Yes, I want another book where he and Cassie go on adventures and take on more odd-jobs

Is pretty weird, he's pretty much a different guy from how Eric ended up being after his development

When did the theme of Pym as “the typical evil mad scientist if he was a good guy hero” get popularized? Saw it first on threads like these, but I’ve seen it on old Youtube comments and forum posts too.
Sidenote, a video essay on Pym and the Ant-Men is prime material for a video essay.

I liked the Kirkman O'Grady Eric more. I liked his story of douchebag trying to better. Slott used him well in Avengers Initiative.

With Black Ant I think Marvel just wants one Ant Man (Scott) and will only do multiple versions of one hero for the sake of representation (Cap, Spider-Man,Wolverine).

Matt Fraction and Mike Allred's FF run. Reed picks Scott to lead a Fantastic Four team while he takes a vacation with his family. The team is Scott, She Hulk, Medusa, and Darla/Ms Thing. Very fun comic and Allred's art is great. Scott's story deals with getting over his daughter's death, leading the team, and a relationship with Darla. He's very competent as a superhero and scientist. The main cast gets good writing and there's good stuff for other Future Foundation members like Whitley, Dragon Man, Alex Powers, Artie, Leech and the mole kids.

The story is somewhat controversial because Scott wrecks Doom at the end for killing Cassie, but I like how it was done.

Hank Pym is a nothing character that has been rendered redundant and outdated by the more successful characters like Tony, Bruce and even Reed. Give the creation of Ultron to the engineer that is Iron Man, and hand over the microverse stuff to him or Reed. Might as well also make Janet Tony's love interest to complete the move. Excising the bloat while adding more to the much more important characters. It streamlines the Marvel U. If you need Giant-Man, then make Janet Giant-Girl like she was in Marvel Adventures.

Yeah nah, Ultron alone gives Hank Pym more than enough to stand out from the rest of his scientific peers in terms of character and his strange journey as a person through the Marvel Universe is something that could only happen thanks to the nature of cape comics.
>>
I just think he's neat :)
>>
>>143382054
That was until the MCU had Tony create Ultron instead. It makes far more sense for the major tech guy to create the killer robot.
>>
Has Hank returned yet or is he still not-ultron stuck inside inside the soul gem illusion world?
>>
>>143382147
And most thought AoU sucked. Ultron didn't have the gravitas nor the depth of the comic version save for like 2 scenes, which honestly sucks, Joss Whedon might be devil for comic book and movie fans but he does get the basic gist of the character, "Ultron is not a creature of logic -- he's a robot who's genuinely disturbed"

One of my favorite things about Ant-Man's powers is how fast changing size actually is and the opportunity that gives for fight scenes. It wasn't always like that, back in the early days shrinking used to be slow and methodical, Hank had to stop and swallow special pills or stop to open gas canisters on his belt to change. It may be some form of power creep but nowdays is a given that the effects are almost instantaneous, thanks to the need to make more dynamic and fast action sequences.

Ant-Man Quantumania is dogwater but it has one of my favorite examples of his power, the way he goes from insect size to giant in an instant to charge at Kang is actually something that I wanted to see from a long time and reminds me of that scene from EMH.
>>
What's the reading order for the current Ant-Man related books?
Do I need to read Wasp or Ant-Man to understand Avengers Inc.? Are there any other prereqs?
>>
>>143382521
>Janet and Havok? Aren't they still married? Didn't they have a baby?
In a future timeline that got averted. IIRC they remembered the events of that timeline somehow but none of it's been referred to since about 2014, it was a Remender story nobody followed up on.

Kang had stolen the baby, so if anyone ever remembers it, we're getting another plot about Kang raising a superhero couple's kid to fight them, it's one of his hobbies.

>>
>>143385222
It's just weird how the current books have her treating Nadia like her own daughter and talking about how despite the divorce Hank's death has her feeling like a widow, while completely ignoring her more recent marriage and the child she remembers giving birth to and raising.
>>
>>143385539
Jan hardly appeared for a year or two after that story, and it's not really surprising nobody's referred to it since. Wasp and Havok as a random hook-up during Uncanny Avengers was plausible enough but Remender shouldn't have saddled those characters with that kind of baggage that's forever. And once he'd done that, he shouldn't have bailed on them with it unresolved.

It's just one more thing at Marvel that's left dangling from a previous run, nobody knows how to deal with it, and nobody wants to waste time dealing with it when they can just pretend it never happened.

Marvel quietly retconning his work by ignoring most of it makes me think both sides were ready for that relationship to end. Remender was completely incapable of handling online fan interaction with grace and probably caused more headaches than he was worth. It's a shame. I didn't agree with some of his character decisions but I still really liked those stories. His Image books are fantastic.

Yeah right. Leftoids melted down over that take. There were editorials at Comics Authority, Graphic Policy, etc decrying it. They'd only be able to use it as an example of wrongthink and then whatever character gave it would be ruined. Just like Havoc is now. He was AXIS'D evil and stayed villainous forever. So all through Krakoa he was just DAMAGED.

nope. she got kidnapped by soviets for unknown reasons instead of just being killed and gave birth do Nadja.
Nadja got sent to red room but did avoid being completely brainwashed thanks to her Pym-ness and later escaped.

Because of Legal Reasons™ she couldn't be recognized legally as Hank's daughter, so Janet did adopt her.

There is a ongoing mystery whether Maria Pym is still alive or not. Last time she was suggested alive it was just a trap for Nadja.

Nadja also got an absolutely MAGNIFICENT couple issues in her book(s) about her bipolarity, which I warmly suggest
Also she got to meet most of her extended family which was heartwarming.
And she recently got to meet her dad and her old-new brothers: Sigma... I'm sorry ULTRON Virus and a resurrected Ultron Mk-12 "Mark Ultron"(the Good Ultron)

the one person she hasn't met yet is Firebird, probably because she'd give her a slightly different narrative on Hank and Janet's relationship.

You made a bit of an error there. Mike Allred and his wife Laura basically were the people who wrote the Ant Man Future Foundation book, as Fraction refused to have anything to do with it and basically let the Allreds ghostwrite the whole thing while putting Fraction's name on it.

(Matt Fraction, like Brian Michael Bendis, DESPISES Scott Lang in general and was forced to go along with Future Foundation getting rebooted with Scott as the lead in order to get to write the main FF book. Fraction did his best to rekill Scott Lang within months of his resurrection in Children's Crusade as far as the opening arc on Fraction's Defenders being Scott getting brutally murdered and his body fed to time displaced dinosaurs. The arc got rejected, and along with Fraction being told he was banned from using Miracleman, who Fraction demanded he be the one who brings him into the Marvel Universe proper, was why he quit working for Marvel.)

Also, the reason the arc ended with confirmation that Doctor Doom is a piece of shit and evil incarnate is due to fan backlash for how Reed and Magneto kept palling around with Doctor Doom after Doom straight up murdered Cassie in Children's Crusade and it being confirmed that Doom was responsible for Avengers Disassembled/House of M and framed Wanda for those deeds due to Jonathan Hickman, like Fraction, being a Bendis dick sucker and doing Bendis's bidding refusing to acknowledge Children's Crusade due to Bendis being pissy that Disney overruled Bendis and the way he spent nearly a decade keeping Allen Heinberg from writing it and overturning Bendis destroy Wanda and Scott.

>>
>>143396497

>>
>>143396439
This is a bunch of fan fic nonsense based off half-remembered shit. “Fraction wanted nothing to do with FF” despite having his name on it and doing interviews and everything for it? What? The Allreds didn’t take over writing until Fraction got too busy with Inhumans, and if what you say was true why would they even bother bringing on Lee Allred and announce Fraction was taking a backseat if it was being ghostwritten anyway?

And no, there was never any dead Ant-Man in Fraction’s Defenders’ opening arc. He was going to do a story with Namor finding Ant-Man’s body in a fossilized T-Rex and investigating how that was possible. And since Ant-Man was already teased to join the team by Marvel Point One and that run involved the multiverse and events being undone by time travel, I strongly doubt it was going to be Scott dead.

Whose ass did you pull all this crap out of? We know Fraction pitched an Ant-Men book that would have started Scott that ended up becoming FF, so to accuse him of all writers of hating Scott when he already used him in two team books is some bullshit.

>>143408433
Is not a bad design choice, it makes the chest area look broad and strong, with Ant-Man they made it look like an ant head. The problem is when they started to use it as a clutch for every new MCU suit, because the design director is the same guy

I can see your point, A&W is a better design but the QM suit looked better on-screen because of the color. The A&W actually looked the best in promos where it had actual color

I thought it was actually a pretty brilliant way to bring Corey Stoll back AND introduce MODOK. The problem is it was played completely for laughs. And that heroic sacrifice was nonsense. Very poor execution.

It's a shame, I liked the Kang stuff, and the multiplied Scott scene was fantastic. But the denizens of the Quantum Realm were lame and that conflict, the entire point of the movie, just didn't work.

The later issues of Erics story is so odd, especially midway through his arc where hes on the Initiative where he shit talks Cassie over Scott and oddly becomes friends with Task Master. This is the only thing carried over with Black Ant in that him and Task Master are best buddies.

You know how cape movies are often criticized because their fights are a mirror match between Hero vs Evil version of said hero? Well, for the Ant-people I think this can be an advantage, because then the action scenes feature superhumans that duke it out in mundane everyday scenarios but from a different perspective, showcasing what makes the power unique and fun. It invites the imagination because everything is a battlefield, it's that child-like joy of making up fights with your toys on your bedroom.

Pymtron could have been great as a short term storyline with a planned beginning, middle and end, but it just became a weird change that both Hank and Ultron were stuck in for years, which nobody knew what to do with, and writers couldn't even agree on whether there was any of Hank left in there or if it was just Ultron wearing his corpse.

It's hard to escape the idea that it just happened because Marvel wanted to take Hank out of play in advance of the first Ant-Man movie to try and avoid any articles about the slap getting written and affecting normie perception of the characters.

Scott and Cassie living a quiet life in New York, Scott already has experience being Ant-Man while Cassie is just a normal teenager, until one day, Willie Dugan, a guy that used to regularly work with Scott during his criminal days escapes prision and starts to kill other guys that used work with him because they testified against him. It seems that Scott is next so the FBI gets involved and he and Cassie get put in a protection program, much to their annoyance since you know, he's a super hero but can't reveal it. All is fine until Dugan actually kidnaps Cassie, so Scott has to go on his own to save her.

There's also some other fun slice-of-life parts, like Cassie stealing the Ant-Man suit and trying it for the first time to get revenge on a classmate. Or Scott trying to get back into the dating world.

Dude, dont even get me started on how shitty Marvel is at printing their stories. Amazing Spider-Man omnis should ALWAYS be in print for example. For whatever fucking reason, Marvel is so shit keeping stuff in print, and make it so hard for new readers to jump in.

Like for example I was working at the shop, guy walks in asking about Spider-Man. I couldn't help the fucking guy since they barely print collected stories people might actually want to read

>>
>>143489242
Bro fucking Volume 1 of Spider-Girl complete collection is 90 dollars because of their shit.

Yeah they just released the Modern collection version which is only 35, but still it's fucking ridiculous that people can jack the prices so fucking high up because of the lack of stock.

It's why i'm always looking at second hand stores instead of normal retail or online stores, they can be so much cheaper a lot of the time.

Even if they're not ALWAYS in print, Marvel and DC both need to capitalize on at least reprinting certain stories when movies come out because people will be more likely to be the story arcs they're based on or at least the popular stories for characters in it

As contrived as it was that Hank had a secret daughter he never knew about who just happened to show up at the specific time in Marvel history when every old character seemed to be getting a new replacement, I was open to giving Nadia a chance, but they gave her book to an awful writer who was more interested in writing about the supporting cast of OCs he surrounded her with. Then when it inevitably got cancelled they gave him another chance. And Nadia went from idolizing Hank to being told about the slap and she started using Jan's last name I think.
>>
>>143479043
He did back in the 1980s. Hank thought they were in a serious, exclusive relationship when she was banging several of the other West Coast Avengers at the same time, Tony and Wonderman IIRC. Not LITERALLY at the same time though.

Hank finding out it wasn't a serious relationship was one of the things that led to the suicide attempt that Firebird saved him from.

I agree her book was bogged down by way too many supporting cast members who were introduced too fast and were just boring at best.

but it DID give use the wonderful issues of her bipolarity attack plus her meeting most of her extended family and friends.
Except Firebird because Jan is a bitch.

Her needing to use Jan's surname because legal bullshit was ridiculous and I honestly am not sure most writers do remember that.

difficult: the Ant-Fa(r)m is large and quite distant.

The best would be a "Doc Pym and His Thunderbolts (formerly known as the Lethal Legion)" book with Hank hunting for Ultron and managing his assembled villainous allies some of them turning over a new leaf during the book helped by Firebird who strongly believes in redemption and still wants Doc's Hornet if you get my meaning.

And as regular backup feature: the (mis)adventures of Nadja and Mark at heroism with Mark being a Ultron causing often problems due how everybody see him as a mass-murder killer robot genocide machine
