously
>Saru went out of their way to provide extra context through original content at several points
when
I don't think 2501 dunking on scientists at Catan was a tremendous improvement to the narrative
the explanation of the negotiation between the foreign ministers was nice, I suppose
although I immediately forgot who is who because of the trippy names
who came up with "Ghorantl", Hideo Kojima?

>>
>>290649251
>I thought it was Batou until I read the manga
Is it important for this misconception to be dispelled?

>when
During the moments you're mentioning, but also during the ghost-diving, where the imagery used (the tree, or Aramaki's ghost being visible) foreshadows the Net as well as Motoko's psychic powers without requiring a namedrop of the Channeling Agency.

As for the rest, you're admitting yourself that it's improvement, you're just pretending I claimed it was a "tremendous" one, so that you can save face despite openly agreeing with me.

There are points of criticism to make about 2026, but they just aren't what you said.
>>
>>290634867
GITS 2026 is a confused mess.
just look at the automobile animation. they didn't use CGI, but also spent no budget on them.
they don't know what the fuck they wanted to do.
If it's "faithful to the source material" why make up two whole episode's worth of plot? While still eliding over other story elements.
>>
>>290649345
Retard.
>>
>>290649427
I accept your concession.
>>
>>290649422
Faithfulness isn't just a matter of form it's also a question of intent.
The plot in those episodes is very consistent with the source material and even clarifies it.

For instance, Shirow only included subliminal references to nanomachines being used to terraform the world (in advertisement panels) but Saru made it into an explicit plot point which makes the events of GitS obviously relevant to future history.

So it's actually a big improvement over the manga in that area, while correctly respecting Shirow's authorial intent.

Let's put it this way: 4chan doesn't produce OC anymore, it doesn't impact the outside world anymore, it doesn't produce actionable wisdom, and it only interface with other communities in a parasitic way.

So basically, if you aren't posting on 4chan for the sake of making yoursel feel smart for being able to convince random people of things that don't actually matter, then you must be mistaken about what 4chan is and does.

When did you get the idea that Motoko had a lot of empathy for others.
She's a social darwinist. She's jut aware of who and what she is. Who she hates, are social critics that complain about problems while also contributing to them.
Motoko doesn't give a shit about starving kids in Africa, but if you do and you still live a consumerist lifestyle, you're the worst type of person in her mind.

I post on 4chan because it is one of the last places without karma and without identities
meaning what matters is the merit of the opinion alone
and I do get to read interesting opinions fairly often as a result

trying to convince others and others trying to convince you is not an ego trip, it's how a conversation is supposed to work
I do get tired of anons constantly trying to psychoanalyse me instead

I also find it funny how it is impossible to hold grudges
it probably happened many times that I had an angry exchange with an anon, only to later unknowingly have a pleasant conversation with him in the very same thread

You fell for the marketing pitch. Grudges do in fact occur, it's just that, since you can't tell for sure if you're talking to the same guy as last time, you end up lumping random people together (even unconsciously) and your lingering resentment spreads across many unrelated convos.

Hence the acerbic tone of this website in general, and why so meny people end up growing a persecution complex (schizos, in proper 4chan speak); everyone carries a hundred chips on their shoulder from conversations that ended up like this

That's a non-sequitur if I ever heard one.

She's a misanthrope.
She also wants to eliminate bad guys. But the thing you must understand here and that will (hopefully) be made clear in the last episode, is that Motoko primarily sees it as a job someone has to do, or else everything goes to shit. She also has moral standards, but she doesn't really care about enforcing them unless she's been directly involved.

Hence the trashman metaphor that was introduced in Junk Jungle and followed up on during the trial. There are people who fuck everything up, and if you let them get away with it, nothing works. Simple as. Evil is understood as pollution, noise within the system. It can't be entirely eliminated, but it must be kept at bay.

Hence why Motoko feels comfortable with her own excesses. On a global scale, it balances out.

Aramaki is mostly concerned with justice. She's mostly concerned with keeping things functional.

(another reason why the depollution nanomachine subplot is thematically relevant. Poseidon aren't heroes, they're just what the planet needs right now)
