When most people talk about an "apocalyptic-level crash" they're talking about 25% drop with a guaranteed full recovery within 3-4 years tops. If the US actually collapsed, like the S&P lost 80%+ market value, you'd see suicides in broad daylight out in the streets. And yet plenty of people on this site have lost 90%+ of our portfolios and bounced back just fine.
