We still have 11 hours to go for the launch day schedule.
https://www.metvtoons.com/schedule/
>>
i don't think there's any free streams right now but you can sign up for a frndly tv free trial and cancel it immediately to watch it for a week for free (and DVR whatever you wanna watch but can't watch live instead of just downloading it like a smart person would)
>>
Rate the channel

Or

It's still in it's early days though. Jerry Beck has said the schedule won't stay stagnant and they still have a lot more planned that hasn't been announced yet, so we'll see how it goes.
>>
I think the channel is available in my area, but it's not on my Hulu Live TV yet.
>>
>>144245468
>Saturday Night: Duck Dodgers, Two Stupid Dogs, Freak-A-Zoid
>Sunday Afternoon: Scooby-Doo cartoon block
Bros... cartoons are back!
>>
>>144245756
I don't think MeTV is even on Hulu. I can get it with an antenna but Toons isn't in my area at this point.
>>
>>144245468
So who's gonna be cool enough to stream the channel?
>>
Any online streams yet?
>>
>>144245975
Nope but on the bright boomerag and CN can now die for all I care. A shae about them they we once good cannels.
>>
Your only excuses for not having this channel yet are
>You aren't American
>You have cable and are waiting for them to add it since it's in your region just not on your system
Otherwise there's no excuse. It's $7 per month to stream it and other channels or $20 for an antenna
>>
>>144245756
>>144245874
Yeah, as of now the only streaming options are Frndly and Philo.
>>
>>144245874
metv is only on frndly and philo

Just wanted to say thanks to the fellow anons that kept these threads going the nite before. It was an epic launch of a cartoon channel.
>>
>>144246617
Well, they're showing Pepe le Pew if that counts.
>>
>>144246617
Literally showing everything as is so far. Putting aside black face and poly-wogs. It is as inoffensive as Nick at Nite in the 90s.
>>
When the livestream was going there was a lot of talk, but now that people can't just pirate it online and have to go through even the most half ass effort to get a free broadcast tv channel discussion is dead
That or it was a one day fad and no one cares anymore

So are they going to start showing the Speedy cartoons before the Speedy and Daffy era? Regular MeTV only aired the Speedy and Daffy ones, but they've showed clips of the earlier ones on Cartoon College.
>>
Still not picking up the channel but at least they changed the launch day for my area finally. Thread was still pretty fun though. Thanks for letting me enjoy it vicariously

dont like the selections too much but they’ve got the scheduling and bumpers right. has a lot of potential and as long as they keep the rotation fresh it should do well.

highly doubt it but if they had the balls they would make an event to play the censored eleven

i dont mind if they never do, but man is the state of cartoons dire, i would really appreciate metv toons giving some young animators a chance. im pretty sure only fox and pbs kids are the last non cable channels that make any cartoons
>>
>>144247570
They don't want it to become like Cartoon Network. They want to keep it as the ultimate destination for classic cartoons and not stray from that at all.
>>
>excited about this for months
>day finally comes

You can stretch that definition. Would you say "What's New Scooby-Doo?" didn't fit it at the time? I don't know, I assumed many things yet companies are unpredictable.
>>
Hey! Our first widescreen cartoon!
>>
Noticed that they haven't been airing too many ads, mostly promos. Maybe we'll be getting more of those later, but having advertisers pay for airtime seems kind of important for the channel's longevity.
>>
The announcer's voice is like nails on a chalkboard
>>
>>144247793
It's Bob Bergen who's been voicing Porky for a while. I agree, they shouldn't have asked for such a nerdy-sounding performance. Leslie Fram he isn't.
>>
>>144246617

They showed The Cats Bah this evening. Funny how CN used to show it uncensored while ABC cut out the intro because Pepe was smoking. Neither would touch it now for completely different reasons.
>>
>>144247793
Yeah, it's annoying. The issue is they want people to know it's the guy who voices Porky Pig, so they have him do that voice instead of a regular announcer voice.
>>
>>144247828
The old ABC airings used to censor everything.
>>
>>144247774
The first 3 hours after launch had zero ads at all. I guess advertisers are waiting to see what the ratings are before putting money down.
>>
BILLY MAYS HERE!! is peak infomercial comfy
>>
>>144247570
if they ever did air newer programming i would 100% expect it to either be new iterations of old properties, or new cartoons made in the same vein as classic cartoons
>>
They air way too many theatrical cartoons, especially the WB-owned stuff. I know that it's probably because they're the best quality things they have the rights to, but the schedule could stand to have some variety.
>>
>>144247952

They're leaning on the WB stuff heavily starting out because WB has the largest percentage of cartoons restored in HD. Especially the really popular stuff like Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Flintstones and Scoobdy Doo.

As >>144245666 said, the schedule is going to go under heavy refreshment in the next six months.
>>
>>144247952
they have hour long blocks each of popeye+betty boop, tom and jerry + tex avery, and casper during the day
the morning opened up with beetlejuice and ghost busters
>>
>>144247774
You have to remember it's a smaller substation, they don't get many advertisers in the first place
Also that it's the first day so a lot of the networks (and online networks) were slowly signing on, cable networks haven't added it yet, etc.
It doesn't have the reach yet
>>
>>144247952
The Hanna Barbara catalog is pretty dominant on the channel outside the theatrical short blocks.

>>144248019
I definitely see The Mask leaving pretty quick, it's a movie spinoff show that's completely forgotten compared to the likes of Beetlejuice and Real Ghostbusters.
>>
>>144248030
That's sort of my point. Any variety like the 80's cartoons, anime, and Gerry Anderson shows are on at late night/early morning. A majority of the schedule when most people are watching are theatrical shorts.
>>
>the ALF cartoons air at 5am-6am

Why does MeTV treat ALF like shit?
>>
>>144248081
Because primetime is reserved for the most watched and known content like Looney Tunes, Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, etc. while late night is given to the culty stuff for animation dorks
The normalfags would not be excited to pop up at 8 pm to watch Marine Boy, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home or Captain Scarlet
>>
Why is Rocky and Bullwinkle on so late? You'd think it'd be earlier considering how popular it is and how much it's in the promotional material.
>>
>>144248159
It gets primetime airings during weekends
>>
>>144248159
Rocky and Bullwinkle will get plenty of play.
>>
>>144248159
Looks like they have earlier slots on the weekends too.
>>
>>144246109
I had that problem too, get one of those amplifiers and I'll fix that.

Did MeTV+ serve any purpose or show anything notable? I know I had the channel (no idea if I still have it) but I thought it was pointless. I don't remember when MeTV started branching out outside of the Midwest, but does anybody remember when there was a MeTV and a MeToo?
>>
>>144248862
I'm pretty sure the main purpose was to show stuff they had the rights to but didn't have room for on the main MeTV network.
>>
>>144248117
The Real Ghostbusters, and Beetlejuice airs at 6am Central. That is cruel. It was like having to get up be an hour earlier before school to watch a cartoon no one else liked but you.

>>

hard to say. doubt they would let something like Gargoyles air, but they might be willing to let some of their less popular classics air. streaming is a flub, so they might be willing to give it a try.
also, there has to be sites you can watch them on. hell, I've watched a good share of classics on YouTube.

>>
So this show is just like the 60's Aquaman cartoons but with better direction and music.
>>
>>144249364
Literally who?

>>144249525
That wouldn't be a good idea at all. People don't like Disney enough to view that right now. Plus, it I'll just come off as a desperate action. And too top it all off, not alot of folks feel nostalgia for their older cartoons, because they've always been bad at circulating them. Out of the over 300 Disney cartoons, ony like, 20 ever get acknowledged. It would actually be a better ides too just dump them on Me TV Toons, or make offical YouTube compilations, similar too what The Tom and Jerry, and Woody Woodpecker YT Channels do.

Then again, I heard Disney + will aprently get there own live channels, similar to what Huku does. If they do that, I would definitely not mind them making a proper Disney Toons block.

And hey, if Me TV Toon decides to get cocky, they could always just air the public domain Disney shorts, and even there WW2 shit.
>>
>>144249537
lol, yeah I'm getting that vibe
>>
>>144249516
>Shame that Astro Boy's original show missing lot of episodes and I think it's in rights hell
All of the dubbed episodes have always been around. It's just the Japanese version that's missing episodes, but I think even that is down to only one or two that are still missing.
>>
>>144249371
I've heard lots of anecdotes of early American anime fandom in the 60's and 70's and I don't recall anyone ever mentioning this show. It must not have gotten a lot of airtime.
>>

Some movies do, but nothing they made for TV does. A country like Japan has a lot less sponsor ship money than America, so besides a few rare cases they can't even make something on-par with the quality of our TV animation.
>>

>>
>>144249752
Some old shorts but TV animation for anime about on same level of US just different ways of animating.

Anime tends to look better to some people die to detail of the drawings and the direction even if it has less animation than American cartoons usually lacking character animation and anime doesn't do lipsync besides Akira.

Jerry Beck, one of the people behind this channel, was practically best buddies with Carl Macek, the creator or Robotech. The two of them created the very first anime distribution company in the United States, Streamline Pictures. I would be very, very surprised if Robotech didn't eventually show up.

Here in LatAm, in the 2010s, we used to have 'Club Disney', an afternoon block on a antenna channel made to promote cable TV, using only older cartoons for this. This was the line-up:
>The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
>Mickey Mouse Works
>Special Agent Oso
>The Little Mermaid
>Hercules: The Animated Series
>Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
>Johnny and the Sprites
>Art Attack
>Spider-Man Unlimited
>The Incredible Hulk
>Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood

Repositioned my antenna so that the dipoles hang across the top of the balcony door horizontally, and this seems to have helped a lot. There are still some dropouts but at least it's watchable most of the time. Of course, right now there's only Richie Rich slop on, gotta wait for Scooby Doo to start watching again.
>>

having perfect reception is pretty good, but not $100 a month good. especially with how dead cable is currently
>>
>>144259292
Yeah. Cable isn't worth it. The channels are all basically on auto play and play the same 4 or 5 shows over and over in small marathons. Terrible. Channels like MeTV are good but they're over the air channels and not cable so it's a bit different. Ironically, the channels you can get for free are much higher in quality than the ones you have to pay for.
>>
>>144259427
The free live streaming channels like on Roku and Pluto are better than shit on cable even if it's all reruns.
>>
>>144259427
yeah doesnt fox still try to make new content? i dont watch mich tv but it seems like they always have new stuff that gets added on streaming services

Those people aren't just autists, they are underage children. The cable or satellite they have is just their parents, and they don't have a job so they can't buy a $20 antenna, and wouldn't even know how to get it to work in the first place
>>
>>144259481
Just buy a Roku and an antenna and never pay for TV.
>>
This show is kinda massive shit lol how did it become so popular
>>
>>144259547
It always was. I remember when Cartoon Network used to play it 7 times a day (and this was when CN was actually good). It was the only sore spot on an otherwise stellar schedule. Like I get kiddies like the dumb talking dog, but too much is too much.
>>
>>144258186

MeTV Toons is partially a WB venture so they're getting prominent placement
>>
They're showing a Speedy Cartoon from the pre-Daffy Seven Arts days.
>>
Most likely additions:

>Superfriends
>Fleischer Superman
>(maybe the Filmation DC cartoons)
>Space Ghost heroes block with Herculoids, Birdman, Frankenstein JR, etc
>Laff a lympics
>Hong Kong Phooey
>Jabberjaw (maybe?)

Kind of feel like Jerry Beck wouldn't want all those 70s Scooby clones and slop like Laverne and Shirley in Space
>>
How is Speedy and shorts like that supposed to be offensive again?
>>
>>144261639
Speedy is an anti-capitalist hero. Most of the shorts deal with how oppressive powers keeping the mice from food.
>>
>Looney Tunes at 8 pm
How is this a real channel
>>
They should just fill this channel with 80s, 90s, 00s shows too no one wants. There's so many cartoons from Saturday morning they could showcase that don't get viewed on Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Max, etc and would do way better on here.
>>
>>144261717
If there's one thing anti-capitalists have in abundance, it's food.

I really, really, really wish Inspector Gadget came on earlier alongside Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, and Police Academy. Weird that they split up the action/comedy 80s cartoons like that.
>>
>>144266850
Yeah. Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters are perfect companion shows since they both deal with ghosts and the supernatural. Police Academy and Inspector Gadget would work well together as a 'wacky cops' hour.
>>
>>144266876
I feel like this would be a better early morning schedule, but they probably wanted to keep Bugs Bunny on at 8 for the people who are getting ready for work/school.

6:00a Captain Planet
6:30a Police Academy
7:00a Inspector Gadget
7:30a The Real Ghostbusters
8:00a Beetlejuice
8:30a Underdog
9:00a Bugs Bunny and Friends
9:30a Bugs Bunny and Friends
>>
>>144266926

Toon in With Me still airs on MeTV prime and they don't want to split its audience.
Ghostbusters/Beetlejuice is different enough from classic theatrical cartoons and plays more to the 80s/90s nostalgia. This way they're serving both boomers and millenials
>>
>>144266835
nice
>>
>>144266688

>>
>>144267551
They have Betty Boop as most of the Fleischer library is own by Paramount, Warner Bros only has the Popeye (characters are own by King Features however) and Superman shorts.
>>
>>144267647
damn that actually sucks
>>
>>144267654
Most of the Betty Boop they air is public domain and they're working with the Fleischer estate to air restored versions.

The "Famous Studios" character rights are all carved up but Paramount doesn't own Betty
>>
That green flea and the dog, man I haven't seen that in so long. Bless this channel.
>>
>>144267711
I was figuring that, but I know the Fleischer estate owns Betty and her friends (including Koko and Bimbo) since the early 1970s.

Since MeTV does have a deal with NBC Universal Felix the Cat isn't out of the question since they already have Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog, the Walter Lantz library and the Harveytoons.

And since Oswalt the Lucky Rabbit bas been public domain since 2023 they can air the Lantz Oswalts without Disney going ballistic due to that NBC Universal deal.
>>
>>144267647
man so all these ads I'm seeing are from Frndly? that's really gay
>>
Easily the best part is the shitty actual children screaming online when they find out their parent’s Xfinity, Spectrum, etc doesn’t plan to ever carry this channel and being locked out of watching MeTV Toons as it’s only for adult chads
>>
>>144267981
Moreso they would just need a 24.99 digital antenna.
>>
>>144267981
Thats not what going on, they're just using Frndly to get around Xfinity, Spectrum, etc's lack of MeTV Toons.
>>
>>144268045
Adults are getting an antenna if there’s a nearby signal to or just subscribing to Frndly, both of which are affordable to any adult with a job
These kids can’t do either since they have no means to do so which means they are locked out, which is bringing animation back to adults only

I like M.A.S.H./10
>>
>>144245566
Pros:
>good variety, not too many of the same show played in a row
>well curated blocks that don't just focus on one single character
>not a single thing on the channel I won't at least leave on in the background
>no zoomer cartoons with poorly drawn kid characters
>good mix of classics and obscurities, as well as some stuff from the 80s and 90s
>most of the content is remastered and looks great
>promos are fun and enjoyable
>it uses channel bumpers, something that's rare in this day and age

Cons:
>Rocky & Bullwinkle uses the awful replacement music
>Underdog uses the 1996 syndication package with the out of place music
>a little too much emphasis on theatrical shorts during peak hours
>needs some superhero shows
>certain shows like 'The Mask' aren't part of any block and are just lingering by themselves in the middle of the night where no one will watch them
>Frndly and Philo tend to preempt the fun promos with shitty commercials
>channel bumpers could be a little more personalized (ie. "Now back to Wacky Races" instead of "Now back with more cartoon fun, continuing now!")

Overall, I give it a 9 with some room for improvement. But it's the best new channel for animation since the original Cartoon Network launched.

I wish Bullwinkle and Speed Racer were on at more convenient times because I have a lot of fond memories watching those on CN, but maybe they aren't as popular as some of the other shows. I like Scooby Doo right where it's at because I can watch it while eating dinner, and it seems like one of the shows with the widest appeal because it's such a big franchise even today.

Giving it away for free in that fashion would hurt their affiliates and any carriage agreements with pay-TV providers. That's presumably why the upcoming FAST channel will have a different schedule.

People don't like to call these puppet shows cartoons, but they're basically the same thing as movies like Frozen, where most of the "animation" is done by moving puppets around, only done digitally instead of by hand.
>>
>>144279349
I'm pretty sure Cartoon Network doesn't even have the assets to that anymore. Cartoon Network didn't save any of their shit. If they exist, they're on privately owned tapes from somebody who worked on it.
