The Fragrance Groups 101 Chart
The Fragrance Flowchart for Beginners
I'm done with "challenging" stuff I just want to smell amazing and expensiveCan anyone suggest good frags that are appropriate for warmer weather? I like Bal d'Afrique but it's kind of boring and the performance sucks. GIT is my favorite fresh fragrance but it also doesn't perform at all which is a shame (and no CW isn't a good alternative, it smells low quality and screechy compared to GIT's greener, more crisp profile)
>>18774331Bon MonsieurFougere L'AubeMousse IllumineeTarghee Forest
>>18774332Not at all what I'm looking for but thanks anyway
>>18774325Eau des Baux is my GOAT but the faggots over at L'Occitane replaced it with Cèdre Encens. It was a present from my father and now that it's discontinued I have to be even more frugal with it.
>>18774331>challenging stuff >warmer weather
>>18774341Challenging as opposed to universally pleasing. I just want to smell great to myself (and others) at this point
>>18774342Most fragrances for warmer weather are mass appealing. Which challenging warm weather fragrances are you talking about?
>>18774343Kouros, Risvelium, AdS, old school fougeres, etcBy the way anything that doesn't smell downright attractive is challenging to normalfags. Obviously to someone who's into fragrances the only "challenging" stuff would be artisanal ouds or memes like Spinal Fluid. So I'm using the former definition because I'm not autistic
Every morning my dad applies this shit liberally and it is the loudest fucking scent imaginable. It announces itself, and it sticks. I've taken to putting a towel under my door and burning scented candles like I'm smoking weed. Part of me thought maybe he was doing the Middle School Axe Overuse thing with Polo Green, but now I think the scent is just announces itself that hard. I know in my room when he applies it in his. Often that shit wakes me the fuck up while it's still dark. I've heard it described as "maculine." I've heard it described as offensive to "modern noses." I've also heard that it's been reformulated and that the new shit falls short. I have no idea. Maybe masculinity itself has changed. Maybe this scent was for an era when you could also smell someone's burning cigarette from 25 feet away on their suit, with Polo Green intended to linger atop it with its notes of tobacco. Maybe the scent is *missing* something in the absence of a cigarette. My dad has worn this shit his whole life and it has never before evoked this reaction from me. Perhaps this scent *is* masculine, but it's for the kind of man who would have his speakers up all the way playing his personal theme song everywhere he went. I've heard it described as "money scented," and it is, like cigarette ash on the industrially-washed carpet of a 1980's casino.

Beautiful sunny autumn day, yet with a light breeze.SOTD: Dior Homme Original
Last thread was pretty classic
>>18774370was thinking of putting on some iris but went with Antaeus today. really nice day outside and would rather not be working
Anyone have experience with Korres? I loved Oceanic Amber and it quickly became my daily all throughout the summer. I'm looking for a fall/winter equivalent that I can rock daily since they are pretty cheap and I won't weep with every spray, but so far their other options seem pretty generic
>>18774345You might not be autistic but you're stupid and wrong if you think Kouros and fougeres are warm weather fragrances. I get compliments on both, they are not challenging even to normalfags. Warm weather fragrances are the most casual and mass appealing category of fragrances. You can pick any of them up and they will be appealing.
>>18774394Kouros is a warm weather frag tho
>>18774394Normalfags think your fougeres and pissy kouros/antaeus smell dated and like old people.

I fell for arab meme again, how do I get this shit off my skin I don't want to smell it anymore
I'm waiting for black friday and christmas sales desu, if even that doesn't make me want to buy frags, I guess it's safe to say I beat the spending "addiction". It's still fun to test and smell new things, but somehow it doesn't always mean I want it on myself.Went to a department store and the employee girl who was sort of cute but above my league really wanted to get me to spend. Recommended Armani I Will, "yeah already know it has a vanilla base", the new Valentino, and Paradigme, I said "yeah tested those already". She left then for other customers.Should have said>which one would mean a successful date with youbut alas I'm on 4chan, so it's not my ballpark.
>>18774395It isn't.
>>18774403Nope, Kouros smells pretty fresh and floral and people say they like it. I was surprised too.
Thoughts on Le Labo? Got introduced to it bc my gym has their soaps in the locker rooms, and they're really great. I haven't checked out their fragrances yet.
>>18774405Tested Tyrenum and it smelled like the marine/aromatic frag of my dreams. Their frags are good, but there are cheaper and sometimes more interesting alternatives, even in the niche/masstige pricepoint like Gritti and some Regalien frags. Would rather get an AdP and a TF or an Orto Parisi for the price of a Tiziana>>18774503Nah, most salespeople are paid to be nice or even flirtatious with the customers in order to make them spend. But you never know, next time take your shot anon, worst that can happen is you carry the shame of rejection for a few days.>SOTD Yatagan
>>18774529Very overpriced with poor longevity.
>>18774503i dont believe true sales exist. things are pretty much "on sale" for the same price all year long
>>18774361Normally I scoff at people who post this shit, but your dad is>based
>>18774403I get the whole ‘pissy’ thing with Kouros (even tho I register it as more body odor-ish than urinous) but I don’t get this at all from Antaeus. Perhaps it’s a vintage thing, but the modern bottles don’t have it at all (to my nose). It’s more… sour leather?>>18774466It’s definitely excellent, but I didn’t have too much issue with strength, could be a skin chemistry difference. >>18774503I wouldn’t get your hopes up for BF sales, most gray market places are already working on (somewhat) thin profit margins. The only things that will really go on ‘sale’ is the shit no one wants, because if people want it, they know they don’t need to further discount it to encourage sales. The age of Black Friday sales is dead. Also, while the “which one would mean a successful date with you” would be hilariously brave and bold (which most women value) hitting on sales associates is a waste of time. It’s like hitting on a stripper, it’s in their best interest to keep you interested and invested. It’s quite literally their job to get you to spend money. Two very different products, but the end result is the same, they’ll say and do almost anything to get you to keep spending and then their job is over.

got around to finally trying Dior Homme Parfum today. it's quite nice. simple, clean, elegant. reminds me a bit of Prada L'Homme, but less soapy. might cop in the future
Been an interesting week, /frag/>Scent of Yesterday: A Whiff of Waffle ConeGawd DAYUM people love this. I know frag hates sweet gourmands in general, and there’s the one dude here who loathes IA (or maybe it’s just he loathes jews? w/e) but normies (and myself) absolutely love it. Got multiple comments and compliments throughout the day. Work with a lovely older lady who lost her sense of smell over the past few years and this frag is one of the few things she can still smell, any time I wear it she rants and raves about it. Referred to me as the king of colognes or scents or something like that, definitely put a smile on my face. Then today, walked into the locker room in the morning and thought to myself… “Wow, it smells like Le Male in here… like lavender and something sweet.” which is unusual because usually I’m one of the only people to wear fragrance. Go about my day and eventually catch another whiff of it in my work area when someone walks by. Eventually ask him what it is and he stumbles at first thinking “Gold something…?” Then finally he’s like, the one with the torso bottle. And I was like“Oh, gold torso bottle? Le Male, Elixir.”“Oh yeah! That’s it!”So anyway, I’m just kind of impressed with myself that I was able to correctly (mostly anyway) blind guess a frag in the air - and then even confirm it. >Thank you for reading my blogpost>Thanks for coming to my TED talk>And remember to have your pets spayed or neutered

Got a bottle of Guerlain Chamade. It a shame something so amazing smelling as this is so dated and old fashioned. It starts green and snappy but it is very powdery, floral, and spicy. It settles into the smoothest, gentlest, amber and vanilla. The comparison to Chanel No. 19 is way off, unless the modern formulations have gotten closer. No. 19 is a crispier and biting green while Chamade is much more powdery and soft. Chamade is closer to vintage No. 5. Chamade's performance is not great, it stays pretty close to the skin after the first hour or so. It rarely comes to you and you have to seek it out. It's ok for such a cozy scent, maybe something to wear to bed. It's a bit too dated for me to wear out but I might wear it for myself or gift it to my mom.
>>18774615just because it has good performance doesnt make it offensive
>>18774632Bois Imperial is both, it's synthetic, screechy, and cheap smelling.
I wanna sample only 2 of these, which ones do I pick? The Dark Side, Under My Skin, The Black Knight, The Lover's Tale
>>18774659the black knight is the only one ive tried and its incredible. the only problem is that i dont really know what situation id wear it in but its a must try if you enjoy daring leather fragrances. its smells so disgusting in the best way possible
Seriously impressed by Sunrise on the Red Sand Dunes. To my nose it's 90% similar to Imagination, if not even more. The opening is very harsh but only lasts for a minute, and the tea accord is slightly, slightly more muddled, but unless you were literally sampling them side by side I don't think you'd notice. Performance wasn't awful, either - one spray, 5 hours walking around outside on a hot and sunny day and I could still smell it on my wrist from 8-10" away. At what, $20 bucks or so per 100mL, I wouldn't even think twice about decanting this into a little travel spray bottle to reapply throughout the day or just overspraying like an Armenian cabbie. Well fucking done, Zara. I also had a chance to finally sample Le Labo... damn, that was disappointing. Another 13 was exceptional, I'll give them that, but everything else? The Noir smelled like an old granny's house, not the sweet kind but the kind that was successful or important in her youth but never got the memo that she's old and kooky now and all her friends are dead, that kind of granny. Santal 33... barely smelled like anything at all. The rest smelled like shit you could make with a playset of essential oils from Amazon, these niggers are out of their mind charging the prices they do for their shit.
>>18774527it is
>>18774615It got reformulated, performance is merely "good" nowadays.>>18774633What would you recommend instead for >>18774577?
>>18774577Yes>>18774584I'd rather wear TdH EDT or encre noire a l'Extreme personally for a daily woody fragrance
>>18774720Terre d'Hermes is the most boring inoffensive fragrance I can think of that would work for anything. Not as universal but less boring are Mugler Cologne, Premier Figuier, or Cologne Bigarade. Personally I rather underspray something that I find more interesting than wear something boring. When in doubt I usually reach for Dans Tes Bras or Purple Oud, sure they don't fit everything perfectly but nobody else will smell them if I underspray and I still get to smell something exciting through the day. Usually I'm more daring and wear whatever I want.
>>18774747I have some interesting frags but I find myself wanting more and more something universally pleasant that I can just wear most of the timeUnfortunately I don't like TdH. I think BI is just my best option
>>18774754If it works for you that's great but I don't find it pleasant at all. You weren't asking for something inoffensive, you were asking for something you liked which made your question pointless since only you could answer that. BI is not any less offensive or universal than anything else I mentioned.
>>18774756Yeah for some reason it seems polarizing. On one hand most people find it attractive and interesting but some think it smells like bug spray. I guess no fragrance will ever be attractive to absolutely everyone anyway
>>18774466yes it's goated, I get 12+ hrs longevity from my 7-8 yrs old bottle>>18774577overplayed, but yes
>>18774554The old one was quite different. A darker black leather take on the dna with some rose oud elements

Thoughts on the ADG line?
>>18774802Perfect way to smell like an air freshener
I'm going to overspray Silver Oud tonight.
>>18774802Painfully generic, boring sephoraslop
>>18774802People with their heads in their asses will hate on it for being popular, but it really is an enduring and beloved scent. You should ignore people who lack perspective and having something to prove, like these guys. >>18774819>>18774832
>>18774802I have the Profondo, I like the smell even though I usually don't like marine smells but it lasts only an hour or two (or maybe I just go noseblind) so I tend not to go for it too often
Anything cool from Jovoy? I was eyeing Private Label and Pavillon Rouge.
>>18774833I'm not hating on it for being popular, redditor. I'm saying it's generic. Furthermore, its performance sucks ass. It has no redeeming qualities at all. There are other popular aquatics or marine scents that aren't painfully boring while also lasting as long as an EDC. The Kenzo line, Bvlgari Aqva, CW/GIT and others.
Are Xerjoff and Sospiro correlated? They seem to have some very similar frags, which one is better?
>>18774843Xerjoff, Sospiro and Casamorati are the sameAll have good stuff and bad stuff. People here will shit on them because of the masstige meme but almost everything I've tried from Xerjoff has been very well-blended and complex
>>18774845I meant like let's say I want to sample Accento or Erba Pura, both Xerjoff and Sospiro have it, which one do I sample or does it not matter?
>>18774846They're essentially the same thing, might be minor differences in batches maybe but the scent profile is the same, just moved to another brand
>>18774845>>18774847NTA, but you mean the same as in Montale and Mancera, or PdM and Initio?
>>18774849Yeah they're all Sergio Momo's brands
>>18774802They're good frags but the base AdG line really is disappointing when it comes to fixation and innovation, and I'm not hating like the other guys in the thread, I really think you could just get a cheap cologne that does the same job(like what >>18774839 said). Would rather just get Light Blue EDT.>Profondo flankersNow, this is where the fun begins. Don't bother with the EDT, it's just Armani's Light Blue, go for EDP or Parfum(specially Parfum) and it's one of the best marine/aromatic designer frags in that pricepoint, two sprays to last a whole day so even the 50ml will last forever.
>>18774659Black Knight and Under my Skin.I'd also make a case for Veloptuous Oud and Etruscan Water
>Parisian Musc came in the mailwhat a sick frag. so good to finally have a fig frag that actually lasts and projects.
>>18774920Where's the fig in it
>>18774946it's not listed in the notes but it's very prominent when you smell it imo
>>18774833Maybe it was cool when it came out but it's been knocked off by so many drug store fragrances and toilet sprays that it just smells cheap and generic to me. Probably not ADG's fault
>>18774970Thanks I might get a sample, I really liked Debaser
>>18774486All arab-made arab frags are sweet versions of better western frags. The only good ones are where they straight up hire a western nose to build them a fragrance. 1) Musamam black intense 2) Teriaq Intense and even these are quite sweet (though sufficiently balanced)
>>18775019>The only good ones are where they straight up hire a western nose to build them a fragrance.Speaking of, I noticed Sieuzac put his name on a bunch of gulfshit. For ex. Moonstone Noire, which is supposedly like Bvlgari Black. I have to wonder if he had any real involvement as a perfumer or if it was more of a "consultant" kind of role.

>be me>take a shower>apply soap on my armpits>still smell badWhat should I do? Shave my armpits? I don't to get cancer by wearing deodorant.
>>18775134Yeah, it's good, strong, and pretty unique as well. You should buy the PdE full lilne discovery set.
>>18775139>apply soap on my armpits>still smell badThat's because you just wiped your armpits' bacterial biome so the bacteria that grows first and fastest is the one that smells the worst. There is no reason to wash your armpits. Just rinse them with water at most and dry them well. If you're going to be around people and engaging in physical activity like dancing just put a little bit of baking soda on your armpits and they will not stink. Just don't do it too often with large amounts, a little goes a long way. It's also not necessary if you're not sweating too much or if you're not going to be close to people.tldr: don't wash your armpits with soap, water wash and dry
Intrigued by le labo, do some of their scents have actual density and staying power or is it all airy atmospheric bullshit?
>>18775153This is insane advice. If I don’t wash my armpits with soap, they will smell instantly after I come out of the shower.
>>18775134yes, it's great
Recently I've tried JPG Le Male Elixir Absolu - smells like soap with lavender. Fragrantica described the perfume like one of the biggest achievements in JPG perfumes. Youtubers described it as Elixir but better, more refined, for dudes in their 30s. But in my opinion it's like having a bath with lavender soap. I mean why is it so flat and dull.
>>18775174Because the people reviewing the latest Le Male flankers on Fragrantica are the target audience for the newest Le Male flanker, retard
>>18775177Is there a better Fragrantica alternative?
>>18775155It's not advice. It's how your armpits work. It's no different than your gut bacteria. Using soap on your armpits is no different than drinking pure alcohol or bleach on an empty stomach. Your armpits are home bacteria. It's up to you if you want to nuke them all allowing fast growing and foul smelling bacteria to grow, or to allow a healthy biome of bacteria that literally doesn't smell because there isn't out of control bacteria making you stink.I don't know what else to tell you. You have the solution to your problem. You can ask anybody around if their armpits stink after they exit the shower and if they use soap on their armpits. Those who use soap will stink, those who don't, wont. Feel free to continue with your problemand your stinking armpits.

>>18774626mitsoukoI got a bottle of Guerlain Mitsouko. It starts with a similar Guerlain boozy note from the sweet woods and spices. You also get a little bit of smoke and aromatics. It settles into the peachy note, soft and cozy. I don't consider the peach note very fruity, it's not fresh and juicy but fuzzy and soft. It's surprisingly sweet but not in a modern gourmandy or overbearing way, enough to smoothen it out. Interestingly I noticed the floral more in the base. The performance starts great, it blasts you but after an hour it tamps down but you still get whiffs of it for hours after. It's a little dated but not as dated as Chamade, or Chanel No. 5. I find it wearable for certain occasions even if it's a little feminine. The biggest revelation is how much it reminds me of Derby. I hear Derby is supposed to be a reference to Guerlain's history so the similarity to Mitsouko makes sense. The sweet woody spice notes are eerily similar, especially the booziness. I find Mitsouko does what it does so well and it's so captivating. Derby is all over the place and sharper while it focusing more on the woodiness. Clearly not the same fragrance but even without taking into account the ridiculous prices for Derby, I think Mitsouko is a fun placeholder that is honestly better in most ways. For some reason I thought Mitsouko would be a harsh chypre but it's very soft and gentle. Goes well with a cool evening rain.

>>18775544more wearable Oud Satin Mood
I layered my two stinkiest fragrances, Leather Oud and Kouros. I know layering is stupid but it was a fun experiment. The outcome was not good, the sweetness and civet from both became too radiant and overwhelming. The cardamom and beeswax of Leather Oud was present but the powdery fresh florals of Kouros were not a good contrast. Now, 4 hours later, what remains is the powdery musk of Kouros with the musk you get from Leather Oud at the base. This is what I thought the outcome would be from the start but it doesn't have much projection left. It's a nice stinky powdery musk but not better than the individual fragrances and definitely not worth what you have to endure.

>>18775587This anon >>18775594 is spot on. I would go further on to say that the notes and accords you see online are not always accurate. Even the notes and accords you get from the official brand are marketing. A perfume can list 3 notes and have dozens if not hundreds of synthetic and natural ingredients. Try things in person, if you find something you like look for things from the same perfumer, same brand, and similar perfumes. Never forget to have fun and enjoy yourself. Your nose is one of a kind.

>>18775792>>18775805Weird thing happened with Terralba to me. When I sprayed it for the first time it smelled amazing, best thing I've ever smelled. Then I didn't spray it again for an entire month. Second time I used it (a month later), it spelled like kitchen spices, literally nothing like the first time. And it never went back to smelling how it originally did. Idk wtf happend. Is Terralba's real smell the really good one from when I sprayed it for the first time or is it the shitty kitchen spices one that it turned into? I have no idea lol. I'll need to try someone else's bottle one day to figure it out. Anyways, I don't count Terralba as one of the four good ones because of that but if it's supposed to smell how it did the first time then it might be my favorite of all time. >>18775978>>18775985i never understood the point of these claims. brands aren't factions you need to be fully aligned with. you can like a couple frags, or even a single one, from the brand and call it a day. looking at the comparisons made here, i can't really agree with most the claims but it's also fairly subjective at the end of the day. me personally, i own a mix of nivhe, designer and masstige because i happen to like those specific frags. the brand and DNA is irrelevant to me because i look at it on a case by case basis

>>18776121If you don't think his best are LADDM and Phi you're just a contrarian
>>18776116Similar in breadth to how in the perfume world, you can get a cheap fragrance that brutally mogs something 6x the price. Sometimes you can strike it good with cheaper eyewear. I've even got a Chinese 1:1 copy of a Gentle Monster frame that's still at least some kind of pig titanium and nobody can tell the difference on face. But others are, more often than not, designed in such a way that the stress points (mainly hinges or bridge welds) will likely give out after about a year or more of use (think Specsavers). Which plays into the planned obsolescence of getting a new eyetest and a new pair of specs every year. However, with quality (non mass produced luxottica) eyewear, ergonomics, materials, construction are all (usually) optimised to the point where it can ostensibly last you a lifetime. Gold elements on frames turn it into a statement, and essentially a piece of jewellery. Titanium for example does not rust. The highest grade of Japanese titanium is the pinnacle. No rusting, keeps form, stronger and much lighter than steel. Silver elements embedded into premium acetate become a work of art that is hard to reproduce -- think Chromehearts. You've also got buffalo horn, ebony, leather, a lot of natural materials that add a sense of rustic luxury. Like wearing a premium aged leather coat. Then sometimes it's also simply prestige, or masstige, where people want a designer Dior or Chanel that's being shilled or hyled in media, social media, etc. The quality is nothing over the top, but the designs are pleasing and give you everday luxury. The parallels with the rest of the fashion world is the same. Based on peoples needs, wants, budget, etc.A cheaper brand I can vouch for the quality of just off the top of my head is Vycoz. South Korean. Literally 1/4 the cost of Jap luxury brands. Spring steel (not titanium) which is still extremely strong and light. Screwless designs a la Lindberg or Germanshit like Mykita or ic Berlin, also for like 1/4 the price.
>>18776080yeah fair but at the same time this is a frag discussion board so you're always going to get people that are excited about a specific brand. i wouldn't call it shilling since that's a bit the point of these threads. like when a new movie comes out, it's not shilling to discuss it.i do think though that PdE is a well balance brad that does nice niche perfumes. i think they're all fairly unique and have a decent price to them as well

>>18776314If your face is rounder, try some square or more angular frames. It's all about proportion too, needs to fit properly and not be too big or too small proportionally to your face.Rimless has been making somewhat of a comeback as part of that general late 90s/early 2000s revival. Especially styles like Cartier square rimless sunglasses. Chopard have their own versions of it, so does Linda Farrow. DITA META-EVO ONEs for e.g. are a bulkier version of this. If you want a budget version of the look, check out the new Ray-Ban ASAP rocky square rimless sunglasses release. In general, try sleeker/slimline designs, maybe with a bit more wrap to the frame and something that doesn't have too much depth. It's one of those things where you have to try them on because it will either work or it will look silly depending on face proportions, shape, etc.As for colours, in acetate tobacco coloured transparent frames have been in recently. Try lenses that aren't grey/dark green or brown for a change.Retro styles like thick oversized acetates or 70s inspired metal frames are also having their moment like picrel from Cutler & Gross.

Wearing Black Tie on an arm and Angelique Noire on the other.Black Tie has a sort of tanned leather note that reminds me of the suede note in Babycat, does anyone feel the same? There's nothing leathery in the official notes though, or on Fragrantica or Parfumo, and the closest thing there is oakmoss, but I don't get the same impression from classic men's frags that supposedly contain(ed) oakmoss.I don't think it's the orris butter, seeing that plenty of other frags that are full of it smell sort of plasticky but not as leathery; not even Cuir Ottoman has this somewhat penetrating, somewhat acidic tanned leather smell.Angelique Noire is much more naturalistic and green and airy.It doesn't feel as well blended, but I'm sure there's some serious ability required to make the vanilla and angelica smell this distinct. At any rate, they both smell and feel good but not enough to justify their asking price.
Anyone tried the Alain Delon Hommage by Lalique? Semi-recent but haven't heard much buzz. Seems pleasant according to the notes.
