Metal makes them look not quite so much like cheap toy watches, people with sensitive skin or latex or whatever allergies don't have to worry about the resin irritating their skin, they're thinner and wear very comfortably, they can even swing around on the wrist a little bit and still be comfortable. The A158 also has regular 18mm lugs so you can put straps on it without needing one of those goofy adapters.

Okay so what is the final consensus on Powermatic 80?
Shitposting aside. If you get the higher end model without the plastic parts in the escapement, it's probably the cheapest chronometer grade movement with a free sprung balance and a silicum hairspring. Doesn't that make it based, dare I say?
>>
>>18166456

>>
>>18166461
Just don't get a Tissot. Come on man, you deserve better.
>>
>>18166461
The Powermatic 80 is the single most important invention in mechanical horology since Roskopf's montre proletaire, and the first edition Tissot Luxury Powermatic 80 Chronometers are future classic. At first many will get discarded as getting them repaired won't be economical or even possible. However, a few decades later they will be regarded as the definitive watches of the first quarter of the 21st century. NOS examples will fetch exorbitant prices rivalling that of contemporary precious metal Rolexes.

Powermatic 80 is fine, nothing that special imo but also nothing that bad. The only problem is the utter ugliness of the watches on which they put the movement.

Why does this thread hate bittercel so much? He is unironically the best poster we have ever had. Here's my reasons:

bittercel is always brutally honest. He is like water, he will find a crack in your watch and pour in from there. He is the criticism we need. You never get that in watchuseek or reddit, you only get an echo chamber of “nice watch, wear it in good health, champ” bullshit. Not with bittercel, he does not care for your feelings which is why he will tell you the truth. Yes, your watch is too big for you, yes it’s a shitter, yes the lugs look like shit, yes the movement is crap. You, as a critically thinking individual, should embrace this.

We are all protected by anonymity here which is the point of this site. Avatarfags are pathetic going against this. Take reversocel for example; he couldn’t handle a bit of heat from bittercel and immediately fucked off to r/watches as soon as someone wasn’t sucking his cock over his shitters and pens lmfao.

Yes, bittercel may seem bitter at first, but he is the counter force to all this circle-jerking in here. He is harsh but fair. You hold the fact he never posts a watch against him, but that is merely him not taking a side. He is not a brain-dead fanboy to brands (other than Rolex, but Rolex is Rolex). This way he maintains his unbiased position.

And the best part of bittercel? He is always there for, right here, in this thread.

It's okay. It's a modded 2824 at the end of the day.
The use of a lower frequency to increase the power reserve is a bit lame as it chops up the flow of the seconds hand but it's up to you to see if that bothers your autism more than a low power reserve does.
Silicon escapement parts could become a problem on the long term but you don't see anyone say that about the many high end brands using silicon hairsprings, or the Valfleurier/Richemong Group movements that are also moving towards silicon escapements (some Panerai movements have it already IIRC, meaning some IWC also could since they basically use the same bases in some cases).
It seems everyone got spooked by new materials making it into a wide distribution consumer movement rather than highe end pieces your average watchmaker and watch collector will never see. Hence a lot of claims of it being impossible to work on and disposable, all of which are turning out to be false over time.
The Sistem 51 is the real shitter that must be contained within Swatch and never leave at any cost. That one actually can't be worked on. Bridges are set in placethere's only one screw for the rotor and that's it. And Swatch in this case isn't even trying to hide the fact that it's completely disposable.
Even if you're worried about the Powermatic being disposable, you can always leave it for service at an independent watchmaker who, if he isn't a complete hack, will be able to work on it (only risk being the longevity of the escapement but if it can't survive a single service then that means the whole movement is an avalanche of very angry owners waiting to happen) whereas the Sistem 51 can't even be disassembled at all.
>tl:dr
It's fine and we have to hope it stays fine over time, otherwise it will go the way of Tissot's prior experiments in plastic parts
And fuck the Sistem 51
>>
>>18166496
Thank you sir.
Is there any way of knowing which pm80 has the plastic parts? Or do you have to get a chronometer one to avoid that?
>>
>>18166496
NTC but the 51 is, always will be, and was meant to be a mechanical gimmick, no need to take that into account.

You're a stupid idiot moron shill who doesn't know what he's talking about and is wrong about everything. I watched a minute-long clip of Kalle from Chronoglide saying "it's a plastic piece of crap" .

>On page 122, Donzé explains that the British government denied export visas for Hans Wilsdorf’s watches on the basis of his sympathy for the Nazi regime. Wilsdorf was a British citizen of German origin. The suspicion stemmed from the allegation that his brother was active within the German Ministry of Propaganda. A Geneva police report subsequently stated that Hans Wilsdorf, while not active in propaganda himself, was a “fervent admirer” of Hitler’s regime.

It's literally a nothingburger. Of course a suspicion is justified. Nonetheless Rolex never supplied the Nazi's with their watches, that's a fact, regardless of what personal opinions Wilsdorf had.

Okay so Rolex is not based anymore.

All based.
