By that logic Patek, Lange, Vacheron, ... watches all look awful as well.

I'm not the anon who said that GS all look awful in the first place. (Though I don't like many of their sports watches)
But I do agree that it would be better if all those brands returned to classic sizes.

about to buy my first expensive (for me) watch. i've rocked a casio f91w forever, but, after climbing the corporate sales ladder into a c-suite position, its time. i've budgeted about 15k. this is what im leaning towards. thoughts? my other pick is the rhodium dial with the fluted/jubilee combo.

Is it me or are the Seiko Speedtimers based? I don't usually go for quartz but quartz is just about the only way to get an affordable chronograph with wearable dimensions so maybe I can give it a pass. In person it almost looks small for what it is.

I wonder if they'll continue the legacy of the Milgauss by making more colorful OPs. Now that they have antimagnetic hairsprings the concept of the Milgauss is obsolete, but the biggest thing that drew people to it was always the colors.
>>
>>18088766
>>18088768
The seconds hand makes it look like a watch for manchildren, very tacky

>>
The world is divided into two types of people. People who like the Explorer or people who like the Milgauss
>>

>>
Is there any good reason for Rolex to not put their tool watch clasp on every watch that doesn't have a president bracelet? Pretty much everyone prefers the extra adjustment and keeper.
>>
>>18088776
Yeah I like both. Used to hate both but after seeing them so much I've come around to it
>>
>>18088797
I find there are a lot of watches like that. Sometimes you have to see a watch in person and try it on a few times to really get it. Explorer is a great example of a watch that you have to see in person to get, because in pictures it looks like a really standard watch but in person it's amazing how legible it is and how the markers are so bright and shiny you can read that little watch almost across the room. It's like the purest form of a watch doing everything it needs to do.
>>
>>18088786
What watches don't have it? Only the ones with the hidden clasp, right?
>>
>>18088636
>Ultra-thin movements are the ultimate pill.
>until you actually own one and realize what a pain in the ass they are

What do you mean? I've owned a couple of ultra-thin in my life and I've never had any problems with them that thicker watches didn't have.
>>
>>18088816
OPs and Datejusts and most of the womens watches have the gay smaller clasp with no keeper. The "professional" watches have a nice big comfortable clasp with a keeper and extra adjustment options and is better in pretty much every way unless you want a shorter clasp for some reason. Maybe if you're a microwristlet like many women you'd want a small clasp, but otherwise I don't see it.
>>
>>18088636
What is a pain in the ass about it? Unless we're talking about watches so retardedly thin you could bend the case if you lean on them wrong, which will never be in most people's price point, I can only see upsides to thinner watches.

>>
New Breitling 41mm navitimers dropped, 3 hand and GMT versions are available. Based or cringe?

The tsuyosas confuse me because the small seconds guilloche ones have been out for months but none of the stores in the mall seem to have them in stock. Many don't even seem to stock the originals anymore. Either they're not ordering tsuyosas anymore because they don't sell well, or they're selling like hot cakes and they can't keep them in the cases? But I've never seen anyone wearing them.

Cheapest watch from a great brand.

A company will usually try to make their top of the line piece something special, whereas entry level pieces are made as cheaply as possible to lure in people who just want the brand name.

Obviously the relative weights of the brands matter, like a top of the line Hamilton will never be the equal of a base level Patek, but if the prices are close, the watch from the shittier brand will probably be better.

Depends on the AD. I got mine in 2 months.
A friend of mine got his DJ in 2 weeks with 0 purchase history.
They'll make you wait just because it's part of the whole "buying a Rolex from the AD" thing now. People expect it to happen, but in reality ADs have stock and there's no waiting list for DJ, Explorer or OP anymore.

I'll probably get another black leather strap, but I also want to have the option to put a bracelet on it, I just prefef bracelets in general.

I don't mind a milanese strap, but it isn't my favourite look. Is it possible to get a bracelet, no end links, and put it on a dress watch like this?

>>
>>18090165
>At launch, the Royal Oak looked like nothing that came before it.
There were already integrated bracelet sports watches in steel.
The thing that made the Royal Oak unique was that it was from a company that previously only made gold dress watches.
They invented the idea that a steel sports watch can also be a luxury piece, which happened to be perfectly timed to the 70s, when more casual styles were becoming popular with the upper classes.

The Royal Oak was more like the Porsche Cayenne was to sports car manufacturers.

>>18090187
>There were already integrated bracelet sports watches in steel.

>>
>>18090165

>What were they thinking?

I'm not going to defend its looks, because I don't like it, but it's obvious that they were trying to come up with something new for the brand. Who else of the top-level historic brands has come up with something new lately? PP? New models, but no entirely new line/design language. VC? The reviled Fifty-Six is an old design and it's got an ETA-derived movement.

It's not fair to say it looks like everything because it's not a watch that photographs well. The design, particularly the double-curved crystal and the case construction make it a watch you have to see in person. It doesn't look like anything else, in fact.

From a business perspective, it's not exactly been a failure, they still sell.
>inb4 "Yeah, to get on the list to buy a Jumbo."

People act like because the people at the trade shows didn't immediately drop to their knees in worship then it's a failure. Very few people are still around who where there for the original launch of the Royal Oak but every year the story of its launch gets bigger.

Mistakes they made:
1. bland dials at the start. I know they were trying to highlight the case, but they just made the watch look empty. The complications and the fume dials make the watch look better
2. hyping it way too much. They shouldn't have announced it all ahead of time. Just drop it at the trade shows and let the journalists trip over themselves trying to be the first to have "picked out the next big thing from AP."
>>
>>18090132
Yeah for sure just scour the internet for vintage speidel bracelets in goldtone, they'll match your vintage piece. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a completely worthless vintage watch just for the strap, check auctions on microsites like auctionninja or maxsold
>>
>>18090207
>It's not fair to say it looks like everything because it's not a watch that photographs well
Photographs clearly show that the overall design and shape is extremely derivative.
What doesn't photograph well are textures, reflections, lacquer quality, etc. which are details more than design cues.

>Mistakes they made:
>1. bland dials at the start.
The chronograph is a busy dial, and it looks exactly like any mall watch.

It's just a bad design at heart, and no amount of vajazzle is going to change that.
It's so nauseatingly derivative that it even has the classic 2010s date window placement at 4:30.

I don't think the 11:59 looks derivative. Yes, it's a round watch with strap lugs at 12 and 6, but the sandwich case construction, skeletonized lugs, and the double curved crystal is unique. When it's in your hand, it's actually a really impressive piece.

I'm not an AP acolyte but the only watch I know off the top of my head they released after the Royal Oak was the Offshore, which everyone with taste hates. Am I missing something here? What other good models have they released since then? I liked the millenary but people viewed that as an ugly duckling too
>>
>>18090344
>What other good models have they released since then?
According to AP themselves, the 11.59 was their biggest release since the RO.
>>
>>18090347
Well, it was.

How often have they introduced a whole new model line? The Offshore turned out to be big, but initially that was just a single model that expanded into a line. Even then, it was an evolution of the RO, not a brand new design.
>>
>>18090351
That's exactly the point. AP thought the 11.59 was going to be their new RO, but they forgot to actually give it a unique design.
Instead they took the basic design of a mallwatch and literally polished that turd to hell and back.
>>
>>18090354
>Instead they took the basic design of a mallwatch
How crazy of a design must it be before you don't think it's a mallwatch?
What watch doesn't look like a mallwatch?
>>
>>18090303
You said basically any watch
Any watch
>>
>>18090330
I wonder if that's why they won't do it.

Answer the questions please, if you're able to.

You have eyes, don't you?
>>

That's exactly why they don't. It's the same reason they didn't just join Whoretadello's discord. It's the same reason they can't stay in their own thread.
>>
>>18090369
You're presented with irrefutable visible proof of the fact that the 1159 looks indistinguishable from a mall watch, yet you insist that people argue the point with you.

You're a pilpulling kike
>>
>>18090370
Yes. The two watches that bittercel has posted three times look very, very similar.
The questions, however, were more general.

What watch does NOT look like a mallwatch? That's a pretty straightforward question, isn't it?
>>

>>18090372
>Avoiding the question

I'll answer it for you, anon. Every watch looks like a mallwatch. The difference is the craftsmanship, the materials used, and (obviously) the name on the dial.

Mostly, I agree. Something like >>18090284 is probably not going to be in the watch case at Macy's.
There's only so many designs out there and if it's too outlandish, then no one will want to buy it. The watch industry is usually backward looking anyway, since the hot 'new' watches are often just
>watch from the 60s but with new materials
The differences are all in the little details, but a hobby that obsesses over little details is also going to attract people who sperg out and get enraged over little details.
>>
>>18090374
>What watch does NOT look like a mallwatch? That's a pretty straightforward question, isn't it?
no because that would put him on the defensive. he'd actually be forced to present a watch and demonstrate it's not a mallwatch.
>>
>>18090366
Why don't you post a side shot of those two?

Sorry, schizo.
But I do agree this general needs IDs.

kek so you can see the Royal Oak case profile?

If it did, it would cut down on the bitterposting, but that would make the avatarfagging worse. Either way, the people who want to actually talk about watches would be out of luck.
>>
>>18090391
>kek so you can see the Royal Oak case profile?
exactly.
>>
>>18090393
How do you not see that sandwiching part of the RO in the 11.59 is part of why it's such a joke.
>>
>>18090324
>The watch media called it that, not AP.
LOL
Do you know what 11:59 stands for? It's the last minute before midnight, before "a new day dawns for Audemars Piguet".
They billed this model as AP's grand renaissance.

Bonus tidbit: wanna know why they called it "code"? Because zoomzooms like short words. I wish I was kidding.

No, explain it without using buzzwords.
>>
>>18090306
What's the second crown for?
>>
>>18090393
Why is the crown so far down?
>>
>>18090405
It's a grand sonnerie and carillon. You can switch out the chiming modes.
>>
>>18090401
It's like a good design imprisoned by a bad design.

>killll... mmeeeeeee...
>>
>>18090409
Probably because of the calendar module sitting on top of the base movement. The chronos don't have that.
>>
>>18090411
>carillon
What's that?

Multiple chimes. (two notes instead of one.)

The watch can be set to chime every hour on the hour, every fifteen minutes, or not at all. Plus, it also has the capability to chime out the time whenever you ask it to.
>>
>>18090425
>two notes instead of one
Doesn't a normal sonnerie have two notes already?
>>
>>18090292

is that what being a weaboo is called nowadays
