Unironically baffles my mind.

My dad made a mailbox post out of this stuff
I made my mailbox post by sinking an H beam 6 feet into the ground. We’ll see who’s mailbox survives a drunk driver

Your dad made it specifically to break away so he doesn't get sued

For how much these cost nowadays, you could pay someone to weld up whatever you're making from steel for the same price.

They’re great we use them a lot for made to order machines. Much much cheaper than making drawings, sending them to the steel cutting welding and powder coating firms and hope everything is within spec.

Just make very sure that the cutting guy doesn’t leave the channels full of shavings because you’ll have a bad day in more than one way

They don’t survive a hard forklift hit as well as 5mm steel does, but it’s way easier to replace these than it is to get a replacement custom steel part on site.

It’s common it have strange unavailabilities.
Like not selling 1/8 or 1/4" pvc or abs sheet. You know-now that this whole “making things out of plastic” fad has started to catch on.

It’s ridiculously over priced, so it doesn’t matter.
The metal studs are much cheaper and work just as well.

just go to any construction site and raid their roll off dumpster. you can usually find lots of cut off scrap pieces to use for projects.

Akshually!

Feel like steel is already at a tray niche. Unless it needs explicit strength, every machine we get is becoming more of an alu block.

Based. Unistrut is for kings, alu profile is for rich retards with more money than sense. If weight is a concern, why are you trying to make something strong to begin with?

Angle and flat bar is generally more useful than square tubing for building useful shop equipment.

That said the alloy is ideal for industry which uses a shitload for light duty work stations. Heavy duty are often custom fabbed from angle, flat bar and some box tubing.
