How can you go wrong with a CNC business?

I've worked in precision metal fabrication, shit used in medical, aerospace, semiconductor blah blah blah you get it. Shit requires extreme precision, sometimes tolerances at .005 inches or lower. The guys running the machines had all been doing it for 10+ years.

That's where you blow the dust off of "Machining for dummies" and get to work

>sometimes tolerances at .005 inches or lower
that's not that impressive desu. i worked in a carbon fiber factory that made, among other things, temples for rayban and our tolerances were 0,05mm which google tells me equals to 0,001968504in
>>
>>58458148
Back in the good ol days they'd get one ten thousandth of an inch by hand

Very beginner level.
Witness next level Chad.
5nm = ~40 atoms.
Sloppy.
But it is just a test piece.

I can't recall for sure what the tolerances were for a few reasons. I haven't worked there in a while, I tried really hard to forget everything about that fucking place, and also I worked in the wire department so I wasn't in the CNC room often. These were components made from gold and platinum alloys. I assume the material has some influence on how tight the tolerances can be. Wire was drown down to as low as .0003" (.00762mm) inches and ribbon was rolled to .00025" (.00635mm) thickness. Standard tolerance was +/- 10%
I just didn't bring any of that up because it's not relevant to a thread about CNC machining.

>>58458229
It's also besides the point because I only posted to illustrate that OP is a faggot who thinks he can just magically gain years of craftwork
>>
>>58458148
A lot of the tolerances in the shop I worked at were +/- .001". Up to +.0001 -.0000" That's standard for aerospace/defense
>>58458046
You won't find a new cnc machine for 10k. Anything used will most likely need parts or repairs/calibration. You would have to know how to 3D model and CNC program, which aren't too crazy to learn. But any programming mistakes can and will cause your machine to crash, destroying whatever it runs into. So the start cost is high, cost of errors is high, but once everything is up and running you can make valuable parts to sell. Cost of upkeep is a little high too with cutting oils, tools, tool holders, work piece holders the like
>>
meanwhile the chinese make these for like $10 shipped

get to work on what?

Chances are that even if you do find a relatively profitable niche, you'll be buying raw material at such a high price (low volume), and your single $10k machine have such a low yield that your *cost* per unit will be more than the retail price of your more experienced, larger competitors.

Your $10k machine + your lack of experience won't be able to compete at the other end of the market either (high price, low volume, high quality).

The only work you'll be doing is figuring out how to sell the machine for as close to $10k as possible.

It's all about getting customers.

Your average normie consumer has no need for shit like this.

Your average person/company who does have a need for shit like this gets it done at specialized companies who either offer high quality, or cheaper price due to scale (automated process, bulk orders, etc.).

If you can find a niche that fits in between these groups and successfully market to it then maybe. But it's hell of a lot more work than just buying a machine and throwing up some ads on Google.

Not exactly the same thing, but look how much PCB manufacturing costs these days https://jlcpcb.com/ and look at the YouTube videos of their factory.

idk, what low quality burgers need but here in europe you normally manufacture with certain general tolerance depending on size of the dimension
for example
0 - 6 mm = +/- 0,1mm
6-30 mm = +/- 0,2mm
>30 mm = +/- 0,3mm

so a dimension with 16,4mm would be tolerated with +/- 0,2mm. I work in a field with very small and precise parts (defence, nuclear and aero) and we normally have tolerances of 0,1mm to 0,05mm and surface finishes of Ra 3,2 to 1,6. shit like this is not even expensive and can be done with normal 250k€ machines with <100 tools. we often just order shit directly from China/Hong Kong and its even faster than to order it from other european countries.

it's super lame if the variance is actually that much. visibly inconsistent.

don't expect 4chan retard jerk offs to understand that there are shops ran by oldheads with 20 years of experience whose sole autism to solving problems and making jobs run faster on 5-axis setups

Any better ideas?

Lmao. That's a tolerance of 4 thou. That's baby tier.

Also baby tier.
