Johnny Mnemonic inspired external driveSo I found this thing at Amazon;amazon.com/dp/B0CPNZN9ZNand thought I could make something in the likeness of Johnny Mnemonic's drive . . .
My plans are; - cut a window in the case and drive so zOMG it spiNz! - anodize the exposed drive case (red) and cut a window in that - light-up USB cable
Board inside the drive has a small imperfection . . .
I noticed the board has this little LED that was smashed (not my doing)
Now, I'm no EE, but I do have two hands and a functional /b/rain.How can I figure out what kind of LED I need to replace this with? (hoping for green)Any tips on how I can un/re-solder this thing?
BTW - My plans are; - cut a window in the case and drive so zOMG it spiNz! - anodize the exposed drive case (red) and cut a window in that - light-up USB cable
here's a pics of the first cut-out i've made
and the drive's 'top' is aluminum.i plan on cutting a window in it, and anodizing it red
i have some clear acetate I will cut to fit so the unit is 'sealed' and not exposed to the outside
Neat
>>2820194if you have a steady hand, a hot air gun and some tweezers will let you swap it out. if you only have a soldering iron (ideally with a fine point and not wedge), you can desolder both sides (or use a flush cutter, but make sure not to wreck any pads), and swap out with an led of your choosing. any colour in that footprint will work (very slight power consumptions, but not enough to cause issues)
