If you really want some lore dumps that I'll probably never get to explain in the actual work, Fyrix affection is complicated. Fundamentally, their society is a somewhat oxymoronic "individualist collective". Everyone's more or less on their own, but everyone's still buying into the same game. Nevertheless, you do have friendships, but from our perspective they'd still be incredibly transactional, more like a professional acquaintance than an actual friend. Fyrix affection to me is someone whom you can trust to not exploit your weakness to their own benefit, (which is a rare commodity.) This is generally signaled via emanations to establish a sort of unspoken contract that whatever's discussed will remain unexploited. As you can imagine, when your entire existence is one unending rat race, this can feel quite refreshing. I'd equate that level of vulnerability to cuddling, even though the Fyrix aren't the most physical in their affections. I think of it like getting high off of their mere presence. There is some physical aspect to both locking hand-to-forearm, as well as trophallaxis, but physical contact is mostly incidental. From a human perspective, they wouldn't psychologically differentiate touching their shoulder or their inner thighs, they're all just 'touches' that carry very little meaning beyond propinquity. A Fyrix might just be flopped sideways on top of another and still be having the time of their life.

This makes a 'sultry' pose difficult from our perspective since it's mostly chemical. I think the closest translation would be a sideways preening pose that displays as much of them as possible, because simply to be valuable and well groomed is to be desired. But pushing the definition of sultry to purely sexual, It would probably be the female Fyrix on her back with her abdomen between her thighs as she waits for the male to link his to hers.

This is a purely SFW work. Getting people interested in something that doesn't have sex in it is difficult, but rewarding, and I don't want to cheapen the work by making it smut. That being said, considering my other works it's obvious I've thought about this. (Guilty as charged.) I wouldn't say humans and Fyrix are *entirely* compatible. Socially it's a little difficult, but physically a human could fit. The way they derive pleasure is different, as the Fyrix method is staying attached for half the day and maybe longer if they're feeling frisky. But if the question is can a human bring pleasure to a Fyrix and vise versa, the answer is yes. They'd need to remain understanding as you do your weird thrusting thing, and you'd need to remain understanding as they insist you stay inside for hours after you'd already gone soft and need to carry them around if you want to get anything done. Also, Fyrix aren't constantly horny like humans are. It's something you need to induce, but honestly, if they were with a human I feel it would end up being permanent.

Sorry to crush your dreams if you were expecting Eigen to give Nithry the dick in the middle of the jungle. I suppose Eigen would probably be really horny after years of isolation, even if it's a weird bug boy, but it'll need to be in your imagination. However, as the author, I will tell you that Dr. Zyrrs would definitely, absolutely want to examine his sexual organs up close. Scientifically of course, but I'll leave the depth of that unsaid.

This is all interesting stuff and makes sense with how they're constructed. You've again done a good job making it both very different but still understandable. Having it be largely chemically signalling fits well.

I will disagree on this point, I think people have this attitude because a lot of smut can be... Obvious? A minor agricultural pest that devastated the harvest. What's a planetary governor to do when they can't pay the tithe? Play up the threat. Oh yeah them bugs are vicious, we couldn't fight them off! Once it goes through the grapevine it turns into world devastating hive fleeting warrior bugs. Tyranids appearing on another world? Shit they probably have spacefaring capabilities, probably the Tyranid advance force. Sound the alarm boys. Reports of devastating defenses? PDF and guard making themselves look good by hyping the enemy up.
Chaos?
Only exists as an idea. Cults are people trying new things, Chaos gets blamed because no one wants to admit that their public education, healthcare, entertainment options, and police force suck. Chaos doesn't give power, the people get stronger because they have something to believe in and worship. Ships getting fucked while passing through the warp? It's the ships FTL drives messing up because they're old and worn out. Or someone put in the wrong coordinates but no one else can read them so they don't catch it. Chaos Space Marines are just an excuse to disavow and demonize rebel Astartes.
A few retellings later and you've got Chaos Gods and Daemons and such.

The space locusts faction that actually are just space locusts is amusing to me.
The smallest types being 1:1 with their IRL scale model and then growing in size appropriately from there; The largest Tyranid would be like a small dog... But Astartes still end up dying from them, BECAUSE they are so small and the weapons the tyranids use still have the same effects.
Like, you can't exactly shoot a bolter at the foul xenos when they're physically on top of your friend's body armor; you'd just end up shooting your friend by over-killing the target.

I was actually going for Tyranids just not existing at all. Someone tells a tall tale and now everyone's heard about the all consuming Tyranids and assumes that native species of locusts on their annual nomming season are actually the advance invasion force of mythical spacefaring hive. Maybe I'm overthinking things or I'm just dumb, lol. I do really like the concept, I think I'm just too slow to fully get it all the time.

Hello all, AurumVerd here. Turns out learning art from scratch with no experience takes a bit longer than I had anticipated. As such, I'll probably focus on getting the sequel to "Surrender, Surrender" fully revised and released first before getting any art made. I had intended to get the art done first, not the otherway round, but I've been sitting on a nearly completed story for over a month now, and I can't wait much longer. It might be a while before my art reaches the quality that I'm happy with, so a temporary cover will likely be used in the short term, but I think I can live with that. The Jakkari ships look very much like a young spacefaring species, I get the impression of an aquatic vessel adapted for air operations and subsequently adapted again for operations in the void. I would imagine that it doesn't have a great operational range, probably operates better defensively than offensively.
The weapon placement also reeks of "fierce face" (see Soviet Kirov-class nuclear cruiser for comparison). It looks mean, but if you land one incendiary hit on that missile deck, then all that ordnance is going up like a roman candle.

I really like the narrow waist. It feels appropriate for something that has most of its digestive tract in its abdomen. Just makes it seem that much buggier if their thorax serves a similar purpose as it does with real bugs. I also like the little hairs in the knees, since I imagine if you had your joints exposed you'd probably want something similar to eyelashes to help keep dust from getting inside. I'm also not sure why, but I kind of like the slightly knock-kneed stance that this one has along with this one. It makes them seem slightly more fragile, I think, and it fits the general vibe of the story.

I feel a little guilty for stipulating the anatomy on the hands, haha, or just making them bugs in general. Sometimes I feel like the only reason anthro bugs aren't more popular is in part due to how much more effort they take to draw compared to your average. So much chitin, so many joints... Thanks for the art!

I feel you, chitinous stuff isn't too hard except when it comes to the joints. It's kind of difficult to think of how they would still have a reasonable range of motion while being shielded from dust and physical trauma. I've been trying to teach myself to draw and it's definitely a chore to grind fundies without someone's judging gaze.

I can't give any hints because I'm deep in the same rut.
Imagining and then sketching out characters and situations is all fun and easy to do, but whenever something I feel I "can't do perfectly yet" comes up I coward out and put the piece down for "when I figure that stuff out". But powering through and confronting that "hard thing" would be what lets me figure 'the thing' out, so it's kinda self-defeating.
I usually blame my lack of drive and discipline for giving up whenever the gratification ends and the "work" starts, but it might very well be something else that I'm not entirely aware of. Some times it gets better when I JUST DO IT™

I'm still working on the first story of my sci-fi/fantasy setting and it's pretty unambiguously bisexual.
It'll start out with straight content but later on there will be dedicated homogayfagshit, and not the weird edit-an-existing-story as with Snekguy's stuff. and the worst part is, no matter how many extra portrait mods you may enable, the same base-game, vanilla portraits get used.
To mitigate that, you have to physically go into the "common" folder of the folder where the executable is, and neutralize/replace every single mention of the hated portraits (in the syntax, to comment an entire line, one # at its beginning should suffice). The second-worst part is that even then the base-game portraits you messed with re-occur, and stare you in the face in their accursed, invisible form.
The third worst thing is that even after purging base-game portraits, most species will still overwhelmingly look the same (assuming you even spare any portraits at all) because base-game portraits have some ungodly high weight defined somewhere in the code.
I kinda gave up playing the game or buying any DLCs after the pop and planet rework overwrote the miscellaneous base-game changes I made to improve my experience, only to then miserably crash from the sheer amount of errors as I attempted to rebuild my old modpack. I tried pretty hard, even selectively activating mods to figure out which one had errors that were not just glorified warnings, verified line after line of mod syntax and logic, but no use.
It was only about a month ago that the idea of simply copying mod files and overwriting them into the base-game asset files even occured to me, but I felt too hollow to even start trying to figure out which files should be replaced and which interface files should be adapted to the new textures, so best of luck to whoever may try and be sure to back up your work!

My only complaint is how bland or mediocre humanity is in the story. Most of the aliens are giant super heroes by comparison, even the smaller races are still physically stronger, much smarter, or far faster. It also legitimately looks like humanity bears the brunt of everything bad in the series yet benefits little from the alliance. Tldr SWAR did nothing wrong and were basically right about everything.

I started reading Pinwheel with the promise of long form and completed /xeno/core human male on female alien, specifically the Valbarans. I thought the world building in Human Resources and Birds of Prey was pretty good, so I started reading some of his other stories and found out that I really like Brokers and Jarilans as well. Hate Borealans though. I think some here shit on the stories way too much. Not every single story is the best in my opinion but they're not unredeemable dogshit or whatever. that he writes every species, including humans, as though they are purely a function of biological determinism but even if their shitty behavior is built into their very biology you're supposed to just forgive and forget
That every character has almost no traits besides their species and job, making them entirely flat, leads to samey or stilted situations and makes their development feel hollow. Especially for sex scenes which are very predictable.
The whole thing gives the first impression that its going to be a serious setting with grand ambition but any attempt to actually do that as a reader leads to running face first into something dumb. You shouldn't take it more seriously than as simple femdom smut which then makes hundreds of thousands of words complete and total wastes of your time. It doesn't respect its own concepts that it introduces but still expects you to respect them just because it tells you to.

The amount of cluelessness the author has about SWAR and their arguments is too great to actually exist, I have to assume it's done out of malice to make critics of the stories or the alien's flaws (which are objective) look stupid.
I will give a sliver of sympathy and say I think he's in over his head, like he just wanted to make a basic framework for his catgirl smut but did too much worldbuilding and finds himself in control of an overambitious setting larger then his actual ambition, wedged in between the demands of a bunch of furries backing his patreon who want more mixed-sex orgies non-con and Team Diversity, most of his actual readership who're HMoFA and repulsed by all that, and the general sci-fi fans and us who do most of the fanwork and world of mouth who're now ripping the series to pieces for it's underdelivery and wasted potential.
What a shitshow. I expect a declaration of burnout and dropping the series sooner or later.

Right now he might be still up for writing the stuff, but I do think his irritation is starting to bled into the works themselves, which won't help. There really isn't equivalent content, that's the whole issue.
Name one setting that competes directly with Pinwheel.
Nature of Predators? The only porn is in the AU. Anthrostate? The quality varies massively between authors and it's rife with even more femdom. There are plenty of better HMOFA writers out there but they're not writing massive series, only the odd one-shot.
Nobody else is producing as much content as consistently to the same standard. You might argue that it's a low standard but it's a consistent one. As the anon who made the McDonalds analogy said, people know what they're getting, it's fast food. It's not gourmet but you know what to expect and you like it well enough to keep coming back for more.
That means people are going to talk about it because there's nothing else to talk about. It means people will read it because there's nothing else to read. It's a small niche that he dominates through volume and being just good enough to please most readers.
Complaining about it is pointless because the formula works and he's not going to stop as long as he's making money. I'm not sure why you would want him to stop because it just shrinks the genre further. Recommend and promote authors you think are better. Support authors who want to do what snekguy does but lack the funding or the audience.
Having competition might even force him to step up his game which benefits everyone. Open a Burger King.
