I wear a sterling silver bracelet on my right wrist all the time (I literally never take it off, I shower with it, I sleep with it)
I recently came across a beautiful Orient Sun and Moon (picrel) and I wanted to buy it, but it's in rose gold (or at least it's coloured like that). I was always told to match my metals so I was apprehensive to get it, should I?
And yes, the store did have a similar watch but in a silver steel colour. That never popped to me so idk

They will react to UV light, thus glowing under it, but they don't glow like normal superluminova. Apparently Omega did this for their Flightmasters as well, since it would illuminate the hands when flying if you have a UV lamp above (or, as I like to think, in a submarine below the water). But I don't know for sure why they did this. Granted, the colours will 'pop' when under water on a sunny day...maybe that's why.

>>18176058
Thanks - yeah, lots of 2599.80s on Chrono24. They were a flagship model for Omega when they first arrived in 1993/1994, but these days they are a steal for the engineering that was put into them. They were the first chronographs Omega produced that could be used at extreme depth underwater (i.e. you can use the chronograph when fully submerged). But these ones were also my favorite watch as a kid, so I had to have one.

>>18176088
Bless you, fellow 0100-Chad. Is it running well? Do you have a special day of the year to set it, like I do?

Nice to see you DrunkHamiltonAnon! How are you?

Well Gentlemen, it is the end. My final watch came in this afternoon, and it's perfect. Bonus points to those of you who can guess what it is: here's a Lume shot of the new watch with my 2254.50 on the right...the two share many things in common, surprisingly. In my eyes, it is the perfect watch, in every way, from every angle, at every magnification. Buy what you love, Frens, and to hell with the rest!

Mixing color is fine but keep in mind the Orient Sun & Moon models are thick as fuck and really uncomfortable to wear.

>But a 48mm lug-to-lug? What were the Germans thinking?
They wanted long, gracefully tapering lugs. It's a design choice.
The lugs don't stick straight out, though, they do curve down, so they follow the curve of the wrist.

If that means it doesn't fit your girlfriend's slender wrist, sorry. I don't think this was marketed as a women's watch, though.

I have Orient Sun&Moon limited edition (rose gold + blue)
Don't listen to the other retards, it's not thick or uncomfortable, it's a gorgeous watch and irl I keep getting compliments, especially from girls. It looks way more expensive in reality than it is
And the colors look good with almost anything, even though it's true that the blue (that your model doesn't have, so it will be matched even easier) matches better with my blue suit than my black clothes I wear usually. The rose gold is not a problem to match with other metals.

It literally looks so good that when I went into my local watch shop to pick something nicer, I had to look for watches that cost $4000+ otherwise it would all look worse. Like, I would wear my Orient over most of those other watches.

Need watch suggestions.

Want a watch, something like an f91w. Want it to be cheap, it's for a festival so needs to be something not worth robbing. Under £50 ideally. Needs a stopwatch function that tracks 10+ hours and minutes, not just the 60 minute stopwatch. Also needs to be quite durable and splashproof. Give me suggestions.

Are there any casio digital watches that are pleasant to wear during summer? I've mostly got metal ones but the sweat my skin makes when touching metal at 25+ degrees makes them unbearable to wear.

>>
>>18177049
Here's the secret that /wt/ will absolutely fucking hate. (Which also means it's right.)

You only need two watches: an Apple Watch and a really killer dress watch.
For daily wear, an Apple Watch, potentially on a nice leather strap, like an Hermes or something is unassailable. Nerds will screech about something or other, but no one serious will actually care.

For those instances where you want to dress a little fancier, that's when you put on your good watch. Just wear them under the cuff. The people who need to know what they are will notice
Because dress watches aren't popular, you can get something in precious metal from a top-tier brand for under 10k USD. Cartier Tank LC, AP Jules Audemars, VC Patrimony, Piaget Altiplano, Breguet Classique, etc.

You might be able to find a solid gold dress watch under 10k from some shit-tier brands like Baume & Mercier or Frederique Constant, but they'll be 40mm.
What you're looking for pretty much disappeared in the 1990s. If I were you I'd look for neo-vintage, you can find some cool JLC, JLC or Breguet under 10k that tick all the boxes.

>>18177225
Love this model; have been looking to pick one up, but they're all in awful condition or 'restored'. You're lucky to have one all original; keep it, wear it, and make sure the movement is serviced regularly (it's a great movement and should keep excellent time). Wear it in good health Fren; the dial and hands configuration is essentially perfect in proportion.

>>18177233
Love them, have 2 excellent ones. I wear them with my 3-piece's during certain parts of the year.

>>18177309
That's okay. I don't love most of them either, but this one to me is the epitome of what it should be. I hate numerals, I hate extra writing, I hate anything that makes the dial unbalanced or that fucks with the symmetry (the numerals are notorious for this if you look at the spacing and weight of the left vs. right). This model was the only one that I could find that satisfied my requirements, aside from actually going vintage. It's also the only model of any modern house that I think did the correct version of 'faux-tina'. It's subtle, and astonishingly beautiful (it's like ivory colour).

Funny. For me, picrel is what a Reverso is. I think it's probably comes down to age. Silver guilloche dial with numerals has been the classic Reverso as long as I've been alive, but I'm sure for older collectors, that's not the case.

Like how some other anon was talking about Cartier watches being recognized by different age groups.

Join the discussion Fren; what watch are you wearing today?

>>18177328
It's not a 'dress watch', though I think today people use it as one. It's a sports watch, made for polo players...just the way it was meant to be.

>>18177331
An interesting and absolutely correct assessment. What I love about yours is the small second's subdial, which correctly preserves the golden ratio that is throughout the rest of the dial; if I wanted a Reverso with small seconds, yours would be very high up on the list. The numerals, sadly, still make me a little concerned; the 10 and 11 make the upper left quadrant very 'heavy' as opposed to the upper right quadrant, which looks almost empty or weightless by comparison. This cannot be avoided with JLC numerals, as they are designed to be consistent with Art Deco and are definitely correct in terms of comprehensive design. So, it's a tradeoff for me; if I want the full numerals, I'd have to accept the weight differential. One of the reasons I always prefer them with the hour plots.

Is yours running well? It looks like you're wearing it a lot and enjoying it; that's what these watches deserve. Given that mine is freshly delivered, I may send it into JLC soon for a service, as I have no idea of the service history of this one. The owner obviously took care of it, but beyond that I have no idea if it was worn hard.

>>18177335
Exactly. The great thing about this design is that it is an honest homage to the first one.

>>18177341
>>18177344

"The Reverso is ackchyually the first sports watch" is the most midwit take of the watch community. Unironically nobody ever said that before s0ÿ YouTubers like Adrian Barker and that ugly bong from Watchfinder started to push this dumb meme.

The Reverso is a traditional 1930s watch with 0 shock resistance, mounted on a frame. I can assure nobody ever wore a Reverso while playing polo, and honestly you'd have to be a complete moron to believe this. The movement would break the second a player would swing the hammer.
It was a luxury "Art Deco" item marketed from the start, and the whole point of that gimmick was to have it engraved.

"Sports watches" is a post-WW2 thing. Before that, people simply took off their watches.

>>18177378
I'm undecided on that. In the same way that I would never get a tattoo because I can't decide on a design that I'd love '4 life', getting a watch 'branded' has always bothered me. We'll see after I send it in for servicing, as I could ask them to do it at that time if I so chose.

>>18177379
Who is Frank? Also, I've posted them many times before. Are you new here? What watch are you wearing today, Fren?

>>18177398
I haven't read anything to contradict the origin story from JLC, so I'll accept it until something more documented comes up. Your assurances however are not comforting:

>I can assure...

I have a colleague who plays polo rather regularly, and he bought a simple reverso decades ago for the purpose. He doesn't wear it on his mallet wrist; no one would. Last time I saw it, the 'reverso' side was admittedly scratched to hell, but the dial side was nice and clean.

Twisting a crown isn't dextrous work. You spend 99.9999 percent of your time with a watch wearing it, you can spend the rest of the 0.00001 of the time winding with your left fingers if it means wearing a more comfortable watch.
>>
>>18177683
Most people have no issue with wearing a watch with the crown on the right and will prefer to operate the crown, a relatively small and delicate object, with their dominant hand. It’s perfectly sensible most watches have the crown on the right side. If you dislike it, buy one with the crown on the left or at 4 or 5 o’clock, I think those can be found too

What are the best websites to buy watches, other than chrono24?

Nah it’ just that the subject, preference in crown placement, is a bit gay.

Look, am I saying it's the best watch store? No, I'm not saying that, but what I am saying is that they have a meticulously curated collection that's always changing, there's always something new to see there, ya know? And they have the best selection of exotic straps that there is. Period end.

I want to buy a 2254 that's available in my local watch market thing.
How careful do I have to be about fakes?
I remember seeing, about over a decade ago, that there were in-fact fake 2254's. Externally it seems fine, box+papers etc.
Should I still meet the guy and pay the 27USD equivalent to let a watchmaker open it up and make sure it's a legit cal.1120?

How versatile is a Diver? Can it be worn in a dressy or more minimalistic outfit? What about something like with Sprezzatura or Ivy/Prep/Dark academia?
>>
Anyone here have experience with Redwood watches? How are they?

Dressy, yes; minimalistic, not really.

Stop ingurgitating memes.

never measured it but I don't have a large wrist

The Italians and the French have been wearing divers with tailoring since the 1950s.
Obviously it depends of the outfit, the watch and the man.

They look good but customers say they're too loud with the ticking, and in general they feel cheap, which is not a good thing.

True, but the correct term is Baroque. Caravaggio would paint something like that, not Raffaello.

I'd bet you he probably swims as part of his fitness routine. Not that that's why he's wearing a dive watch necessarily, but still.

I hate the mr-g casioak. I like the original one but the mr-g model has an annoying second hand that ticks once a second and has less functionality than the original. I would rather buy a decent mechanical watch for the same price. The one on the right is ugly as sin so I would not buy that either.
