Is Brian really an idiot? He went to Brown.
>>
>>143351636
He never graduated
>>
>>143351636
I wish I could go to Brown.
>>
>>143351646
But he went there.
>>
>>143351636

Getting into Ivy League schools is more about being rich and having connections than being smart.

wasn't there a simpson episode where willie said he went to brown or something?
it was about lisa and ivy schools iirc
>>
you can assume Brian is reasonably intelligent but tries punching above his weight intellectually when he can't.
>>
>>143351636
>My incarcerated business partner's retarded gay niece went to Brown. What year did you graduate?
>>
>>143351851
Yes. He CAN be smart (he was originally supposed to be the more grounded voice of reason compared to the antics of the rest of the family, especially Peter), but he's frequently way out of his league and tries to sound smarter than he actually is, especially in more recent seasons after having lost that 'voice of reason' role so many years ago.
>>
The recent episode with him and religion was weird. He doesn't really learn anything or get challenged.

He just gets his as beat by god and it goes back to normal. And Brian did it all because a Christian girl wouldn't put out for him
>>
>>143351694
suspiciously specific
>>
>>143351851

Brian is dumb.
"went to university" is not indicative of intelligence as all of the dumbfucks who graduate from universities every year demonstrate.

>brain goes to vet
>gets scratch behind ears my female vet
>orgasmic
>discovers she's really into jesus
>pretends to be super christian but gives up once he finds out she won't fuck him before marriage
>complains to stewie that christianity is le bad and the worst thing to happen to humanity
>they go back in time to upstage jesus so he isn't seen as the messiah
>jesus wants to be a comedian anyway
>jesus still gets crucified b/c an offensive joke
>everyone in the present is now jews
>brian likes this until they have to turn their electronics off at sundown
>goes back in time again, gives moses 20 bucks to not show the ten commandments
>no religion in the present
>God shows up and gives Stewie and Brian a noogie
>cuts to Stewie and Brian singing in church, presumedly after undoing time mumbo jumbo

This and the last season of FG have just felt so undone in terms of pacing/plot/confrontation/conclusion/etc....Like they're incomplete.

Taking the religious episode for example.
Half of it is taken up by Brain dealing with Jesus. By the time we get to Stewie/Brian dealing with god, episode is already done which leads to that quick resolution. The episode before with Peter being the Fat guy consultant felt the same.

If it was a pre-Disney it would go like
>The vet visit and date goes as such but probably done in less time
>Brian convincing Jesus to stop being a prophet would have been two minutes at best
>The Non-christian timeline would have more offensive consequences
>Stewie and Brian would have a longer and deeper conversation with God or fight him in some manner
>show end with Christian timeline returning with a some sort of obvious change

Don't know if this is from Disney restrictions or the writers not giving a shit but these recent seasons just don't have it. At this point just end the show.
>>
>>143351636
Did he actually go to highschool? Who was raising him?
>>
>>143356219
they can only come up with about five minutes of jokes and so they really have to stretch that all out and hope it isn't stale. when did disney acquire family guy and is it really toned down? i haven't watched it in over two years b/c it's been super boring, but i still remember one episode where they have a squirrel getting ripped apart by brian in a bloody mess. maybe the restrictions are more along the lines of cultural sensitivities to avoid some headline like
>Disney Plus Show Openly Advocates for Anti-Semitism
>>
>>143356219
>The Non-christian timeline would have more offensive consequences

The jokes in the Jew reality were fucking weak and pandering.

>Ha ha we're all doctors because Jews are so intellectually superior!
>Ha ha Jews shop at Ross because we're so Frugal!
>Ha Ha Jews wear the Star of David!

>The recent episode with him and religion was weird.
Except they literally already did this concept but better when they visited the dimension where christianity was never a thing and everyone was 1000 years more advanced. Why didn't that happen this time when they stopped christianity from existing?
>>
>>143351636
>Has meet Jesus Christ multiple times in the series
>Is still to far up his own ass to stop being an atheist
>Goes back in time to stop Jesus from getting crufixed because "le tradcath christian girl didnt want to fuck me after just getting to know me" so Christianity must die!
>World becomes Jewish and of course Brian is totally fine with it until he has to go to a synagogue because he's alergic to anything religion related
>Goes back in time again and stops Moses to
>Everything is the same just more boring
>He literally says something like"Ugh this is great! A world filled with science and reason"
>Before he can enjoy his reddit world God pays them a visit and noogies Brian and Stewie until the fix things
>Brian refuses because of course the egotistical faggot thinks he cant stand up to God
>Episode ends with him and Stewie singing at church as their bodies are bloodied and bruised

Besides a few funny moments it was another "Brian is an obnoxious faggot and Stewie is there to!" episode, but at least the ending is satisfied

>>143357830
You really expect Modern Family Guy to have an consistency? Plus that moment was epitome "I fucking love science" nonsense. Humans are just as retarded and destructive towards eachother without religon, if not worse in some cases. The idea of a faithless world being a futurist utopia is beyond naive.

You expect too much out of the Family Guy writers. So many jokes and cutaways have to be written per episode that I'd be surprised if they remembered a previous Christianity bit.

The lack of a callback wasn't the problem. This latest episode was just underwhelming all on its own.

Going to an Ivy League school doesn't mean you're actually an intelligent or competent person, especially in this day and age where you can buy your way in through privilege, legacy and wealth.

The episode was more about establishing Brian’s hypocrisy than being anti religion
He only hates Christianity because he can’t fuck a chick, then he hates a Jewish world because even more petty reasons
>>
>>143351636
There is no such thing as someone who is all-around smart. You may be an expert in certain fields, but a huge idiot in others. Brian is also an underachiever, he has the potential to be as smart as he comes off as, but he's currently like some kid who uses sparknotes to quote a book he's never read.
>>
>>143351636
>He went to Brown
What is that even mean exactly?
>>
>>143351636
Brian was retconned into being an idiot because the writers didn't know what to do with him, since the show's changed showrunners and crew a dozen times. That's why they forgot he likes opera and has read many books.

It also might be a reflection of Seth himself growing less dignified and more sleazy as he's gotten older.

Disney brought Fox in 2019, but I would say season 20 in 2021 can be considered the first Disney season. It just feels there. No bite no edge, just filling up 22 minutes.

>>143358666
Amazing that production can spend on Sam Eliot or Chris Parnell over a few seasons and the odd celebrity now and then but can't spend money on Reagan Gomez and Kevin Richardson who would be significantly less.

Friendly reminder that Harvard Extension School was designed for working adults to still get their education from Harvard and requires a B+ GPA for the entire duration of your degree program or you are expelled, and the Harvard alumni network refuse to let the extension school (8th oldest of Harvard's 13 colleges) actually issue degrees in ANYTHING because they said people who go to Harvard and maintain a 3.5 as adults didn't earn it the same way any C student trust fund kid did fresh out of high school.
To this day a degree from the Harvard extension school can only be a ba/ms in "Extension Studies" despite you having the same classes, professors, and coursework as the main college.
I.e if you got a masters in computer science from the extension school, it's the same program as the campus grad school, but you cannot get a degree in computer science. Only a degree in Extension Studies.

Looking back, yeah they did spend way too much time on Jesus's rise to stand-up. Made the whole episode feel kind of slow and meandering before quickly wrapping things up with that literal deus ex machina

this part of the internet made a word for those guys, Midwits. They're people of normal intelegence who rationalise emotionally attached decisions as smart, think more words mean more intelligence and think themselves smarter than they are. The idea being that idiots and geniuses come to similar conclusions, while middle intelligence people over complicate things and get it wrong.
