>Purchase an agreement to sell thing for X at some point soon.
>Agreement is the commodity you’re trading, value, Y is the spread between the things price and X
>At time of purchase of the agreements, you stand to gain Y from selling all agreed upon things for X, make gains because thing is cheaper than X
>Relative values of thing shift
>Suddenly thing is more expensive than X. Y is now negative. If optioned, you are now obligated per agreement to sell thing for X, which is lower than the purchase price, losing you Y across your entire position

Also it’s feasible to purchase things on short term credit, and be forced to take losses when the things you purchased with that credit are worth less than you paid when you are obligated to return that credit. See: Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems

Stop loss orders are retarded and only hedge bets you shouldn’t make.

>how can money just vanish? I don't get it.
In a world where money is an abstract representative of actual real world industry, materials, and goods, it doesn't make any sense.

The West is under the regime of merchants, and they've turned money into meaningless sheets of (digital) paper they could repackage and trade amongst themselves in ever more convoluted ways, and then pat themselves in the back while the real world rots from under them.

Nothing. Women don't deserve saving. They live life on easy mode. Women can make bad decision after bad decision and as long as they make just 1 good decision in life they will be fine. Meanwhile a single bad decision can ruin a man's entire life.

The dress and lipstick was already obvious that she's either working as a hostess or some strip club or prostitution directly to pay the losses but realized how little you earn from those jobs and you're actually paying for the interest rates rather than the actual loss itself. There was no escape for her and if she declared bankruptcy, her husband would've discovered her shit and divorce her. Maybe a few days or weeks have passed but I'm surprised her husband didn't know about the loss but maybe she had a private bank account and didn't put her family savings in their join account.
>>
>>291377468
There's literally nothing wrong with emptying your life's savings on your first investment.

It doesn't matter, in the opening scene she has 3.25 million yen, which is about $32k in 2013 money. She started with 300k yen, so that means she made a lot already.

Leaving behind a 14 year old daughter is kinda shitty, is divorce worse than death?

>The dress and lipstick was already obvious that she's either working as a hostess or some strip club or prostitution directly to pay the losses but realized how little you earn from those jobs
Some anon noted this took place in 2008. I heard another anon say the prostitute supply was high then but dudes were broke so the demand was low. I don't know if that was true.

The sex work supply is abysmally high these days. Even with OF or some sex streaming app nothing has changed. If you go to streets at night, chances are you'll meet a few sex workers in each corner along the way depending on the city where you live in. Decades ago they stay in red light districts, or designated hidden districts if the city deemed them illegal. Now, sex work is so desensitized that you can even see these girls even hanging out at 711s or similar to that at night. They approach you to sell themselves, and even the "younger" ones have a code to keep those secret cops or social justice warriors out.

I blame the father for lack of oversight but I read somewhere that in Japan the mother is usually responsible for managing the family finances. If so you can't really blame him for what happened. He seems like a pretty chill dude anyway.

Women are responsible for the consumerist economy we are in; they cannot be trusted with money, ever.

There is context lost here because it happens later in the manga but Kurumi's mom was a VERY normal housewife. She legit loved her husband and family.

She fell into FOREX by mistake and was actually pretty good at it. She spent 2 years winning (this is the trap). She became overconfident and went all in on a guaranteed win (rookie mistake).

Now let me explain markets for a second. Market movements are based on volume but there are rubberbands on top of this. You can't go to zero because there is theoretically value to a broken screw just like it can't go up to infinity because resources are finite. While you buy or sell there are other people selling or buying. Massive buying volume creates downward pressure and the same for selling volume.

If everyone is going ALL IN on a can't lose everyone is guaranteed to lose except the one who takes profits first which is usually institutional investors and hedge funds who have 10000 stop loses and mechanisms in place to capitalize.

Now back to Kurumi's mom never received the ass blasting that many seasoned retail get early that teaches them these lessons. So when THE BIG ONE arrived she had no context and fell into the dangerous FOMO+Sunk Cost trap.
Her account got wiped by a margin call and in order to save it she went into debt to try and save her other positions. The problem is this is 2008 and her other positions also started tanking resulting in further margin calls.

Now a responsible trader knows to just take the lose at this point and live to fight another day. She thought she could trade her way out of this which never works and she ended up in a mass spiral until she trapped herself in massive debt.

Kurumi's dad tends to be treated as a paragon so his main flaw is being too trusting of his wife the real tragedy is he probably would have never divorced her and she wasn't a bad person she had an unchecked addiction.

It is pretty good writing.

>Why do like 95% of people lose on these markets?
Because these markets are not designed for gambling. These are just currency exchanges for people running businesses who buy and sell stuff in other nations. Trying to gamble on FX is like trying to gamble on how much rain is going to happen on a random Tuesday. In theory you have winners and losers, but if you gamble long enough on leverage you run out of money way before you get rich. And it doesn't help that in rare times when they do get lucky they get greedy and keep wanting more.

>I don't check my bank account for months on end. I'm always surprised by the number. Maybe the dad is just aloof like that.
In Japan it is tradition that the wife does the finances. The husband gives his whole pay-cheque in cash to the wife and then get an allowance for his own spending. He earns the money, she manages it. This is why so many housewives in Japan ended up trying FX trading, because they were literally managing money for the household.
