The books dive into crazier psychic powers as they go on, kinda like NEO: The World Ends With You; the second book is about timestop (including a final battle directly lifted from Jotaro vs. DIO), the third is about time travel, etc. The pufferfish face is from a page in that universe's grand grimoire of hypnotism containing that and a few other weird faces that can induce cryptic hypnotic effects, but I don't recall the author going into too much detail.
