Not into this hobby and I feel retarded for asking but have had this burning question recently... Out of curiosity, has there ever been a religious itabag? ...like one dedicated to Jesus Christ, or a saint? considering there are plenty of Christians and Christian items, and dedicated shrines are common, I feel like it's only a matter of time before an autistic one decides to express his/her faith this way.

I haven’t personally seen one, but I’d find it extremely hard to believe that someone hasn’t made some kind of religious itabag at some point whether it be ironic or totally serious (probably without knowing what an itabag even is.) What I have seen are historical figure bags. Pic related.

>Your favorite itabag that you've seen in the wild or online
There have been a lot of gorgeous ones to inspire envy but right now I can only remember the Guy Fieri bag I once saw
>Dream itabag if cost, reality, etc. weren't factors
Now I can't stop imagining a Gordon Ramsay bag.
>>
>>10891956
>>Your current itabag/fandom fashion project(s)
I'm slowly working on two. First one is a Edmond from Nu Carnival bag. His merch can get expensive, the can badge that I'm focusing on tends to sell for 8k+ yen in sets and they get bought up pretty quickly. The second is a Kuromi bag, with that one I'm trying to challenge myself by using different types of merch.

>>Your favorite itabag that you've seen in the wild or online
Not my favorite, but I saw my first itabag in the wild (outside of a con environment) a few weeks ago on the train. I think it was a Genshin character? It looked incomplete but it was still cute and had potential.

>>Dream itabag if cost, reality, etc. weren't factors
More dream base bag than itabag, I wish some PU leather bags could just be made out of anything else.

I have a lot of favorites! Currently it might be the yume nikki bags I've seen around and also this Ayato bag is super fun.
If I ever see a tote like this for a character I like I'd love to turn it into an itabag for them!
>Dream itabag if cost, reality, etc. weren't factors
I'd love to do one for Ahiru (or just princess tutu in general) but it has basically zero merch.
Ib might also be interesting but I'd have to hunt a bit.

>Your current itabag/fandom fashion project(s)
Currently working on my Sanji from One Piece bags. I have a WEGO backpack and Swimmer tote I'm trying to fill. Also want to learn how to make rosettes.

>Your favorite itabag that you've seen in the wild or online
Saw someone at Katsucon 2022 with an amazing Mad Dog/Kyotani from Haikyu bag who was even repping wearable merch. It was by far my favorite niche bag spotting I've had in the wild and I regret not sparking a convo with them. Also have to shout out this con regular who always carries around multiple huge bags and plushes of the two guys from Heaven's Official Blessing.

>Dream itabag if cost, reality, etc. weren't factors
Not really necessarily a dream bag per se but I think it's really funny when people coordinate an outfit or cosplay to match their bags. Wanna do that someday.

That reminds me! Does anyone have patterns or resources for fun 3rd party merch ideas for if your husband or wife or ship doesn't have much and you want to create filler? The Pearl itabagger comes to mind, I saw that image a long time ago and all the third party merch she created along with her outfit was darling.
>>
>>10890429
Can someone explain the seemingly meme status of this bag? I always see it wherever people are discussing ita bags. I even saw a Midosuji ita bag on display at ANYC a few years back, though I doubt it was the same one.
Is Midosuji just a character people make ita bags for, for the hell of it?

Honestly pretty jealous because I like him myself.
>>
I'm so fucking tired. I'm so desperate for themed ita bags that aren't catered to stupid normies who just wanna put in a few enamel pins. I have a castle ita bag that would be amazing for one of my faves, if not for the fact that it's fucking miniscule. I want ita bags with theming that are Zakkamart bag sized.

The only decently sized themed ita bag is an owl one that I use for my RE8 Duke stuff, but that's out of production and the shop that sold it is defunct, so if the bag gets damaged I'm fucked.

This sucks.
>>

>>
>>10892499
Is that the one on Kickstarter? No offense, but I think you dodged a bullet, it looks... Bad. When it comes to theme bags Taobao brands execute them so much better, like the toast bag or the guitar bag. Normies are too obsessed with enamel pins that they neglect to make their designs itabag friendly, but they still advertise them a such.
>>
>>10892610
>Did you miss the part where I posted about my actual bag (only one of my 8)?
Just having an itabag doesn't necessarily mean it's good though, usually people with a bunch of them just get the ones with the smallest windows possible, put a few pieces of merch in and then move onto the next one. which is fine, it's your bag and you're free to do what you want, but don't act like you're somehow superior to pin bag normies especially when you don't even write out itabag properly.

Themed base bags are shit anyway, at best they look better without the any merch in it (pic rel) and at worst they look cringy as fuck like those furry dick shaped ones. The only ones that regularly look nice with merch and aren't stupidly shaped are the sanrio ones.
>>
>>10892629
This wasn't from Kickstarted iirc. Taobao has some nice quality bags but they're still tiny. I usually stick to Zakkamart.
>>
>>10892630
I am absolutely superior to pin bag normies and frankly I find it fucking retarded that you put more value on the spelling of itabag, over whether the person in question actually takes the hobby seriously.

Also itabags are supposed to be cringe. Like it's in the fucking name.
>>
>>10892656
>I am absolutely superior to pin bag normies
You're really not.
>over whether the person in question actually takes the hobby seriously.
Which you clearly don't if you're more concerned over the 'LOL QUIRKY BASE BAG' over the merch itself.
>Also itabags are supposed to be cringe
Cringe as in how many character goods you can shove onto a bag, not cringe as in 'my bag is shaped like a furry dick'.
>>
>>10892630
I'm not an itabag person, just a lolita passerby, but this bag is so cute. Where is it from?

>>
>>10892663
I am lol.

I cannot possibly emphasize how retarded it is to say someone doesn't take the hobby seriously because they... prefer themed base bags. Leave the hobby, you're a fucking loser.
>>
>>10892656
>Also itabags are supposed to be cringe
The connotation of "itai" in itabags and itas are different.
Itabag = hurts to look at/carry because it's cumbersome and heavy and the merchandise is painful to the wallet
Ita = a lolita that hurts to look at because they (or the coord) is so ugly
>>
>>10892672
It also hurts to look at because it's cringe and garish but okay.
>>
>>10892669
Weren’t you just one who was just throwing a temper tantrum and going ‘I AM BETTER THAN THE NORMIES’ as if that’s somehow an great achievement?
>Leave the hobby, you're a fucking loser.
Ah yes you’re clearly the grand poobah of itabags (despite not even being capable of writing it correctly) who gets to decide who is banished from putting weeb merch onto bags.
>>
>>10892669
I’d love to see your holy 8 blessed bags by the way.
>>
>>10892672
no they're not lol. maybe from a weeb western perspective but the ita is from the same place for both things and it means cringe.
>>
>>10892677
I am better the normies and you getting pressed about that is giving the impression that you're a normie pinbagger.

Either that or 12, because nobody older than middle school age says someone is worse than a normie because they like a type of base bag that you don't.
>>
>>10892688
I literally don’t own any enemal pins kek.
I’m guessing I was on the mark with that your bags are like 5 pieces of merch on a stupidly shaped bag with a frog emoji or something at the top though.
Still would love to see your 8 totally not normie bags though.
>>
>>10892691
Emojis? I'm not a 10 year old girl, nice try though.
>>
>>10892630
I think the book themed base bags can be cute.
>>
>>10892630
>Themed base bags are shit anyway
Nah. Theme bags can be cute, I think you're focusing on the particularly garish ones which yes are hideous, not gonna argue with you there. But picrel and >>10892699 aren't bad especially if it makes sense with the character. The difference is there's a balance, the ones you posted will generally overwhelm whatever you put into it. Who is going to be looking at your merch when it's in a furry dick bag?
>>
>>10892699
That is beautiful. I bet it'd look great with a larger character image like from a clear file surrounded by merch and decor.

>>10892712

>>
>>10892818
I honest to got haven't seen one with a window that wasn't fucking microscopic. I want itabags that have space to actually be itabags.
Best one is honestly the cloud itabag, the awkward shape gives it extra window space.
The salmon itabag may as well not even have a window at all. It's smaller than my own hand.
>>
new to itabags, are blue robotto bags any good?
>>
>>10892861
100% agree. I've always wondered why they make the purse part a smaller size than the window. Seems counter-intuitive

>>10892785
Hahaha, that's fair. I think it was cute in theory -- that seems to be the case with most kickstarter bags.
>>
Incoming mini dump. Was looking through taobao bag reviews, the Chinese really like their minimal merch + fuckload of decoration itabags. How do we feel about these? I think they are a good option for characters with little to no merch, an alternative to a repeat bag, but I find some hard to justify as itabags.

>>10893449

>>10893515
>those things are solid as hell.
Nonnie, are you trying to pin them through the material itself and not through the holes??
>>
>>10893521
I am trying to pin them through the holes. It's really rigid so getting the needle through the other way, especially after the keychain is attached, is... oh god, people actually do this? My grip strength must be fucking pathetic.
>>
>>10893493
i think the pretty bags are more based on the owner's preference rather than the character's personality, which is why they bother me, they're all basically the same regardless of the character.

>>

>100% agree. I've always wondered why they make the purse part a smaller size than the window. Seems counter-intuitive

THIS. I will never understand why they think putting a giant flat leather shape on top of a normal bag is a good idea. All I can imagine is it getting creased to hell in the future.
>>
>>10893531
This is why you gotta pick a character who has the same taste as you
>>
>>10893544
I actually tried curving my own safety pins without much luck. Will give the pre-curved ones a try, maybe I suck ass at hand-curving.
>>
This might be a bit too specific, but can anyone recommend me a hardy backpack style itabag? I've been looking on and off for months, but the only ones I've come across seem pretty flimsy or a themed (I'd rather something not themed for maximum versatility). I have to carry a lot of stuff around at cons due to medical shit, and backpack style bags are the least painful for me. If there aren't any particularly hardy ones, I'm tempted to just make my own, but thought I'd ask before committing.

It's a lot easier if you attach your fabric firmly (with hot glue, double sided tape etc, however you wanna do it) on all sides of the mesh, then just pin through the fabric instead of going through the mesh. If the fabric is taut enough it shouldn't droop or anything
>>
>>10893524
I don't like working with safety pins. If the merch allows it I opt to sew it unto the mesh with clear nylon thread.

These 手作り推しぬい are kind of all the rage lately so I gave it a try, taking the easy route with premade materials from Kiyohara. He turned out so cute that I just had to share him! mozart itabag is the funniest concept and I hope you are able to do it and I hope you share it here! I love when people have odd/unusual husbandos/waifus it's the best
>>
>>10894169
I'd do that if I wasn't constantly moving stuff around. My itabags are always gaining new pieces.
>>
i have a couple of stickers of my wife and want to incorporate em into my itabag, any suggestions? would there be a way to turn stickers into pins or something?
>>
>>10895249
There are protective sleeves or plastic you can use to cover them and use like an insert to tuck in between other merch: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802982603186.html
and blank can badges could work if they happen to match the stickers happen to match the standard sizes. I feel like it would be hard to make it look nice if its more stickers than other merch.
>>10894331
This is really cute anon, good luck with the rest of your bag.

What do you do with your itabag once it wears down? Throw it in the trash? Resell it for pennies? Use it for house decor? My heart wego itabag's leather is all scratched after nearly a decade of service
>>
>>10897873
I find selling them tedious, so I donate them if they are still in a useable condition and I don't want it at all anymore. I would only throw them away if they are beyond salvaging.
>>
>>10897873
you could sew patches on it in whatever theme you have gone with
>>
>>10897873
There's plenty of people who restore vintage leather bags online and it doesn't look difficult or tool/material intensive. If you still have a desire for the bag, I'd attempt restoration or I'd thrift it to make it someone else's problem lol

Has anyone used Wacky Buttons to make your own pins? If so, how were results and is it legit?

Oop, you right! I read leather in op's reply and assumed, but now that you pointed that out, it clicked. To the thrift it goes then

fuck off, chinese style itabags slay while being cost effective, i'll take an itabag with pretty decor and a few selected pictures over a totebag with 300 badges with the same fucking face in a row. unless you're doing a whole itabag armor for the bit that shit is ugly for bags

these are my fave compositions, the holo stickers also fit nicely on Lumen's composition, really great stuff

I used them a long time ago, like pre pandemic. Their print quality was good but the pin itself felt flimsy, like it could break with too much manhandling but they never actually did.

Why do people like ita bags? They look so incredibly cheesy and every person I’ve seen wearing one looks like a woke liberal or autistic.

Itabags aren't supposed to slay. Stop creaming your pants over "MUH AESTHETIC".
Also the image you posted isn't an itabag.
>>
I'm doing my first ever itabag here. Going with a general Dragon Ball theme because I'm a long-time fan and I had some DB stuff that I wasn't doing anything else with. The bag is made by a company called "STEAMEDBUN", which I got from Amazon. It's canvas and seems pretty sturdy, I'll probs go with leather for future bags because it's a little nicer; but I think this is fine for my first bag. On the advice of another anon, everything is secured to the insert with clear fishing line. Obviously it's a work-in-progress, I'm gonna eventually fill out the bottom half of the window and do a bit on the outside of the bag as well. I've actually got a con next weekend, so a real focus is gonna be finding more things for the bag.

I agree there should be a term for these slay bags to separate them from the classic itabags, I mean we still get fucking ugly pinbags posted in itabag groups so the chinese style bags are not going anywhere
>>
>Your current itabag/fandom fashion project(s)
I'm pulling pieces together for my Call of Duty husbando, but looking for a base in the right color has been kind of tricky.
On that note, if anyone knows where the bag from >>10890521 is from, let me know. That's probably the closest to the color I'm aiming for.

>Your favorite itabag that you've seen in the wild or online
The only one I've seen in the wild was a few years ago, Kirby-themed, and rather cute!
>>10890519 is also a favorite, and almost gives me inspo to build an UT bag for someone.

>Dream itabag if cost, reality, etc. weren't factors
A Rurouni Kenshin bag is a dream of mine, especially since the remake means it'll be easier to find pieces for one. Just kind of worried about people being dickheads about it, since the mangaka is a nonce and people are so cancel-happy.
>>

>Just kind of worried about people being dickheads about it, since the mangaka is a nonce and people are so cancel-happy
if you spend money on first hand official merch giving money to a nonce with terabytes of cp you should expect people to eat you alive. I'd do it if he were dead
>>
>>10901762
This. Anon’s the dickhead here. Also, “cancel culture” is a right wing myth.
>>
>>10901823
>>10901762
AYRT; there's a reason why that bag is a dream (and why I make it a point to get my RRK merch secondhand.) I only brought up the remake because I've seen a couple items pop up on Mercari that I like that were made for it.
>Also, “cancel culture” is a right wing myth.
After spectating Tumblr callout drama back at its peak over crimes like 'drawing characters a little paler than normal', I'm not willing to take any chances.
>>
>>10901932
Okay but literally no one gets cancelled/called out outside of a loud minority on tumblr/twitter and in the imaginations of right wingers. Touch grass
>>
>>10901932
>After spectating Tumblr callout drama back at its peak over crimes like 'drawing characters a little paler than normal', I'm not willing to take any chances.
pedophiles don't get cancelled enough, shadman is still alive and kickin like a cockroach and so are many like him. if you're buying second hand or fanmade you should be fine, though you're still gonna be a walking billboard for a pedophile's franchise. I've gotten into stuff because I saw cool merch in bags, it'd be hilarious if somebody wanted to know more about Ruroni Kenshin thanks to your bag only to find out about the author
having to justify yourself to anybody who knows is gonna be annoying since you seem to care about getting cancelled by randos. doesn't seem to be worth the effort and money for now
>>
>>10901823
thats what you think til you get canceled nonny. just wait a few years, eventually you'll fall behind in (current thing) studies and it's all over

>>10901730
just do it and if someone points it out, say you don't support the author. they only make like a hundredth of a cent to the dollar on official merch sold through their publisher.
>>
>>10902041
>they only make like a hundredth of a cent to the dollar on official merch sold through their publisher.

"Oh, I only gave a LITTLE money to the pedophile so it's alright" will make you sound even worse.
>>
>>10902041
I might eventually, I only ever had some loose plans; never really decided if I wanted a group bag or to dedicate to a singular character (and that was split between 3 of them, too, so that would've been interesting if I didn't pick the easy option in the protag himself.)
But in the meanwhile, I have the COD bag I mentioned earlier and a themed pinbag I'm putting some time into.

Any inspo or ideas of what to do with repetition bags on the inside of the bag itself? Hanging things outside is a must, but I feel like some decoration could work on the inside without taking too much attention from the merch itself.
Also, does anyone make large square bags or are the big zakka rectangles the only option?
>>
>>10902076
smarter way to do this is just to say you bought all the merch second-hand, even if it's a lie
>>
>>10905941
smartest way is just don't give money to nonces
>>
>>10905938
I've seen smaller square bags but not large ones. Do you have any examples of people attaching acrylic key holders safely on the outside? I worry mine will get super damaged.

For my repeat bags I've only made character cutouts or used some lace or flower trims as filler if the backing is visible from the side.
>>
>>10906124
Safely is the keyword. I've seen a couple but they're just clipped on there, I suspect it's just for the photo. Koreans seem to do more repeat bags than anyone else, the tag is 이타백 so you can try checking it out.

>>10905938
Lots of baggers use clear files, flowers, lights, background paper, or relevant decor. I've seen playing cards, photo cards, stickers, and ribbons. Honestly, just look at this thread for some inpso

Where do you guys offload all your extra merch? I have a ton of badges and a few rare pieces of merch I’m looking to sell, but it isn’t for a series that’s super popular at the moment, so I’m not sure if I could just drop it all on eBay and call it a day.
>>
>>10906543
I sell stuff on Mercari.

What are the odds that I could sell an ita bag that’s already put together? I found one I made but I don’t care for the series anymore

Kind of depends on the character, but I'd say your chances are pretty good.

Itabag came from itasha. And it means cringe/painful to look at, not painful to carry/for wallet.

>>
Any base bags with patchwork/quilt desgns?
>>
>>10907571
it didn't come from itasha, both came from itai, which means "ouch" in japanese, and is japanese slang for cringe, same thing ita comes from in the lolita comm. anon's distinction is just plain bull and trying to spare her feelings i assume. itabags are supposed to be cringe and off putting, it's part of the charm. side note, cutesy chinese itabags are only cutesy because they think ita means it's lolita related since they don't have context and ita is in the word lolita.
>>
>>10907609
The itai in itasha came from ouch/cringe. And then after ita cars their were ita shirts and itabags. Learn cringe history, zoomer.
>>
Does anyone get creative block when working on an itabag? I have the pieces, deco, and the base bag ready to go, but when it's time to lay out all the pieces I draw a complete blank or hate whatever I'm putting down
>>
Maybe a silly question, but has anyone ever taken a bag through TSA? Do they get weird about all the items and pins and whatnot?
>>
>>10907616
NTA but they are correct ita anything is from itai because it's ugly or cringe, they didn't stem from itasha, itasha didn't even mean cringe car originally.
>In the 1980s, when Japan was at the zenith of its economic might, there were many luxury import cars in Tokyo. Among them, the "itasha"—originally Japanese slang meaning an imported Italian car—was the most desired. Since then, itasha (as the decorated vehicle) was derived from combining the Japanese words for itai (痛い, painful, cringe, embarrassing) and sha (車, vehicle).[3] Itai means "painful", with additional senses of "painfully embarrassing" "cringeworthy", "painful for the wallet" due to the high costs involved, or "painful to look at" (an eyesore). The name is also a pun for Italian cars (イタリア車, Itaria-sha), truncated in Japanese slang as Itasha (イタ車).
Learn your weebshit and sit down before incorrectly judging others.
