Rick & Morty's decline was brought on by rapidly growing hostility toward its smug reddit sentiment (and Harmon's increasingly bad storytelling) that extended way deeper than one silly fast food tie-in. The cringe factor of that was just a nice smoking gun. If seasons 4-5 of SF suddenly have Charlie "internalizing his deep set traumas" with a therapist and making midwit socioeconomic statements constantly then you can start comparing it to R&M.

Rick and Morty from like 2017 onwards has been pandering to Redditors and their sense of humor while at the same time writing tryhard stories that take themselves way too seriously which attracted autismos who psychoanalized every minor thing about the characters and the plot.
