The new ultimate comics did that to an extreme. Every issue had to start a month after the last in world and it was jarring as fuck. 12 issues isn't enough time to tell more than a couple story arcs and a year is gone unless you can sell 2 issues a moth. Not to mention if a character gets sidelined and ages out of their role off page. It would require a lot of long turn planning to do right.

They did, it was DC Comics Earth Two from the Golden Age through the Crisis and Marvel from 1962 to 1968.

Nu-Ultimate (Earth-6160) did that but in the most retarded way possible with the real time countdown for the 2 years until Maker returned because Jonathan Hickman hates writing characters and only cares about worldbuilding on top of still being pissy over how he lost control of Krakoa because he was too much of a pussy to overrule the writers under him who wanted to keep milking it for half a decade (despite outranking them in the writer's room) so that was apparently a stipulation for him to write Nu-USM and one of the biggest gripes besides the sterile character writing was the real time skips that killed the pacing as important events and developments largely happened off-panel.

So IF that happened, I would accept it with certain caveats that restrict that kind of BS in the future.

No, that was 13 year old Lana Lang taking a time travel trip into the 30th century to see Superman Town With His Wife Lois Lane, and before being mind wiped she begs Superman to kiss her once because she is crazy in love with him but knows that that kiss will be the most she'll ever have. It's also a what-if to a what-if.

The real weird Byrne fetish stuff was the original ending to the first series, where Luthor was the Ultra-Humanite all along and successfully kills Clarks entire family in front of him. Then in the end, Superman has been trekking space for a thousand years and Lana, who has not been seen the entire comic, is revealed to have been turned an unaging immortal due to all her weird silver age adventures, and she tracked down Clark in space and they've been banging on his spaceship for the past few centuries because she waited almost a millennia for him and never has been a truer testament for true love. And then they have a threesome with her and Bruce.
