Why does every character in Helluva Boss have daddy issues?
Author projecting. This how how anyone with daddy issues acts by the way. They sprinkle it into their story instead of talking about it like an adult.
>>152305350It's annoying how common it's become, because it makes me feel like I can't write a story with a character who has issues with an emotionally abusive/neglectful father without being accused myself of having "daddy issues".
>>152305350Oh like John K
>>152305381There are definitely well written stories that have neglectful fathers in them that don't feel like projecting. But a lot of them just really feel like the author saying "GUYS MY DAD WAS KINDA MEAN TO ME WHEN I WAS A KID :((((". A line like 'I think my dad is a giant piece of shit' falls under that category.
>>152305330Because most of the people in vivzipop are deranged and has daddy issues which is why self-insert their personal issues to their work.
>>152305330Viv dad mostly Oh and i bet brandon too
>>152305381It's fine if it's limited to one or two characters and it's handled appropriately within the narrative (i.e. unless its the main focus of the story, don't let it take center stage over the actual plot).
>>152305330I stopped watching ages ago, but as far I as know Stella doesn't seem to have daddy issues. Another example of why she is the only good character in this slop.
>>152307509>Stella doesn't seem to have daddy issues.Thats because she just has issues, period.
>>152305394John K's father was actually abusive and we at least got George Liquor out of it. It'd also probably explain why he's a raving narcissist.I'd be truly shocked if Vivzieblob suffered any real parental abuse in her life when her entire personality implies a coddled upbringing.
>>152305330I also think they fear having an abusive mother/Mommy issues is more open to mockery or written off as misogyny.
>>152308322I mean, it is possible she was emotionally abused, maybe without the dad even realizing ifI heard people say via is viv's self insert, which makes some senseStolas is definitely emotionally abusive, though
>stolas tries to hit on me>sorry stolas, i'm not gay>he uses magic to turn himself female>what about now, says the hot owl milfoh fuck yeah
>>152308441>stolas tries to hit on you>sorry stolas, i'm not gay>he uses magic to turn you gay
>>152308458The spell does nothing because I was lying about my sexuality. I merely find his personality repulsive.
>>152308441>Fucking genderbent stolasOctavia would never forgive me, so i'll have to pass
>>152308322>John K's father was actually abusiveWhat did his dad do?
>>152305330I hate that i find i have so much in common with the cast of this awful fujo show
Is this the thread?
>>152308580>DAD, STOP FUCKING MY BOYFRIEND>octavia i'm a woman now so you have to call me mom>octavia your mom is awesome>AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>152305330>Why does every character in Helluva Boss have daddy issues?Millie and Striker could be an exceptions.
>>152308754Millie, sure... but Striker? He might be up next, since they intend to shed some light on his past. Knowing Viv and her limited tropes, it'll probably be the same old. Hell, I'm willing to bet his dad was a noble who never paid much attention to him.
>>152308828nta, but they seem to be making so that his past is more about losing his family than having any issues with his parents
>>152308845Perhaps. But you have to remember too: with Vivziepop, characters and plots are subject to change without warning.
>>152308580>caring about what Olivia thinks
>>152308951>he doesnt care about that his friend thinksand thats completely disregarding the fact i like her
>>152308621
>>152308497or maybe negative x negative makes you positive, aka straight, so now you fall in love with Octavia.
>>152309257American dragon reference
>>152308594Are bisexual tranny freak?
>>152308594mostly the reason why I hate most of the characters of the series is because I see small reflections of me of the past until I learned to be better.Stolas getting the "Woe is me, I'm always the victim" and viv tendency to bend reality to make it "work" is very annoying to someone that learned how I was at fault too in most cases and learned to be better instead of manipulating people around them to feel pity to the point their sins are forgotten.
>>152308951Fuck off Stolitzfag
>>152309384Why are they like this?
>>152308594MR BLITZ
>>152309366The frustrating part is that Viv will never learn her lesson or grow as a person, because she’s a spoiled nepo baby that will never struggle in life, and her characters and writing will always reflect that.
>enter the kitchen>see octavia eating like thiswhat would your response be?
>>152310159>grab my own box of cereal>sit down next to her>also start dumping cereal into my mouth
>>152305330Almost every single episode is either relationship issues or daddy issues. In the case of some like “Exes and Ooh’s”, it’s somehow both.
>>152305350You wanna know the telltale sign? Look at the most prominent "mommy issue's">Octavia's problem is that her mother drove a wedge between her and her father>Charlie's problem is that her mother disappeared which deepened the wedge between her and her father>Blitzo's mother died, leaving him with an abusive father>Moxxie's mother died, leaving him with an abusive father. The mommy issues are literally just there to be contributing factors to the daddy issues rather than anything of their own. Stella openly berates and humiliates Stolas in front of Octavia yet the season 2 finale deliberately writes her as too stupid to put two and two together so they can focus on her daddy issues and avoid blaming Stolas for the parts of their relationship that actually ARE his fault
>>152309931Octavia looks good in white.
Did her old work ZooPhobia ever have such a focus on daddy issues? From what I’ve seen, it only applied to Damian.
>>152310742>and avoid blaming Stolas for the parts of their relationship that actually ARE his faultThat drives me up the wall more than anything else. Octavia has plenty of legitimate grievances against Stolas, enough that she is actually justified keeping her distance from him. But instead of actually addressing those real issues, instead the writers fucking lobotomize her and force her to be angry about the stupidest things solely to give Stolas more uwu sad boy angst.
>>152311024It feels like if the dynamics are a reflection of Vivzie's own daddy issues, then how the show treats Stolas/Blitzo/Lucifer are some kind of insight to how she approaches said daddy issues. "Look how wholesome and caring he is even if he wasn't there for her, it was circumstances beyond his control!", then you have Loona's whole "your dad is trying" thing. One more thing, outside of those three, has anyone noticed that all the other "bad dads" of the show almost seem to exist to solely lower the bar? Like, Paimon, Crimson, and Cash all have one thing in common. They never really seemed to love their kids to begin with. There's never "the dad with serious anger management", or "the over-critical dad who thought he was toughening his kid" or any of those things. It's "has a basic level of humanity and is therefore forgivable" or "unforgivable but never really cared."It feels like deliberately avoided shades of gray because it makes Stolas and Blitzo look good in comparison.
>>152308621So it seems, Buzzer. >>152309725Indeed, it's quite disappointing. >>152309366I've made plenty of regrets, it's simply best to learn from them and move on, It seems Viv and her inner circle have not and will not.
>>152309725>>152311285I'll actually.. somewhat defend her on this. You wanna know the problem here? Vivzie writes to the tune of angst and emotional complexity surrounding emotionally stunted characters. She even called Helluva "gay Bojack Horseman."Yet when you think back to that show or even to that general style of writing. One of the key elements is trusting the audience to sympathize enough with a character's emotionally stunting and continue to follow said character while still allowing them to condemn them for extended periods of times regarding the toxic behavior.Vivzie does not do this and worries that the audience will hold certain characters too in contempt. The result is we see a lot of forced resolutions, artificial heartwarming moments, et cetera so the spiral doesn't go on *too* long, a lot of what were presented to us as major fuck-ups (like Blitzo and Fizz) just turn out to be miscommunication or misunderstanding. Once you lose those kinds of "character seriously fucked up and it sticks" moments, you need to engineer more drama which results in more "misunderstanding" until the characters inevitably all just start looking stupid and self defeating in ways completely irrelevant to the things we find sympathetic about them until boom, we actually dislike them now because they've gone from stunted to stupid
I wonder how being told this by a girl you like must feel like
>>152305330His dad is a piece of shit though
>>152308585Made him eat dogfood at least once.
>>152311767It's euphoric, unforgettable and you'll cherish it for years, Anon.
>>152309051>>152311285
>>152305330Because a fat woman made it
>>152305330It is only an issue if the Dad isn't a piece of shit. Moxxie is right to think his dad is a piece of shit because he is a piece of shit. No issues about it. He came to terms with that, sadly that piece of shit is still his dad.
>>152308322>John K's father was actually abusive and we at least got George Liquor out of it. It'd also probably explain why he's a raving narcissistMay also be the reason he thought it was ok to fuck preteens. John had a couple stories about his dad trying to bang the girls he brought home as a young boy. Its a wonder john managed to do anyyhing with himself given thst most of his stories about his dad were probably true
>>152308396>I also think they fear having an abusive mother/Mommy issues is more open to mockery or written off as misogynyWomen make up most child abuse. It was something like 60/40.
>>152306312Huh. Professional psychologist on 4chan. Who'd da thunk it.
>>152312344>
>>152305330Vivzie takes a very "write what you know" approach to her characters
Long birb gals...
>>152312807Indeed, I love Goetians gals and their sexy legs.
>>152305330Don't many fictional characters have daddy, or parental issues of some sort?
>>152312395Even if Moxxie is right, any impact it might have is cheapened because literally every character has a shitty dad. That's the problem, there is no contrast between the characters for shit like this, Moxxie's dad is not unique in his awfulness so it's literally just case of "yeah, your dad is shit but so is everyone elses".
>>152312894Moxxie, Stolas, Blitzo, Loona, and Octavia. Three to four of these characters are in every episode on average.
