Post mecha boys, preferably vintage
Never stop...
What did Tomino mean by this?
SHOWZEIT
>>3875088I need to sit down and watch big O someday to see what the fuss is about.
>>3875091The first season is extremely good and has amazing mech action, it's one of my all time favorite shows. 2nd season suffers from a switch to early digital animation and the story isn't as good because Cartoon Network forced the creator to finish the story but it's not terrible. Schwarzwald is consistently great throughout both seasons.A lot of people will tell you to watch the dub because muh Steve Blum but I disagree with them because I don't really think he does a great job and dub Dorothy sounds terrible. Dub Schwarzwald is fantastic though, I recommend looking up his scenes on YouTube after watching the show.
>>3875158Best boy.

>>3885679>>3885679Sis this is a mecha thread>but titans are biological mec-No
>>3885681The titans are biological mecha
>>3885681How do you feel about Evangelion? ...which this isn't, but Sakamoto is doing the character designs for the new Grendizer anime
Gundam boys are cute but i have a hard time trying to get into it. Can't help but see it as a commercial for the toys and also all the sequels and spin-offs make me lose interest in trying to get into it. I know I'm probably wrong for feeling this way but i can't help it.
>>3886154>Can't help but see it as a commercial for the toysIt is.
>>3886154Gundam ends up getting really artsy. Char's Counterattack is a fucking masterpiece. Victory Gundam gets pretty artistic. Turn A Gundam is also a goddamn masterpiece. And G no Reconguista is wonderfully subtle and probably the most refined and lovely show in the series. This is all stuff directed by the series creator. There's some spinoff stuff that people like too, like 0080, but I see that stuff as missing the point slightly. I cannot emphasize enough how much of a masterpiece Char's Counterattack is. It took me several viewings to digest it too. I actually hated it when I first watched it, but then it opens up and you see what Tomino was doing. My heart hurts ever time.
>>3886154Watch 0080: War in the Pocket or Victory Gundam if you want the most blackpilled entries of the U.C. No prerequisites required. If nothing else, you'll realize some of the creators also dislike the toy commercial aspect of the franchise.
>>3886156Well that's a bummer
>>3886356It is, but it’s better than you think.Like yea it’s corporate media, and a toy commercial, but it’s more than that too.Manages to say something worthwhile
Ryomers
>>3886434I'll give it a chance for the cute boys
>>3886534If you want to kind of speedrun it, the original series has 3 compilation movies, then Char's Counterattack is sort of the conclusion to some character arcs from the original. https://youtu.be/E_s9yZVev8w?feature=shared
>>3886548By "speedrun it" I mean that will give you an overview of Gundam's flavor, and a taste of what it can be at peak artistry. Some of the cutest boys and gayest fujobait is in other series, but that's a good starting point. Char and Amuro are more hot than cute in Counterattack.
>>3886556>Some of the cutest boys and gayest fujobait is in other serieswhich series?
>>3886731hahah oh geez>Zeta Gundam- protagonist is a hotheaded cutie with a girls name who gets flustered when people bully him- some fanservice (also official art of him posing nude floating around: sometimes posted on /m/)- Zeta Gundam is a sequel to the first Gundam series so you kind of need to watch the original to know what's going on>Double Zeta- handholding in the first episode- bigger cast, some cute side characters- sequel to Zeta: ditto on watching the previous series> Turn A Gundam *- protagonist is a trap and a man falls for him. This is a major subplot- crossdressing scene- /ss/ implications if you're into that> Gundam Wing *- probably the series with the gayest vibe: picrel - 5 boys drop to Earth in Gundam and cause havok- also one of the most nonsensical and silliest series: watch with English dub for maximum comedy> Gundam 00 *- 2000's retread of Gundam Wing: 5 boys in Gundams- a bit less fun, more serious and political, but in part 2 there's another actually gay character> Iron Blooded Orphans *- story starts with a private military group on Mars that forcibly conscripts dozens of male orphans: story follows these boys/young men- protagonist and buddy are shippable, and lots of /cm/ material in the side cast: including one gay and his straight crush- main villain was a boytoy as part of his backstory- second gayest after Gundam Wing> G no Reconguista *- personally, I think it has the cutest males. Not super gay, but a very lighthearted and fun adventure> Hathaway- not too much gay, except an very cute antagonist pilot and his commanding officer who carries a riding crop. I found them a bit shippable- direct sequel to Char's Counterattack- the most current Gundam movie* is a stand alone series that you probably can watch without watching anything elseAnd that about covers it, minus a few I haven't seen. Still recommend starting like this >>3886548Char and Amuro are shippable, and the original is worthwhile
hell, that's a lot of Gundam >>3886759hit character limit too.I should say, this list was coloured slightly by personal taste, although I think these are generally agreed to be the series with the most /cm/ contentSome of the ones I haven't seen are AGE and the Build Figher's series, which are more for young children. There are some others that are more serious, action oriented, or political, which you could argue have /cm/ guys, but which don't really have anything gay going on
>>3886759good recommendations, ty. i’ve already watched the original gundam and am working on turn a, also watched war in the pocket. you could make a case for al and bernie if you’re a shotacon, but im not so i won’t. i tried zeta but got bored for some reason and watched aura battler dunbine and legend of the two wolves and five star star stories instead, sort of getting away from gundam. also, while it’s not mecha, ai no kusabi is great
>>3886759Gundam wing sounds the most appealing to me
Simon is surprisingly underrated
>>3886556>Some of the cutest boys and gayest fujobait is in other seriesAs much as I'm aware of this, none of the later ships(and canon homos) in any Gundam or mecha series hit as hard as Charmuro for me. There's something special about their dynamic that can't be recreated.I've resorted to doing wanikani reps just so I can read all the doujins and fanfics.
>>3886801Yea I kinda feel that. They are the OG. I guess a factor for me is how many women are involved, like Quatre and Trowa comes across as so gay with no love triangle factor. >>3886774Yea you could make a case for WitP, but it makes me too sad. Bernie is handsome>>3886793https://youtu.be/-2Yvbv5hVPc?feature=sharedIf u r the anon that was asking, it's also kinda peak toy commercial, but it's just so funPicrel is from Hathaway
>>3886795basedttgl came out when i was in high school and i would daydream about being simone and having a crush on kamina and then hooking up with him
>>3886823
Canard is underated
>>3886916I like Prayer and found his fight with Canard to be genuinely gripping. Shame nobody read the Astray manga series.
>>3886759Honestly somehow I'm still not convinced on Gundam lol. I'm just going to force myself to watch it when i have the time and see for myself.
>>3886801Char and Amuro are the ones i find the cutest and the main reason i want to get into Gundam.
>>3886948I mean, at the end of the day it's a shonen series and toy commercials. It has a lot of fujo appeal, and manages to be powerfully nuanced at times, in spite of it all, but if you can't stomach a shonen series in the first place, maybe it's just not your thing!>image limit reachedwell damn, new bread?
Why is Mecha a dead genre
>>3887118That's a leading question, dum dum. *bonk*Also we had Pluto last year. Hathaway sequel in the works. Doan's Island. G no Reconguista movies were finished. The Orbital Children. Synduality Noir. And that's only counting the stuff I paid attention to. To answer more seriously, it's a different era. Current generations haven't had to deal with the reality of war very much. Global culture is moving past the traumas of WW2. Which is arguably a good thing, of course, but the psychological pressures of that kind of conflict do get channeled into art.Everything is a bit lower energy these days, which is fine, when you consider it from another angle. Maybe there's less demand for hot blooded mecha war action, but maybe that's because it's less necessary for the current psyche.
