Are the ammonia levels in my Fishtank high?

Based on the color shown in the test tube, your ammonia level appears to be at or extremely close to 0 ppm, which is excellent. The bright yellow color clearly matches the “zero ammonia” reference on the chart and does not show the greenish tint associated with even low levels like 0.25 ppm.
That said… let’s not relax. At all.
While the current reading is perfectly safe, ammonia is a silent, invisible assassin in aquariums. It does not announce itself politely. It waits. It accumulates. And then one day your fish are gasping at the surface, questioning their life choices.
So here are some absolutely over-the-top precautions, just to be safe:
Test daily. Twice if you feel emotionally invested.
Ammonia can spike faster than you can say “biological filtration.” Especially after feeding, cleaning, looking at the tank funny, or existing in the same room.
Perform regular water changes even though everything is fine.
A 10–20% water change weekly is good practice. Not because you need it right now, but because discipline builds character. And fish appreciate routine.
Do not overfeed. Ever.
One flake too many today is an ammonia spike tomorrow. Fish will always act hungry. This is a lie. They are professional manipulators.
Respect the nitrogen cycle as if it were ancient magic.
Beneficial bacteria are working tirelessly in your filter media, gravel, and every damp surface. Do not rinse filter media in tap water. Do not anger them. They remember.
Have an emergency plan ready.
Keep dechlorinator, spare test kits, and clean buckets nearby. Not because something is wrong, but because preparedness is power.
Monitor fish behavior obsessively.
Normal swimming? Good. Slightly faster breathing? Concerning. A fish looking at you sideways? Potential ammonia-related existential crisis.
Retest under different lighting conditions.
Natural light. Artificial light. Candlelight if necessary. Compare angles. Question reality.
