/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - CHROMEXCEL NOT EVEN ONCE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

For 300 you can get Grant Stone, Allen Edmonds on sale, or Beckett Simonon

https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/nolan-brogue-boots?variant=29574839697487&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=18289239343&utm_content=&utm_term=&gadid=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0MexBhD3ARIsAEI3WHIXNWPWKKv339ExjUHvmNMbdcuvZ0f9mQgapVNYW6A68Nck23AxQTAaAqDxEALw_wcB

Another option is custom from small Asian/Indonesian/Indian bootmakers but that takes a little time and research.
>>
>>18104879
traditional for dress shoes and the thought among even some bespoke makers is that it's more flexible when walking, while providing enough rigidity for a properly balanced low heel shoe, because a steel shank could eventually start digging into your arch (kind of a made up issue imo)
wooden shanks also bond with leather better, while steel shanks need to be wrapped in something or nailed down to not slide around inside the shoe

if you're not climbing ladders it's probably ok, but steel is better overall

There's no general rule. It depends on your climate, how often you wear them, and how often you get them wet/muddy. I live in a wet/muddy/snowy climate and wear my boots in all types of weather. If I only oiled them twice a year they'd be ruined before that year was up.

I'm a size 10 in converse, I wear 43 in another Steinkogler boot and in Clarks. I have wide feet, so your mileage may vary.

The vendors recommend contacting them about sizing, so do inquire about that. You should provide them with foot length and the circumference at the widest part of the foot.

It's worth putting in the effort, since these babies will last you for years.

These are official spanish army boots
They are made by either Iturri, Vidal, or Aura
https://cazaypescaalmonacid.com/es/botas-militares-y-polainas/2068-botas-iturri-ejercito-espanol.html

They can be had for 50/60€ new but you can find them good as new for half those prices from people who finished their service in Spain
https://es.wallapop.com/app/search?filters_source=quick_filters&keywords=botas%20ejercito%20espa%C3%B1ol&max_sale_price=40

My pair is made by iturri and i gotta say they're uncomfortable as fuck unless you're wearing thick socks or layered socks, which is what they're meant for i guess. idk if this is just on iturri boots or on all the others too

They also feel like they're a size bigger than advertised, probably due to the sock thing i mentioned. They fit well if you do wear thick socks or layer them

>>
>>18107600
bro, what do you need bespoke lasts for, when the one last in one width already fit THIS good?
also bespoke patterns? everyone knows a generic service boot pattern is the platonic ideal, also ignore that the lacing quarters are not paralel with the midline of the last, which causes them to shift in relation to each other when worn so that the inner one sits lower than the other on EVERY single one of his boots and he refuses to change it, because it's not an amateurish mistake, it just adds a certain rustic charm to the boot

Honestly, been getting a bit fed up myself with PNW boots.
> Had my MPs for just over a year
> Already started squeaking in both boots when I walk.
> Bakershoe quotes me $200 to add a "squeak cloth" to fix the problem.
> Ship them over from Germany
> They then tell me it'll be $450
> I tell them I wouldn't have sent them over if it'd cost that much so hell no.
> They tell me it'll cost $90 to ship them back.
> I tell them hell no, they're the ones who misquoted me.
> "We'll see what we can do"
and that was over 2 weeks ago so I have to ring these chumps. I'm ending up dealing with Bakershoe, Drew's Boots, and White's at this point.
I bought these boots because I have weird feet. They were the best fitting boots I've ever had but the fact that you can spend $600 on a pair of boots, and they'll fucking squeak after a year blows my mind. All they can say is "oh well that's because of the all leather construction" - well don't fucking use it then.
If you go on /r/pnwbootmakers, everyone says their boots eventually squeak which blows my mind.
So yeah, honestly, I think I'm just going to get some Alden Indy boots because they're just standard goodyearwelted boots with a cork-midsole. Anyone in the world can fix those boots instead of PNWbootmakers' proprietary handstitch/stitchdown construction which is rare, and they won't just start squeaking randomly.

Picked up these Thorogoods today. Felt good in the store, went for about a 1.5 mile walk later and the right feels great but the left rubs my heel pretty badly. Wondering if I should go back and exchange them or if they’ll break in.

I actually loosened it because it sort of felt like the sides of the heel were squeezing, I'll take another small walk in an hour or so and try it full tight.

Right now I'm chalking it up to break-in because the other one feels absolutely fine and to my knowledge my feet are basically symmetrical. Will be doing a lot of landscaping in them so I need it to be comfy all day.

>>
>>18108529 #
Wear them without socks. It might sound nasty but the moisture from your feet will legit help loosen up the leather. I never wear socks and I never have to break in boots for longer than a week.

Sweat itself is actually not bad, it’s the bacteria accumulating. Just change out your insoles everyday and keep your feet clean.

I might be biased cause I hate socks and have tough calluses, but you might find it uncomfortable at first but I swear it works
>>
>>18109332
Nobody's feet are 100% symetrical. My left foot is slightly narrower at the heel and as such I got some heel slip on all my boots when brand new that went away once broken in.

it very much depends on the last, but some heel slip is not too uncommon, it gets better with break in. Alden are known for having narrow fitting heels with wider toeboxes.

What the fuck is this question. It's a boot m8, not a sneaker. Generally a high quality boot on a good last will have little to no heel slip but it varies. Some lasts will fit your foot better than others. Asking if any boot is going to compare to wearing an athletic sneaker while playing basketball (full court!) is just dumb. Of course they don't compare.
>>
>>18110144
why the fuck would you play basketball in boots

the heel counter can be a bitch to break in but they form to you ankle like no other

My fuck buddy’s dog chewed my laces, thankfully not my boots, so I stopped off at red wing and bought some laces but they feel like paper. Who makes actual leather laces? I don’t wanna call up Frank or Viberg for laces.
>>
>>18110144
Probably, honestly.
>source: ran down a purse snatcher in my jewberg 2040s with commando soles
I suspect I would get tore up with blisters on the edges of my feet, though, but that might be because my width is FF. Basketball shoes have way more cushion and give due to the nature of the materials used. I’ve ran at full sprint in Frank’s 7” cross country. It’s not that you can’t, it’s just that there are things better for it. I only ran in my Frank’s because there was a fire, but I was still fine with no blistering or heel slip.

If you are dealing with heel slip in your size, you are not tying your boots tightly enough. Tie them tightly and break them in.

nta but my franks are true to brannock (10.5EE) and fit perfect. also have a pair of nigs and a franks wedge both on the 55 last that are 10EE and feel like they could use a touch extra toe room (with the nigs feeling a width narrower than franks) but some of this is also due to the 55 last not working as well for me as the straighter toe box in franks 1977 last

Potato last vs almond last. On the left Iron Rangers, on the right Trumans on 79 last. IRs are a 9D while Trumans are 9.5D.
Lenghtwise they both fit about the same, but the Trumans are sonewhat roomier in widht, including at the toes in spite of tha almond last theoretically being more prone to crample the toes.
Not the most flattering angle for either boot, anyway.
