Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per lb of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and burn fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body burning away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

I don’t understand why one is saying I’m 8lbs away from normal and one is saying I’m 20lbs away from normal. Why are they so different? Holy fuck BMI is useless. I’m most disappointed that I’m still obese. Not overweight, obese. I still got a lot accomplished sure, but it’s a bit demoralizing to see that just 20lbs makes me obese vs normal. Yes, I wanted to lose another 20 pounds anyway, but I guess there’s a difference between realizing that if I want to look like my goal, I need to lose 20 pounds, as opposed to “No lmao you need to lose 20 pounds just to be acceptable your real goal is probably 30lbs away”. Numbers dont lie, YET the scale is saying I’m almost human but the tape measure says I’m still very far away. FUCK. I wouldn’t be so disappointed if I’d just measured first and disregarded BMI entirely.

I have this problem too, I take melatonin to fall asleep quicker. It can make you a bit groggy the next day though, so try not to depend on it too much. Use it when you're starving at night and would be overeating otherwise.

Bros I learned you can air fry a boiled egg. Obviously not boiled but you get what I mean. It came out great. 300° F for 11 minutes. It came out perfectly, better than any boiled egg I’ve ever had.


This is a game changer for those that are like me and hate prepping food, which can cause one to be in kidney to opt for shitty junk that’s easy to prepare. 10 minutes and I have some eggs, maybe an optional 5 minute ice soak. I do 3 eggs with a bit of butter and toast at 10pm, no problems with hunger even if I stay up late and I don't wake up at night hungry
I think if you eat something with casein protein it's going to work even better
I sleep well every night subjectively, and objectively 5-6 nights a day - sometimes my deep sleep is lower for some reason even if I don't realize it(I use a sleep tracker) but it took a lot of sleepmaxxing to get there
this is at 1500kcal
any lower and I also sleep well, but because of pure exhaustion(my best sleep was when I was multi-day fasting)

tfw got so fat that my arms go numb sometimes and I have a hard time going up stairs. mainly come by here once ever few months to shitpost. should probably start fixing my health at some point but im still in the chasing-the-dragon phase with my food addiction. on saturday I snuck out without telling my partner and had a whole steak dinner with a baked potato, I ordered extra butter on both the potato and steak. it was delicious. Ok, let me explain these numbers to you, gorl fren. The graph on the left defines the "ideal" BMI as 18.3, straddling the line between "Underweight" and "Normal". The graph on the right defines "Normal" as 25 BMI, straddling the line between "Normal" and "Overweight". The one on the left has you pegged at 32.0 BMI, while the one on the right thinks you are only 26.6. This is either a calculation error, or you have put in the wrong height on one of these charts (BMI should only calculate based on height and weight). It's "safer" to aim for the lower BMI, since that puts you as far as possible away from "Overweight", without dipping into "Underweight" territory. Hope this helped to sort things out for you.

Approaching my first waistline checkpoint, 30 inches. I'm about 30 and a half right now and will likely hit 30 soon. Original goal was somewhere below 30 since that's where most of my clothes fit comfortably. Some grecian ideal calculator said my ideal waistline should be about 27 inches since I have 6 inch wrists but that seems insane. I can't even get smaller than 28 with half-asssed vacuum posing. I guess it really depends on what kind of exercise you are doing. If you are just chilling out on the couch, cutting is super easy. If you start lifting heavy and sweating, you end up dehydrated qnd start burning muscle.

No, BMI assumes no difference between fat and muscle. A bodybuilder would be considered "obese" under BMI because they carry so much muscle. As long as BMI is in the correct range, there is usually nothing to worry about.

In the past a 500 deficit + sedentary had me feeling like shit. Now I’m probably in a 1500 deficit and I’m way more active, at minimum I go on a walk for a few hours each day. But I feel fine. Those people tend to just be crabs. I’ve heard a disturbing amount of “that’s an eating disorder! You want lose more? But you aren’t that fat anymore! You need to stop!”. I’ve seen a lot of women who lose weight but never get down to normal, they just stay chubby and accept it as good enough. Someday I’d like to put on real muscle for sure, but if BMI is already maligned with my goals then there’s not much point to track it anymore. Okay /fat/, I'm 5'10", 180lbs. I've lost over 110 pounds, and I'm basically in the healthy weight range. While I'm ecstatic, I'm also upset that I'm easily somewhere between 25% and 30% body fat right now despite being 180, so I look frankly horrible, pic related best represents me.
I've barely worked out in my life, and I need decent first steps towards an exercise regiment. Any good pointers to some resources? I really need to begin focusing on building muscle and burning my remaining body fat, it feels like a whole new beast compared to just cutting.

Not those anons, but yeah you’re right. I started lifting when I had 30 lbs left to lose. It’s said often that lifting will help you burn fat but if you do that, your weight loss slows down way too much. I gained about 8 lbs of muscle but only lost 10 more lbs of fat when I should have lost 15 more lbs of fat. I know this because I got the hydrostatic fat body composition scale done to see where I was at.

I’m gonna get down to a proper bmi before I start lifting again.

Okay bros, feeling ready, just want a reality check. I'm 290 lbs, 6 ft. Most estimates I see say I should weigh around 170 lbs. How quickly can I lose 120 lbs assuming I have a high tolerance for hunger so I run deep calorie deficits? How does resistance training complicate things since I know I'll put on weight in the form of muscle? When will there be a noticeable/drastic difference in appearance? I can grab at my inner thighs and it doesn't even feel like regular fat, you know that squishy pinchable fat? It feels hard and rubbery, not fatty at all. I'm probably going to end up dead from whatever fucked up shit is going on beneath all this fat.

Well, all I can tell you is, if you still have fat thighs and hips, the only thing you can do is keep on losing weight. I wouldn't bother switching to building muscle yet. 180 lbs at 5'10 is still kinda fat, sucks to say. Maybe try getting down to 160 and re-assess from there.

Do you have dumbbells? Those machines can workout your upper body well. The only thing it can do for legs is quad extension which isn’t too good. You can reasonably use it for rows and then use it for… that movement where you push them together in front of you. And also lat pull downs.

So rows, the chest press?? are good together. Then for lats, that’s a pull workout but you need dumbbell raises for the push factor. Then for legs, you can do squats and whatever variation of deadlifts, lunges, and single leg versions of squats and deadlifts.

You can possibly divide those exercises into two workouts. Do either row/chest press or lat pull/db raises per workout. Then choose 2 leg workouts from the options I gave you. And add in like 2 ab exercises.

It’s debatable but for fat loss, you should do more sets at a lighter weight at higher reps, 15 reps maybe. Rest as little as possible between sets. Do each set 4x

I’m sure someone will come out and bitch me out but that’s the way I’ve always done it. Lmk if that was too confusing

For me it's Don Layman even though weight loss is usually a small portion of his responses/talks and his specialty seems to be protein. Seems far more trustworthy to me because I feel like he doesn't seem to be as incentivized by money as others with him being ~70 and retired. Kevin Hall has interesting webinars I like to watch because his labs have enough resources to put human guinea pigs in a controlled environment in their facility and control what they eat. Layne Norton felt like a grifter at first but some of that faded away, I thought his "how fat loss works" 6 part video was interesting.

You can lose maybe 1-2 lbs a week. I’ve seen some guys on here lose more than that. You can do the funny water fasting thing some people do but just take a look at the sticky in OP and you’ll get a decent point in the right direction.

There’s 3555 in a lb. If you do a 1000 cal deficit a day, you’ll lose more than 2 lbs a week. You can get there in 60 weeks or less.

But to say you’re great at eating less would mean you’ll have to keep eating less for over a year. I dunno how some of these guys do it. I don’t have 100+ lbs to lose. I’m working with about 50 from the start so 1-1.5 lbs is what I need.

if someone can be fat as shit and not have any health issues i genuinely envy them. I have a super light frame so once I sail past 150lbs I start getting issues. Fat gets stored around my throat and restricts my breathing which makes living harder in general. Sleep apnea kicks in, any kind of swelling restricts my breathing further to the point where I can't sleep without thinking I'm going to die.

I 100% agree, this is the biggest key. I've lost significant weight a handful of times in the past, but I always gained it back plus more. I always thought "once I reach my goal weight, I can FINALLY go back to eating whatever I want", as if weight loss was a punishment. I now realize that eating healthy, exercising, and counting your calories are absolutely required to maintain good health, it's not something you do for a short period of time and then you're done forever. I know for sure it'll stick this time because I finally changed my mindset.

I need to lose another 5 kg maybe, and will do that slowly to not get super loose skin. My skin is a bit lose now, but my understanding and hope is it will tighten up a bit over the next year. It`s much better than the skin being filled with fat though. I`m 43, so if you are younger it will be less of a problem for sure.

I did 20:4 for 2 months losing 2 kg a week before cutting down to 16:8, then a bit later cut out fasting in the weekends, so I would not go down to fast..

Download Greyskull, use one of the premade routines, then modify them as you get more experienced

At this point doing literally anything will benefit you, don't get hung up on targeting what muscle groups or doing how many sets of what exercise. Build a habit of going to the gym and picking things up until you get sweaty and gassed. Then once that's a habit you can micromanage.

BMI judges you by weight, you should be high normal weight or slightly overweight unless you're training a lot of cardio. Being slightly overweight is good, being fat is bad. Overweight =/= fat

BF% is a better judge if you're actually fat or not. You should never be above 18%, preferably 12 - 15%.

It's like $15-25 for one HG kit and even if you're purely snapping it can take hours to finish. The sky's the limit as far as how much you want to customize if you want to do shit like painting or decalwork.

starting at 116 kg 12 years ago, gone up and down since then, was 108,5 when I started September, 77.5 now.

I am gonna try and be patient, and stay on it, before I lost 25, 15 or 10 kg and when straight back up. Difference now is I cut sugar(baked goods, sweets anything with refined sugar) and hope it will hold this time.

So, I am giving it 2 years. I build muscle, wait for the skin to tighten up a bit(do collagen peptide supplements ) in the end I hope I don`t need to much surgery to remove excess skin, and if I do, that I have been able to save some money to do so.

It’s 2pm and I haven’t felt the need to eat at all today. Genuinely don’t understand but I’ll take it. I should be losing 3-5lbs a week but I don’t think I should stress or obsess about that, just stick to what I’m doing and weigh myself in a few weeks, assess and determine what if anything needs to be changed and weigh self again in another few weeks and so on.

Holy fuck 31kg loss not bad! Yeah I’ve heard time and again it’s a lifestyle thing, my weight cycling was always in direct relation to pregnancy. I’d gain 30lbs and keep it waaaay longer than I should, while already being very very overweight. Twice. I’ve still got a lot of “sticky fat” on my skin, so this is NOT all skin, but it is extremely loose and doesn’t really feel like part of me. It probably won’t go away for another few years assuming I’m done having babies, get down to a lean body fat and stay there. But eh, better than being 20.8kg heavier and at 152.4cm.
