Omega could be pretty based if they didn't drop literally all of their appealing watches except for the speedmaster and seamaster lines. They dropped all of the good examples from the constellation and deville and other lines and they're left with a bunch of thick dinner plate shitters.
>>
>>18158256
Yes, that's true. They could streamline their lineup and improve it greatly at the same time.
It's not that Omega produces a TON of different references that's the problem. They've always done that. The problem is that they produce too much shit.
There's nothing wrong with offering a watch in a bunch of different sizes and with a bunch of different colors.

>Constellation
Should go back to being the high-tech, smart casual watch it used to be. This is where all the new technological innovations should go. Importantly, though, nothing that is thicker than 11.5mm should make it past the initial design stage.
>>

GS is cool and has some pretty cool engineering.

I love Nomos’ designs and that they make everything in house. Another cool feat of engineering.

Omega was making these in the 40s and 50s. They made them in 35mm and 37.5mm. The 35mm one was only 6mm thick.

Why the fuck wouldn't you keep making watches like this? It's insane to me they had such high complication watches that small and they just stopped doing it.
>>
>>18158284
Even if they scaled it up a little bit to modernize it and make manufacture a little easier ans give it a little more integrity to the case, if they made this watch 38mm and even 10mm or 11mm thick who the fuck wouldn't want a watch like that?

Do you have that right? Just the movement is 6mm thick? Or does it not include the crystal? If that's real, that's extremely impressive.

>>18158289
I would not mind a watch that was in that general size, then give it a sapphire crystal, screwdown crown, some water resistance, shock and magnetic protection, a little lume, etc. The similar JLC Master Calendar is 10.9mm thick, so that could be a reference point for them.

A couple sources say the 35mm cases were 6mm thick. It's retardedly impressive. I haven't found more info on the larger sizes, surely they're pretty thin too. But of course that surely comes at a cost of having a fragile case with zero water resistance.

Allegedly it did have some magnetic resistance?

I love them because their resurgence happened when I first got into watches and I really wanted the old burgundy BB. So I always had a soft spot for them. They're also just the right amount of exclusive imo.

I never paid them any attention until two weeks ago, tried the Hydroconquest GMT. Absolutely phenomenal watch but I went with the BB obviously.

Of course, nowadays, it's not about the watches (because he realizes everyone knows his watches and no one cares) so it's about shitposting and trying to troll the thread. See, for example, his replica sneakers.

I think it's more because of their autistic ideas of protecting the image of the brand by controlling what their watches look like. That's the reason they won't just let you buy a watch with a jubilee bracelet and pay some extra to get the oyster bracelet too, they make the watches and bracelets so that you can't swap them. They're also known to swap dials and hands and shit on old watches even when they're told not to. Not allowing their customers to scratch up their own watches with spring bar tools is another step in that.

With a prestigious maison like Rolex building a healthy relationship with the authorized retailer is essential and it's part of this hobby of ours.
If you don't have the patience or social skills for that you're better off buying from other houses of horology.

Before the cal. 3235 cuckoldry, I'd have said omega was a cope. Having heard that the new movement rolex has been using has an inherent design flaw that has not been rectified, cannot be rectified, means that I can no longer dunk on swatchmega for the cuckaxial and other related mechanical fails. The fact that the latter is made mostly in china however is still a point against them.

Got me a vintage soviet shitter off a reputable Etsy. Went well for a while, but now it just seems to stand still whenever, even after giving it a flick to nuge itself back alive.
Is it just dry (even after the seller claimed it has been cleaned and oiled), or could something be broken?

What other JLC would you buy though? Datejust cope #1286734? Explorer cope #213474?

I'm not saying reverso is better than this or that, I'm saying if you're entertaining buying a JLC why would you choose a model that is equivalent to every other generic watch ever? JLC made a name for themselves for their impressive movement engineering. A watch that is 2 fucking watches front and back in the same watch and still only 10mm thick, thinner than most watches with one dial and set of complications, that's objectively a remarkable piece. If you just wanted a normal ass watch there are dozens of other companies doing that better.
>>

>What other JLC would you buy though?
I wouldn't buy JLC.
>A watch that is 2 fucking watches front and back in the same watch
Why.
>>
>>18159087
I don't know what your problem is with my choice of JLC watch if you wouldn't buy any JLC in general. Why bother asking which JLC it was if it didn't matter?
>>
>>18159088
Because reverso is shit and my question still stands, why do you need 2 watches in one watch?
>>
>>18159090
Well, the short answer is you don't. But from an engineering perspective it's very impressive, nobody else makes anything like it, and you could argue if each face is a different color it can work for a wider variety of outfits and occasions.

If I just wanted a round 3 hand watch with a date I'd buy a datejust or aquaterra or something. I guess the JLC master collection moonphase would be a good dress watch, but even then there are a million generic moonphase dress watches. Again, the point isn't even that the reverso is amazing, the point is what else would you buy from JLC that everyone else isn't doing?
>>
>>18159097
>the point is what else would you buy from JLC that everyone else isn't doing?

But the vast majority of Rolex buyers are like this. Same as with any other known Swiss watch brand. It’s literally all marketing and brand recognition. Otherwise you’d buy reps, Chinese slop, or a quartz watch. The actual quality of a mechanical watch is meaningless. A Rolex isn’t “worth” 10-15k in terms of materials and construction, but people will pay that much for one when you can get an almost identical clone from China for 4-500$.
>>
>>18159141
There's also the value retention. I know it makes a lot of people cry and seethe thinking of watches as investments, and you shouldn't look at it that way, but the reality is if you can buy a watch and then later sell it in a pinch for as much or more money than you payed for it that is very appealing when we're talking about purchases that cost as much as some cars.

The small second is the most elegant and natural way of adding a complication to a watch, as it's just a hand on the pivot of the fourth wheel. Central second hands = sports watches only.

Exactly. Gen X and younger paying 5- 10x for a watch the Boomers and older paid much less for is crazy.

To take one example using most popular income to inflationary models... the price of a mid Rolex in the 1970s was much more similar to buying a mid to high end Seiko today.
If your ultra rich or a watch dealer it might be different but for the working man and anyone else your delluding yourself.
That's the kind of reason the watch bubble is popped / popping. The inflation in price is discounected from income.

Islander was on my list, pic related.

Was also interested in Farer, which I've seen posts about rarely, and Marloe which just pop up in my ads all the time.
>>
>>18159343
love the colour on this one
>>
>>18159343
Farer is one I'm really interested in but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Their use of colors is interesting and brave even if a bit gay sometimes, and they do some interesting things that almost nobody else does like making applied indexes out of solid blocks of luminous material.

>Maybe a couple years ago, but nowadays even old reference Speedmaster Pros are hard to find in good condition for under 3k USD.
Ok? If I tell you my turd costs $50k will you pay or will you tell me I'm a retard? Why don't you do the same to Omega?
>>
>>18159361
Alright, buddy, we get that you don't like omega, but it doesn't change the reality of what they sell for on the secondary market.
>>
>>18159331
>Some rich german-japanese guy who likes grand Seiko more than Rolex and has sex with Japanese women.
You should just get a tripcode, Whoretadello, so we can filter you.
>>
>>18159340
That's exactly what Marc would say
>>
>>18159250
>My shoes cost this much, my watch cost THIS much!
This is niggerbehavior. Were you guys not kidding when you said Greeks were the niggers of Europe?

Also
>MSRP
If you paid MSRP for a Seiko, you are mouthbreather-tier retarded. If you paid less, you're pathetically trying to make your purchase more impressive. Either way, it's not a good look.
>>
>Whoretadello leaves
>Thread immediately slows to a crawl
Just how much samefagging does this guy actually do?
>>
>>18159356
I love their use of color, I'm looking for something more flamboyant. My whole collection is "stately" right now, and I just want something more "fun". I want something loud, like this.
>>
>>18159371
The Zodiac Sea Wolf has a lot of fun color combinations too.

Or, you could go for something less expensive, like a Swatch or G-Shock if you want to be casual.
>>
>>18159372
I really don't know how Swatch stays in business. $20 Casios have a dozen functions compared to $80-100 Swatches that just tell the time and have a popular cartoon character printed on them.
>>
>>18159372
I hear ya, but most Swatches are too loud even for me. A nice Casio would be a good addition to the collection though.
>>
>>18159250
This thread is about watches not shoes.

Designer shoes are the single most retarded things you can buy. Good quality shoes you can have resoled (redwings) is one thing. Tudor and $1000 per of trainers seriously, thats how I know your broke, like those people with a car that costs a third of the price of their house parked in the drive. Also Prada is for woman or gays.

>>18159362
>>Alright, buddy, we get that you don't like omega
Tard read my posts instead of arguing with an imaginary friend.

>This is niggerbehavior. Were you guys not kidding when you said Greeks were the niggers of Europe?
They have been raped in the ass by Turks for 2000 years so yeah.
>>
>>18159401
>>18159361
>Okay so imagine this completely retarded unrelated scenario, right? Well it proves my point
Kill yourself
Yes if nobody is willing to sell shit for 50k and you can't make it, that's what it's worth
>>
>>18159401
You're fucking wrong. What more is there to say?
>>
>>18159409
A $250 watch isn't a $9k watch idiot. Your problem if you're dumb enough to give them free money.
>>
Keep making up random numbers, retard. It'll never make you less wrong.
>>
>>18159399
Does it stop randomly or change directions?
