Early 20s, male, 5'7" to 5'9", around 160 lbs. My goal is to maintain myself and stay healthy as I age, to get to 60s or 70s before being significantly crippled by age. In addition to building muscle, I do high incline treadmill walks for 1 hour or walks around my community for to 2 hours regularly. The latter I do every single day.

Recently, younger brother (a basketball athlete) and dad suggested I focus more on strength training to build around 15 pounds of muscle. Not crazy. But less on cardio.

They also said I shouldn’t be eating rice and vegetables as much as I do because I can’t build muscle off of that.

I always eat that mixed with rotisserie chicken or frozen, fresh chicken, though. I eat an entire paper plates worth of all that mixed together like 3 times a week. tell them that. They insist chicken doesn’t have “Enough” protein, rather stuff like beef, that I should be consuming protein within 20 minutes of an exercise, and that I’m better off just drinking a protein shake.

I hate protein shakes, they are sugary, full of chemicals. I've gotten myself off of sugar and am now satisfied with simple, low flavor snacks like some weird Indian cookies and I usually try to see if fruits and veggies fill me up first. I focus on smaller snacks or fruits over meals, but eat like once a day. I also drink 3-5 liters of water daily.

While I'll consider their advice, I'm open to seeking a second opinion to enhance my overall performance.

Yes, my farm equipment in Christ, lean chicken is a good source of protein.
>>
Chicken has more protein per gram than ground beef. Your family is full of bullshit.

Yeah, two of my sisters are overweight and I can see it in the way they move. It’s killing them. I hate seeing it but I can’t do much.

But I can’t judge them for that. They’re advancing their careers, while I still don’t know how to drive. It’s just something I acknowledge in my mind whenever they tell me I’m thinking too hard because I tell them I already ate a plate full of fucking French fries and I’m not hungry anymore
