How can you unironically help someone who is drug addicted and very intelligent. I am not talking about myself believe it or not but I do know a close guy to me that is very smart but somehow has fallen into the drug degeneracy and is getting worse everyday I feel like his time before it gets way too bad is about to come
People don't change very often, and if they do it comes from within. You can't help someone who doesn't want help. Once you realise this simple truth you can stop worrying bout other peoples mistakes and relax more.
> be hospital security >Every week it's the same people>Whoops almost died of a OD>I'll for sure get off it this time!>Wash and repeat until they actually diePeople will only ever get off of it if you let them fall to rock bottom and they WANT to
>>74132622Smart people can be just as crippled by mental health issues as anyone. A powerful computer can still be affected by a virus. Your friend has to want to change. Your friend is still operating on emotions, being very intelligent is just a way to better act out your emotions. He has to be convinced he had a problem and that the problem is worth solving
>>74132622What drugs? (that you know of)
He's not gonna get out of this without medication and therapy, something to rewire his brain and give him new perspectives. Seems counterintuitive, but yeah, chances are that he will need drugs to stop drugs.
>>74132622Just tell him that he'll be sucking cocks for a hit if he goes down this path. It happens to every addict
>>74132622Encourage them to go to rehab. That's really all you can. Everything else is a half measure.
>>74132622>who is drug addicted and very intelligentNOSUCHTHINGanyone with any brains would know what drugs do and how their quick fix leads to a void and mounting health issues. Fuck your retarded friend. Their brains is already fried and cant return to form.
>>74132756A tired cliché
>>74132622They need more protein and to lift weights (unironically).
>>74132774Retard
>>74132622The best thing you can do is to not be an enabler. I had a friend like this before. I tried a lot to help him in many different ways. He didn’t want any help that wasn’t going to help him further his addiction (cash, a place to stay, etc.). He ultimately cut me off because he thought I was against him when in reality I was only against his addictions. I still don’t know what happened to him but at the end of the day, we all have our own life and our own problems to worry about. You can’t follow a person 24/7 to keep them in line, they need to make an effort to help themselves. One thing about addicts though, is they know how to sweet talk. They’ll say exactly what you want to hear, just to go and buy drugs the second you take your eyes off them.
>>74132622You can't help those who don't want to be helped. One of the most reliable ways to get people to realize their errors is heavy consequences that change their daily life. Pretty much what >>74132699 said.
>>74132622Been clean for 3,5 years now and I can confirm that in the majority of cases people don’t change because of extrinsic motivators. The best you can do is be a good friend and suggest/hint that they’d be happier if they were off substances. I had friends and family come up to my place to check on me, and to convince me to get help. It was only when I hit my rock bottom, (which was far more shallow than your hardcore addict) that I admitted I desired to live a different lifestyle. Clever addicted have a way of rationalizing their addiction and it can be a long proces before they are willing to change. Willingness to partake in the gruelling process of changing a self destructive lifestyle like that is what makes or brakes long-time sobriety. It’s not the drugs that’s the problem, it’s the person that needs to be stripped and torn apart. To rebuild it takes vulnerability and willingness. The process is different for everybody but there are some similarities. Just be a good friend, express your affection, hint at the possibility of a more satisfactory life, and pray to god they see the light.
Just explain/give info how dopamine works and that it's a zero sum game for emotions and a huge loss for finance and health. Some huberman podcasts or dopamine nation books. Easy peasy explain it quite well on porn example. You can pay him to study all that with the condition that he pays you double if he quits doing drugs after that.
>>74132733Checked.This...
>>74134686Does porn mess with dopamine?
>>74132657fpbp.struggled with addiction myself and i had the most supportive network around me trying to get me to quit(it kinda helped), the only thing that made me stop was that i wanted to myself. some encouragement is fine to maybe help him realize what hes doing. "whatever you are trying to escape isnt going to go away from doing drugs, when you wake up sober tomorrow you might start to realize that" is what got me to slowly realize that drugs only cause more problems no matter how sweet the high is. its 100% an egotistical and illogical thing and you shouldnt feel you have to do something. if its actually addiction hes hurting for some reason.
>>74132622Which drug?
>>74134686>hubermanI'm not taking advice from a jew who cheats on his wife
>>74137461He isn't married. He has six girlfriends, or used to anyone lol.
>>74137461more like andrew PUBERMAN, amirite bros?!?!?!?!?

>>74132622as an alcoholic, all the people ITT saying you can't help him are right. nothing anyone did for me ever helped me get sober, because I didn't WANT to be sober. it took hitting bottom, and I don't think even that would have stopped me if it weren't for the complete change in my thinking that came from it, which I attribute to an act of God. one day something will just snap in him and he'll get help of his own volition. or he'll die first, it's luck of the draw honestly.
>>74132622Give him this book and say no balls
>>74132622tell them to not speak to you again until they are soberdo not contact them until they contact you and live a sober lifestyle
>>7413262212-step programs. Following the steps themselves are not as important as just being involved and participating in AA/NA. Talking frequently and openly about addiction, with other similarly-suffering people, having a sponsor, sharing an environment in which complete abstinence is encouraged but failure is understood, and just increasing the involvement of sober people in your life and eliminating the other drug abusers, that's where the value really is.Kind of like crossfit. Most of the value of crossfit isn't because God says do shitty pullups and box jumps, but because there's a social aspect of people encouraging you to go all out, push yourself, keeping you accountable, etc.. >>74132774Almost every great writer/artist had a drug problem. Their brains process too much and they can't cope without help. Don't get me wrong, brainlets get addicted too, but geniuses are more prone to it than the general pop.Source: my ass, but it could be true.
>>74132622What drugs is he on? How bad things can get is quite dependent on the substance in question.
>>74132622Rehab and anonymous substance abusers groupI know a guy who has burned his apartment in a drug induced psychosis thinking the CIA wad watching him, and after 2 years of rehab he's, like, a normal human being.
I disagree with the others that say you can't help him. You may try to help him and fail several times and then feel impotent to change the situation. You'll also notice it takes that inner change of mind for the guy to actually help himself. That being said, I believe, what you do and say to him may speed up this decision, even without his or your awareness.>>74133336>The best thing you can do is to not be an enabler.This. Just by not supporting the habit you're doing a lot of help and showing other stuff outside from the addiction as well (literally anything, a job, bowling, karate, doesn't matter)
>>74137461He isn't Jewish
>>74139421>huberman>not JewishHe's either Jewish or German
>>74132622You don't get of addictions, you just shift them to something less destructive.
>>741326221. Wean off one drug at a time2. Improve your life at the same time (no breaks)
>>74139529But I don't want to
>>74139529yea, don't quit everything at once but track your progress and methodically taper down your doses. fill your dead time slots with something like reading, learning, exercise, etc.
