Why do 80's cartoons get more love and respect than ones from the 90's and 2000's?

Seeing snippets of and having nostalgia for something like Thundercats is easier because it just looks cool and memorable regardless of how much someone actually watched it

These were cartoons made to sell toys, especially big expensive vehicles and building pieces. Kids would battle and mash them all together, so the shows were about big battles in gimmicky changing tanks and planes or with superpowers and deluxe accessories. Nowadays very few toys are sold and most of the money is in "managing the brand", ie, licensing it for video games, movies, and virtual merch like skins. So the shows are more boring.

Not hints at lore or allusions to a bigger story that never comes, but straight forward, clearly defined rules and roles for characters and their setting
