>a samurai of all people having an existential crisis for killing people that tried to kill him in the first place
What did Genndy smoke when making season 5?
>>
>>143335718
It was his first time.
>>
>>143335742
So? Samurais are supposed to kill people.
>>
>>143335718
Genndy legit forgot Jack fought and presumably killed people in the original run. He somehow thought Jack only ever fought robots.
>>
I can honestly see Jack not killing anybody up until he gets transported to the future. After that, theres just no way. Genndy didn't care about anything.
>>
>>143335718
Season 5 was contrived
>>
>>143335766
Yeah and he couldn't handle that on top of having survivors guilt/depression.
>>
>>143335772
Jack's sword had censorship magic that made anyone he cuts with it turn into robots in the first four seasons. Season five happened because the channel hop broke the spell.
>>
has Jack literally not killed anyone until Season 5?

was it just robot racism 24/7?
>>
>>143335742
his first retcon?
>>
>>143335937
It was the magic censorship spell. If Jack cut a sandwich with his sword, the sandwich would turn into a robot sandwich.
>>
>>143335949
Yep.
>>
>>143335742
i'm pretty sure jack has killed, even then his mission is to kill aku anyway so he shouldn't have that hangup
>>
>>143335974
They're just reeeeaaaaally convincing robots.
>>
Jack was the only actual person in the future. Everyone else was just robots. It's robots all the way down.
>>
>>143335974
He knocked them out
>>
>>143335718
>>143335772
Was it that, or was Jack just fed up with killing people?
>>
>>143336039
>he knocked out the russian guy with bombs, just really really weak bombs that were expecting to kill Jack
>he also uses the back of his blade, notice how there is no blood?
>hurrr udrrrrrrrr
>>
>>143336039
hi genndy
>>
>>143335718
It was the first time Jack killed a defenseless innocent.
>>
Did we aver hear about what happened to Lulu? Sweet thing.
>>
>>143335974
>>143335718
To add to this, Jack also had a flashback in the original run admiring the Lone Wolf and Cub cameo killing those guys on the bridge. Plus, Jack was shown treating innocent robots, aliens, and monsters the same way he treated innocent humans, so him making a big deal out of cutting down humans enemies is pretty much incompatible with the moral compass of the Jack shown in the prior seasons. Making Jack being upset he killed someone was a really, really, really dumb decision.
>>
>>143335718
that pose tho
>>
>>143335718
He was huffing concentrated modern moralism. And wanted some cheap drama.
>>
>>143335974
Being fair from his perspective wasn't that decades ago? Maybe he just forgot about those jobbers? Have we considered that he may be suffering from dementia?

It was the first time that Jack killed an innocent being, he doesn't care if they attack him and he has to defend himself, he cares if he does unjustified harm to an innocent person.
>>
>>143335718
Because it started out as a kid's show. You'd understand why him taking his first life would be a big deal if you weren't media illiterate.
>>
>>143337646
It's literally not the first time he's killed people though.
>>
>>143337619
In what way is self defense unjustified harm?
>>
>>143335742
You mean except for the Viking that died and went to Valhalla at the end of their fight, right?
>>
>>143337619
they were arguably the strongest enemies he ever encountered, probably better than the imakandi.
>>
>>143337734
>In what way is self defense unjustified harm?
It is unjustifiable for Jack to kill a being that is being mentally controlled, because for him to kill an innocent being in any situation does not fit into his definition of justice.
>>
>>143337904
That is some next level shit posting.
>>
Dude, it's Jack. He doesn't need to kill some losers. I think people forget just how broken Jack is.
>>
>>143337904
kys my man
>>
>>143337773
It's literally okay because he wanted to die and asked Jack to kill him it's literally not the same thing as he was also trapped in a golem body by Aku so it was doubly ok you just don't get it.
>>
>>143337995
>>143338050
Ok couple of idiots, tell me when Jack killed an innocent being who didn't want to fight him.
>>
>>143335718
Why did everyone get upset that Ashi faded from existence when the entire premise of the show was to
>undo the future that is aku
?
>>
>be trained to kill people
>don't kill any people
>kill robots instead
>do this for several straight decades
>suddenly one of the "robots" you just killed turns out to be a person
You'd be shocked too. If anything he recovered from the initial shock and resolved that he was okay with killing the rest of them pretty damn fast.

Because Jack had multiple oppurtunities during the entire show's run to go back, but often missed them because he wouldn't abandon those that needed his help. In the space ship episode he could have gone back but chose to stay and save the ship, decisions like that are now rendered meaningless. The show even foreshadowed Jack saving the future first, then returning to the past (they could have gone this route and had the time travel de-age him, then use the later half of season 2 to tell the story of him defeating Aku in the past to save the past as well). Time Travel can work however the writers of a story want it to work, but they chose the stupidest way possible for the sake of stealing an ending from anime instead.
>>
>>143338489
>>undo the future that is aku
That was just Aku's narration in the opening, it's fair to say anything from Aku can be taken with a grain of salt. Jack clearly wanted to help the future, not just abandon it or undo everything he'd done to save it, this is even made evident when he took Ashi with him to the past without even considering it would erase her.
>>
>>143338489
Because it's stupid and an unsatisfying end to the series. Ashi aside, this means that everytime Jack missed a portal to save people instead, it was a meaningless gesture since he could have went back and ended the series here and there, and those people would have never been in danger in the first place. This also means the whole series didn't happen except in Jack's memories.
Now, Ashi was introduced in the last season and travels with Jack back to the past. You'd think he at least get to keep this from his 50+ years adventure. Well, nope, she just disapears because fuck you (but not before they get married for additional drama).
It's just dumb.
>>
>>143338534
>get payed to write final season for beloved show
>do zero research
>make up new character to date the main character
>new character takes over the story for the final season
>scramble to wrap-up story after wasting half the season establishing the new character
>new character marries the mc at the end
>fans find the whole thing unsatisfying

Sorry, I went on a tangent there. Sure Jack's shock COULD be justified if he'd never killed before, but he is a historical samurai and literally killed five people in the previous season. It was clear from here that the writers of this season had NOT been paying attention and were just running off the meme that the older seasons were always just robots.

I really don't see why Genndy went with this over instead of making it so he's finally reached his breaking point over how much slaughter he can stomach
>>
Jack had no fucking idea what robots were when he first came to the future and he had no problem killing people who tried him. even if he didn't know they were robots at first.
Him being suddenly shook that someone he killed was flesh and blood makes no sense.

not to mention the very premise that he went 50 years killing villains and mercenaries out for his head and every single one of them was a robot is incredibly silly as well.
>>
>jack never killed a human befo-ACK!
>>
>>143340324
Gennedy is a person who's really good at catching lightning in bottles but then doesn't know what to do with it
>>
>>143341412
>jack killed him out of mercy.
>He didn't even really kill him, he just defeated him and then the Viking died of old age when he freed himself from the curse.
>Jack had no choice and the Viking was not going to let him go unless he defeated him.
>the summary, Jack did not kill him, he simply freed the Viking from a curse.

Your example is bullshit.
>>
>>143340474
>or at least that is what Japan wants to sell us and make us ignore historical facts

Definately underselling how thuggish Samurai could be.

>Tsujigiri (辻斬り or 辻斬, literally "crossroads killing") is a Japanese term for a practice when a samurai, after receiving a new katana or developing a new fighting style or weapon, tests its effectiveness by attacking a human opponent, usually a random defenseless passer-by, in many cases during nighttime.
>>
>>143340474
The point of Jack was that he isn't a traditional Samurai, rather he's an avatar of humanities best qualities to balance out Aku being evil incarnate. It's why he spent his life studying every culture and fighting technique beforehand.
>>
>>143335766
That sword isn't for chopping wood.
>>
>>143341710
Jack is the direct cause of the Vikings death. that's killing.
him wanting to die is irrelevant because anyone who is trying to kill you is volunteering their life to you, full stop.

>decisions like that are now rendered meaningless
hey you dumb faggots have you considered that it was infinitely more selfish for Jack to stay in the future/never kill Aku for the reason of helping these people in the future? He can go back after undoing Aku's future and those people will have potentially lead to more fulfilling lives and half the shit that happened wouldn't have happened now that Aku is dead
True it shows Jack's good nature that he wants to help people but the point of the timeskip was to show that it wasn't a good idea and he really needed to go back because Aku's just gonna keep fucking shit up
I don't get this hang-up over "UHH BUH THAT MEANS JACK ERASED THOSE PEOPLE FROM EXISTENCE THEREFORE IT'S BAD AND IT UNDOES EVERYTHING AND IT WAS ALL POINTLESS" Jack had to go back at some point and by doing so these people can exist in a better timeline
If you don't like how rushed the ending was that's fine but stop pretending like there's some deeper reason it's bad other than they didn't have enough time to flesh it out and the game has a better ending anyway so just play that if you didn't like it
>>
>>143335718
It is incredibly stupid. It feels like an explanation for something that didn't need one. I'm sure everyone understood the reason why he never killed a flesh and blood person in the orignal show was due to censorship reasons so shining a light on just wasn't needed. I'm sure if they didn't add that part, most people watching would have just said, "Oh cool, Jack killed that guy" and not give it a second thought.
>>
>>143342318
>by doing so these people can exist in a better timeline
That's not how time travel works, moron, it's most likely that all those people will never be born.

If Genndy made the issue more about Jack spilling human blood rather than simply killing a human, it would have been more excusable. Jack definitely killed those bounty hunters, but it's clear he did so without drawing blood, making their deaths 'clean'. Plus, the whole childhood trauma of watching his father slay a bunch of bandits and getting their blood splattered on his face would have tied in better with that.

jack has no trauma with blood or killing, he was ok with murdering them.
The issue is this stupid plot about him never killing anybody.
>>
>>143342318
Yes, destroying the timeline in which Aku shits up everything to create a better one is the objectively best thing to do, but from a narrative standpoint it's an unsatisfying and dumb way to end the series.
Over the series, Jack misses several portals to the past to stay and save some randos who would have been erased by Jack killing Aku in the past anyway, yet at the end of the series Ashi just pulls a portal out of her ass and Jack happily jumps into it while Aku is killing all his future friends.

A more satisfying end would have been vainquishing Aku in the future, like he's been trying to do for the whole fucking series by the way, THEN go back to the past, maybe say some teary farewells to the future people, who wonder if that mean they'll be erased, but assure Jack it's for the greater good. Then either they do get erased if you want a sad ending, either they don't if you want a happy ending, or you leave it ambiguous. But you don't do the dumb forced girlfriend drama Genndy ending.
>the game has a better ending anyway
Yeah they realized the original ending was a wet fart so they had to retcon it.

I know Tartar was channeling his teenage wet dream and thus nostalgia in general by making the last half of the season circle entirely around Jack's forced romance and it was touching to see the old one-offs show up but frankly the tonal shift from the opening is what kills the flow.
