It just looks like they are because in reality, the Astonishing suit is just a more "realistic" and less stylized version of the classic suit. It's like saying BvS Batman's batsuit is adapting the New 52 design because of no undies when it's actually trying to adapt the TDKR suit but ditching some of the elements that seem too "stylized" for live action.
