I'm interested in the HizakiXKaya show but they still haven't posted schedules/tickets so I don't think I'll be going since no time to plan. Sucks since I've been listening to Hizaki for a while but I need more time to plan things if I'm travelling to another country.
>>
>>10899522
How do you get into the shows there? Do you have to buy tickets in advance.
>>
>>10899521
>yes
>gonna do jjk photoshoots
>yuta okkostu, possibly Ralsei, and dunno the third one
>Hope I can actually make new friends this time around.
Husband is gonna be in Deathmatch this year again so imma be wandering about
>>
>>10899521
Almost every one I see post isn't in the cool cids cosplay clique club and has incel perspective. Any one from within have a perspective on what the scene is like here of people that actually know how to make their own fun? Is it just a bunch of parents bringing their kids? gimme the scoop
>>
>>10903446
I dunno I thought it was fun. There's good panels, the hololive panels the last few years were lots of fun. It's pretty big so there's plenty to do for most people.
>>
>>10899521
anime boston is hiring? or trying to get free volunteers for their event

has any one ever applied? what was your experience?
>>
Is it too late for me to make an amv? Could be fun

fuck the retards that run this con, they're a bunch of covid bitches. i bet over half the staff will be masked up and deathly afraid of the breath of the attendees

cope lol. looks like i was spot on and hit a nerve. you might not remember or care about the way this con has treated people up to last year, but not everyone is solely viewing it like a place to focus on getting their dick wet like a desperate lowlife the way you apparently do
>>
>>10904286
You're probably some rich Republican trustfund wack job that moved up to NH 2 years ago. I'll keep my dick out so you can suck it.
>>
Enough of this bullshit. Whens the schedule getting posted?
>>
>>10904328
It’s too early now. We’re still a whole month away from the con. Most years they post the schedule only about one week beforehand, maybe sooner if we’re lucky. So you can start whining about it taking too long around, say, March 20th this year. Otherwise it sucks not having it yet but they’re on the usual schedule.
>>
What's with the lack of "community" for this con? I feel like these threads are abysmally slow compared to other con threads, and posts on other soc med are far and few in between. With its size, I figured there'd be more discussion everywhere.
>>
>>10904342
I dunno about anybody else, but I’ve been going every year since I was a senior in high school in 2007, but I’ve only ever had a cursory interest in the threads here or any place else online because I was going with a private friendgroup. In the past couple years that friendgroup has severely lost interest, in part because they’re aging out, but also because covid kinda killed the magic.
>>
>>10904342
I e only been going the last few years. I have no idea what to compare it to. I heard it was more fun before that kid OD,d on sketchy bad earl 2010s molly and some people got busted for smoking weed in their room lol
>>
>>10904356
It does really suck not having a proper late night dance/rave. Boston’s night scene seems kinda shitty right now too, so I don’t think it’s even worth looking for someplace to go off site.
>>
>>10904359
In the past were there ever parties at like The Paradise or anything?
>>
>>10904361
Definitely not in any official capacity associated with the con. Several years ago I think I went to some kinda club where some con attendees were gathered unofficially, but I’ve totally forgotten where it was or even how I heard about it, and I’m not sure if they had a yearly tradition of it or if it was just something somebody threw together for that year. I’m sure there are probably regular parties that go on like that one, but they don’t seem very publicly advertised, you hear about them when you know somebody that knows somebody.
>>
>>10904359
>>10904361
it's a bit surprising that there are no nearby venues jumping to host/advertise something since the con itself apparently doesn't want people having fun over liabilities
>>10904302
but then again, we do have "people" like this attending so it's no surprise that they don't want to police the depraved sexual deviants all night. still, i feel like they should be able to pay for an extra security detail by charging for separate admission.
>>
>>10904369
Well King’s bowling alley probably doesn’t have to host the 21+ lounge, so at least that’s nice of them. Trouble is, that lounge is pretty lame if you’re not going with people.
>>
>>10904376
I think I walked in and walked out last year.
>>
no hololive this year?
>>
>>10904403
Same. I went in with two or three friends and it looked like there were only a few tables or seats to sit at, and they were all occupied by people who looked very comfortable and clearly weren’t getting up any time soon. There was a lot of empty room in the middle of the space, but nobody seemed to be milling around in it. Also it was too loud for us to hear each other talk. My friends and I had been walking around all day and really didn’t feel like standing around awkwardly, so we just turned around and left to find some place else. It looked like there were maybe people who may have lined up early and scored those seats who wound up having a good time, but wandering in in the middle like that didn’t turn out so good for us. I’ve also gone in there alone but it doesn’t seem to be a place where people just wander up to strangers and make friends with new people, so I also turned around and left that time too.
>>
>>10904406
I'm surprised more people don't gather at one of the bars near Fenway
>>
>>10904408
Most people don't like being swarmed by homeless and avoiding piles of puke everywhere
>>
>>10904411
Have you been there? It's really not bad.
>>
>>10904411
The fens arent that bad but its off season also a lot of bars have dead ass closed and the remaining unnecessarily bougie restaurants are not going to cater to an anime crowd. theres a closer yard house if you wanna stick to a basic.
If your looking for nightlife on Easter weekend good luck

Bit of a late reply because this con always releases the useful info at the last minute, but this was a helpful announcement they just made.
>>
>>10904445
What's the difference between a pass and a ticket?
>>
>>10904435
The flagn is closed? What's the yard house. I don't think the city is that Catholic anymore.
>>
>>10904526
> Tickets require additional payment to participate. The charity Formal Ball and Semi-Formal Ball tickets can be purchased in advance in the online pre-registration portal. Proceeds from the dances are donated to the National MS Society. More information can be found [on the con website]

>Passes are free but must be reserved in advance by picking them up the day of at Programming Operations (Hynes 101). Hours for Programming Operations can be found [on the website].

>Workshops may require an additional fee to be paid at the door. (Most payment types accepted, cash preferred.)
>>
>>10904528
I never understood the passes. Like last year there were passes to get into the hololive panels but then they just started letting anyone in. I don't get it.
>>
>>10904542
It sorta seems like it makes sense to have ppl reserve a timeslot for the maid cafe, instead of leaving it totally open and letting the space get swarmed.

I haven’t been to speed friending, but from what I understand of the concept that is also a situation where the organizers can probably plan things better if they at least have a number of the people who plan to be coming.

Dunno what was up with the holo live stuff. But it was clearly very popular, so I suppose I can get why they’d decide to try to be better safe than sorry when they were in the planning stages.
>>
>>10904555
Makes sense. Thanks anon
>>
>>10903446
can confirm
i am a parent and will be bringing both my kids, they are stubborn toddlers and refuse to wear the cosplay i made for them
>>
>>10904706
Aww that's cute, they'll come around.
I remember at a small con I went to one of the game shows had a girl probably like 13 on stage said she has been going to cons her whole life, that's pretty cool of her parents.
>>
is the afterparty at Kings again this year? it sucked last year, they definitely either weren't prepared or just didn't give a shit
>>
>>10904887
Probably, wasn't much of an after party. Pretty sure it wrapped up before alot of the panels.
>>
>>10904887
I wouldn’t really call it an after party- it’s not very late. They call it the “21+ lounge.” And yeah, it is more accurate to call it a lounge than a party, because there isn’t much partying. But then, also. I didn’t have a very easy time lounging there either. I remember it being very loud. I forget if that was because the music was cranked up high.

You want an actual after party, you gotta organize one yourself.
>>
>>10904912
Are there usually big room parties? I didn't get any party vibes the last few years I was there
>>
>>10904914
Definitely went to a few last year, usually if you hang around the sheraton lobby you can find people trying to party pretty quick.
>>
>>10904916
That the hotel connected to venue?
I stayed there last year I figured all the floors would be bumping.andnthatbwas far from the case I barely so anyone on our floor.
>>
>>10904921
Nah, most of the parties happen at the Hilton cuz the AB staff are hounding the Sheraton shutting down anyone who makes any noise after 10pm
>>
>>10904923
Why the hell do they do that?
So I shouldn't have a party in room if I'm at the Hilton?
>>
>>10904926
Nah it’s the Sheraton that are sticklers. And they do it because they hate us because we scare their normie guests, but they are locked in a contract to host us and can’t do anything.

To be fair, some homestuck cosplayers completely ruined their hot tub one year by clogging it with body paint. The hotel did not replace the hot tub, having it uninstalled probably cost thousands.

Last year I saw a Sheraton janitor have such a look of despair on his face when I asked him to set out a wet floor sign because I slipped on some vomit while exiting one of their lobby rest rooms. They probably have had staff quit over having to work that weekend. I almost can’t blame them for shushing the room parties.
>>
>>10904928
Yeah but an anime con is nothing compared to like a 3 night Phish run. I've seen fuckin hotels absolutely destroyed there.
>>
>>10904405
If they do have it it'll likely be the last thing to be confirmed, but I'm not getting my hopes up because their main expo in JP is two weeks beforehand (and even the ENs are playing hype squad for Cover). If we get anything it's not gonna be much.

This is my consolation prize for missing out on ANYC, and I'll be happy if we get anything at all.
>>
>>10904931
I know I'm kinda bummed, they're what I initially got me to pull the trigger and go a few years ago. Been going since.
>>
>>10904931
You don't need a consolation prize for missing midcon.
>>
>>10904952
Animenyc looks pretty bussin, I love reppin Boston but I ain't gonna shit on a con I haven't been to. Yankees suck though.
>>
>>10904952
Only reason I say that is because Hololive was making it a big deal last year. At least I got to go to the LA concert and AX.
>>
>>10904965
Oh sick you went to the concert. How was that live. I figure they're gonna do an easy coast show at NYC at some point.
>>
>>10904959
I went for the first couple years. Got sick of how corporate it was and how it only caters to the most generic of shounen fanboys.
>>
>>10904981
I feel like that's 99 percent of cons with Boston included
>>
>>10904968
It was a good time, certainly a lot of energy in that theater that you can't get from watching a stream.

In any event, if you're going to AB and see Keima Katsuragi, make sure to say hi.
>>
>>10905031
Will do, same goes to you with Big Boss he'll buy you a beer and a smoke.
>>
So we need to buy tickets for this right?
How far is the symphony hall? Is it in the theatre district?
>>
>>10905088
How far from what? The con center? It’s close, but it doesn’t really matter, since this says it’s like sixth months after the con.
Symphony has got its own T stop, though, it’s very easy to get to.
>>
>>10905112
Oh fuck I didn't look at the date
>>
>>10905088
Symphony hall is like 2 blocks from the Pru, or if your a lazy bastard you can take the train 1 stop
>>
>>10905027
Not really desu. Definitely partially a New Yorker thing since those fuckers love their DBZ and walking around in their $5 Akatsuki cloak and calling it cosplay.
You've got those types at most cons, but nowhere else will it be the majority.
>>
>>10905132
I was always under the impression that ANYC is very exclusive with the limited capacity and all.
>>
>>10905152
>exclusive

Hi Animeboston is a mediocre convention with shady people who attend it. They consist of druggies and the mentally ill. Folks attending should practice proper discretion. You are better off going to Otakon or another DC convention. They are safer spaces and a better time will be had by all.

Is speed friending in more demand than the concerts?
>>
>>10906936
Probably not. My theory is they only ask people to get passes for speed friending so they can have a better idea of the headcount ahead of time. Speed friending i think requires a little organization. They might administer handouts, and they wanna know how many to print. And they might need to arrange tables and chairs. It helps to know if a dozen people are planning to show up, or 30, or fifty.

Concerts are usually just a big open space. You que up, staff manages the que, they admit first come first serve, and then they cap it off after they reach capacity. Relatively simple. They don’t need a rough count of how many are gonna want to attend, presumably they’ll be ready for it to reach capacity. And provide standing room in case there’s still a bit of que after.

The concert space will probably have more room and more staff allocated to it than speed friending.

Looking at the news feed, last year early registration at a discount was available right after the con, for about a week. Then registration reopened in November. Hotel bookings opened in October. Other stuff like tickets to the dances and applications for contests and stuff were announced when they became available at various points throughout the year. I think a lot of stuff went up around January. Of course, the timeline might look a little different this coming year because the con will be in late May instead of March.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out. Is it like Colossal where you get fucked if you don't register immediately or do I have some time to deliberate?
>>
>>10907281
That weekend is tough, I decided to go last minute a few years ago when it was on memorial day and payed up the ass and had to jump around to multiple random hotels.
There's usually just a lot going on in the city that weekend. Boston Calling is usually going on, Red Sox were in town last time, I think there was other stuff going on too.
>>
>>10907281
Hotel bookings closed about a month ago, but I think registration might still be open. Theoretically if you found some place to stay off site, you could still go to this year’s. I think I’ve known people in the past that just show up and buy their pass at the door, though I don’t recommend it because I think there’s no sense wasting time waiting in line, and it’s usually cheaper to get it done early.

Again, there’s no guarantee it won’t be different next year. But I think it’s usually pretty safe to take a little time, you don’t have to jump on it same day or anything.
>>
>>10907282
>>10907283
Awesome, thanks for the info. I definitely can't go to this year's because I'd need to get a flight (and also I'm gonna blow my budget at Huntsville Expo in a couple of weeks) but I do know some people in the area who I could meet up with if I go next year. I'll definitely keep an eye out for news about badges and booking.
>>
>>10907279

Anyone ever been to the slumber party? What really is it? Just a bunch of sweaty guys sitting around or do people just stick to their groups?
>>
>>10907329
I remember there being a bunch of bean bag chairs and some small simple crafts set out like coloring book pages. The atmosphere was quiet, chill, and friendly. But it was also a little awkward and boring, so I didn’t stay long. If you’re good at making new friends, it seems like a place where there will be some people receptive to that.

Then I recommend speed friending. I haven’t been to speed friending, but I think it sounds like it was designed for that purpose.

Here’s the description:

Are there any good restaurants/bars people hang out at tonight?
>>
>>10907600
For tonight, if you like Ramen I'd hit the Hokkaido place very close to the hotel because that usually fills up even when there isn't a con happening because there's not really any space in there. Supposed to be good, but I've never had the patience to get in.

Me and my friends usually go to the Summer Shack and the bar next to it for the con at least once. I'd probably avoid stuff on Newbury Street because it's very expensive there. I guess a good all rounder place would be Boston Burger Company more towards Berkley side of things. Copley has cheaper fast food stuff like Raisin Canes, and I think an Irish pub I've never been to between there and the con. I used to live close enough to the area but I went to Fenway for bars, probably doing that this time too. Bukowski is the one that I saw promoted with the con in the past so they might have specials or deals?

Sozz if too much info OPL

There’s been good stuff, but it all fills up and it’s not spread out enough or timed right to fit the overflow of people. More stuff this year requires you to line up an hour early just to get in, even for mediocre things.

I'm getting too old for this shit.
Maybe I should have gotten a hotel instead of driving in. I used to live in Boston and Back Bay in the before times. Was much easier then.
Ended up taking too long to get back from dinner and missed the cutoff for the concert. Went home early after getting an autograph and briefly hitting the dealers room again for a booth I missed earlier.
Gonna try to make it back in today for some Sunday shopping and another signing.
Oh and it didn't help that a college friend I was gonna meet there was home sick with the plague virus.

Damn, I missed you. I was playing with the dude who dressed up as the red dragon for hours and once the lady dressed up as Ichihime said that we get a majsoul prize, all four of us agreed to only go for baimans to get those prizes.

oh but hey I'm looking to play at a local mahjong club, was it northeastern uni? I was told the MIT one was students only but the northeastern university one was unofficial but allowed non-students.

Because of what happened in 2012 (https://forums.animeboston.com/viewtopic.php?t=15328 and https://www.bostonherald.com/2012/04/24/bad-draw-for-hotel-anime-party/). The con attempted to bring back the informal dance in 2013 off site (because the Sheraton's entertainment license was on probation, and the con couldn't afford to anger the Sheraton-lose the hotel venue space), but couldn't because the city didn't want to divert resources during Memorial Day weekend, then tried again in 2014 but the didn't get the outside help they needed, so it was easier to keep the informal dance suspended indefinitely in subsequent years.

This was my first ever convention, and I’m honestly pretty happy with how it went. Everyone was so nice and super friendly! There were so many amazing costumes and Lolita coords. Plus a bunch of the panels were great. I’ll definitely be back next year.

You can contract Human Papillomavirus through your feet. I contracted it in college from showering barefoot.

I went this year on a total whim and I had a pretty decent time. Last time I went the food court was still around, so it was interesting seeing what has and hasn't changed. The whole console games and arcade being separate (consoles also closed early) was a little odd. Glad I was mostly power napping during the afternoon and dodged most of the nut-to-butt crowds. Overall not bad, would go back again just to have Eataly breakfast again.

I went to a couple, most seem to get shut down by midnight either by a wandering janny or noise complaints. Hotels were definitely anal about non-guests getting into the hotel. Even our room got hit with a noise complaint despite only have a small group.

One of my boys said you were the best armor cosplay at the entire con.
The rest of us either agree, or put the Helldiver right next to you.

Ah I saw you in artists alley but couldn't get to you in the crowd. Good job my guy.

On that topic the alley seemed better this year than previous years for some reasons

Last time I was at AB there was someone selling cool posters of Star Trek ships. I was hoping they'd be there this year but no dice. I did get this beautiful 2B print.

Cute plushie. Thats a really nice poster yeah, I was super happy to see all the gilded prints done this year. Not a huge fan of the holographic ones but some aren't bad. This set of 10 gilded ghibli cards was amazing though so I was happy to grab it.

I haven't been to AB in 10 years
>Artists alley so crowded and staff on the loudspeakers screaming like the Sistine chapel
>Felt like a lot less to do, way too many people there on Saturday
>I ended up in a room party lmao

Feels crazy that the last AB I went to there was homestuck cosplayers. Now that was replaced by gacha

I really appreciate it. I'm still sore, almost a week later, but it was worth it.

The dude who was wheeling this fucking thing around said something so glowie it was unbelievable.

I saw like 3 groups of homestuck. Also go Friday if you only have 1 day unless there's certain panels you want the crowd is much more manageable.
