Whereas I imagine the reboot would somehow slip in the fact that either Rebecca is better at Baloo at everything, or that there's no hint of romantic subtext between the two because hetro 'ships are verboten. The key point being both Rebecca and Baloo had flaws and needed each other to work.
Going through this and the glimpse we saw in Ducktales 2017 it’s abundantly clear that they interpreted Drake and Launchpad as homosexuals who eventually started dating, and were going to push it as far as they would be able to without directly saying. If they got lucky and Disney eased up on strictness like then they might have confirmed it by the end, and if not someone who worked on it said they would have afterwards. They even said Launchpad was bi in Ducktales so it makes it pretty clear what was planned for his spinoff. That might have in part killed it, it might have been too obvious for them to be comfortable with it
