It's often called staircasing and is highly indicative that he is indeed experiencing SFOCD-related cartilage/joint breakdown. Ask the vet for monthly frunevetmab injections. I don't know what the brand name would be in China. It's a monoclonal antibody specifically designed for feline osteoarthritis. It's not even used for osteochondritis because it's specifically geared towards joint pain rather than floating bits of joint stuff. It acts like natural antibodies to target and neutralize Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which triggers joint pain. Super safe for long-term use because it gets processed like a protein rather than getting metabolised by the liver and kidneys. Otherwise, the vet might use pentosan polysulfate or polysulfated glycosaminoglycan, which are harsher and metabolised in the organs mentioned as well as the spleen.If the cat develops osteochondritis and needs surgeries to remove detached, floating bone chips and cartilage gunk, frunevetmab might be prescribed as an off-label, preventative medication because those surgeries can lead to accelerated development of arthritis.Anyway, because SFOCD typically requires a multimodal treatment plan, your vet might also suggest gabapentin and/or any of various nsaids, as well as the injections.If he develops exostoses (bone spurs around the ankles), he's going to need surgery to shave them down but the better course of action is to stem it to begin with. Ounce of prevention and all that. Advanced hospital facilities can help prevent them using low-dose palliative radiation therapy. Again, idk about China, but in the western world, LD-PR is expensive. >>5138328Thanks, that’s all good info, but I don’t think he’s at that point yet. He’s always been hesitant to jump down from stuff and always staircases even when he was young. He has no problem jumping up but he sucks at jumping down. His tail is still erect and moves fine, and he still gets the zoomies almost daily. I really hope that he doesn’t get it very bad, but I’ll be keeping my eye out for any signs of pain. I think a vet checkup is in order soon just to be safe. I’m not noticing anything new or different about him but I am impressed with how much energy he still has.
