>>100044128Why no bigger desk and external monitor?
No offense to anyone in tihis thread. But I don't belive in battle stations. These days, ANY work other than large model rendering, or AI model training can be done on any laptop the size of a macbook. And even those can be done through the cloud from a small computer. Why would you want this huge area that takes up space in your room? Why not just get a small laptop and use the cloud for large storage spaces or high amount of processing power?
>>100045925Developers need screen space. Even if a laptop can have enough power for our job, you still need a big screen or two, and a mouse, and a full keyboard, and at that point you're using the same space with the laptop than with a desktop computer.
>>100045925>t. seething cuck coping over his wife forbidding him from owning a desktopGet better bait or kill yourself, preferably the latter.
>>100042101im so lazy <_>
>>100045996Holy shit, I love the piss lighting. I need to find the right kind of filter to achieve that.
>>100042536>coldsteel gestureSomeone shoop an office chair made out of knives, like the throne of swords.Cold Steel is a knife and weapon company.Steelcase is a chair company. You're autistic enough that you should know the difference.
>>100045879>why no bigger deskThis desk is horrible, but it is what it is and I’m going to use it for a while longer. The question for me is not “why not a bigger desk?” the question is “why a desk at all?”. I’d like to get rid of it soon after I get a new more powerful laptop.>why no external monitor Don’t need it. Less is more.
>>100045996Where did you get that bottle of Fanta? It has a 2012 cap on it.
>>100045925The better question is, why would you ever use a laptop unless you're working on the go a lot, or doing something else that requires portability? If you care about ergonomics, comfort, and productivity, you already have a decently large desk, maybe even height-adjustable; either a large monitor or multiple monitors; a good keyboard; a mouse or trackball; a highly adjustable chair. At that point, a desktop computer isn't going to make much space difference unless it's some colossally large full tower case. So why not get one when desktop computers are simply better at being a computer: far more upgradeability, better cooling potential, more storage potential, more ports, they usually even have better sound.
>>100042137>guy with no life makes fun of guy with no life who tells other guy with no life to get a life.
>>100046488>Don’t need it. Less is more.Sounds like cope. If you think that using a laptop for extended periods of time is fine, you're either very small or very not in touch with your body, as woo-y as that sounds.
>>100045996>FantaHow many pounds do you weight, mister?
>>100046636efficiencyportability is a legitimate reason as well. you shouldn't be sitting in your room all day.

>>100046739I'm currently at the last season
>>100046713Yep, laptops have lower power usage. Personally I don't really care, my desktop doesn't use enough to be a significant cost. I value ergonomics, comfort, and computing power a lot more.>>100046727You could, but laptops have a lot of limitations as computers. For me it makes more sense to have both. I use a desktop at home and I sync my stuff to a Thinkpad for the rare occasions I need to do stuff on the go.

I see Røde I use a lav mic for teams calls and it works well but I want to set up something more stationary>>100044128Eeehhhh, if I had to pick one I’d go MacBook. I don’t like the framework laptop as a product, they’re just mediocre laptops that happen to have full service manuals and a consumer front end storefront for parts. That’s cool, but they’ll be in the exact same boat as any other laptop 5 years down the line. Where a part breaks, you buy a used replacement or modern equivalent on eBay, and replace it, like anything else. The MacBook Air is simply a different type of machine, good battery life, highly portable. You sacrifice every other attribute for that though. But if the goal is a small, portable laptop, mba.>>100043845>redacted poster>>100043067>symmetrical pedal placementCringe>>100042101I feel like you just need to buy cubicles.Like just proper kit cubicles, I think your setup would benefit from a small, enclosed work area.
yes before you ask I live in an apartment close to a university so it looks like a university apartment. yes I wish I had a real home and yes I'm sure you used to live in an apartment just like this
>>100047600>You know what you must do, you need a second sony mini tvI actually ALMOST snagged an Indextron off of YAJ recently. But then I saw that it was untested and it didn't have a power supply. I also read up that they're apparently very failure-prone and extremely miserable to repair.
>>100046902I'll be honest and say that I don't know the level of scientific support for each of these recommendations. I just grabbed a nice-looking image from Wirecutter because all ergonomic recommendations tend to be similar. The way I actually became convinced that ergonomic setups are worthwhile years ago is by stumbling upon ergo.human.cornell.edu, trying out their guidelines, and noticing that I feel better after long stretches of computer use.In particular, noticed that I instinctively slouch when using a screen that is significantly below eye level or has text that is too small. This applies to all laptops, but it also applied to the old 19" monitor I was using. Even when I consciously corrected my posture, I would start slouching again soon. When I did it for more than about 4 hours in a day, my spine would feel weird or even a bit painful at chest level. I was just so used to it that I'd been ignoring it. It went away after I got an adjustable-height 24" monitor and put it at eye level (my eyes are a centimeter or two below the display area).I also noticed that when using a laptop or a keyboard that's far from the edge of the desk, I push my shoulders forward and together. This gives my chest less space to expand, so I instinctively make my breaths a bit shallower, making me tire quicker (similarly to not ventilating the room for hours). This improved when I started putting the keyboard closer to me, which let me keep my shoulders in the same position I have them in when walking. My wrists also started feeling better when I stopped using the feet at the back of the keyboard and instead switched to a small wooden palm rest at the front. It looks a bit similar to pic rel, but imagine the palm rest being a bit less deep and level with the edge of the desk.

>>100048201The socket placement and the lower chip heatsinks, I used to have one and it stands out.I just remember that platform being really cheap for effectively a 1st gen 4c/8t i7 as a Xeon, which is probably more than enough for a box dedicated to playing blu rays and ripping aforementioned blu rays.Seems like a reasonable platform to assemble with spare parts and shove in a corner in my living room. >>100048006The framework is a little expensive compared to the mba. But it appears to be upgradable to some extent and it has a nice monitor with a nice ratio. It would also work well for my workflow and it would allow either Linux or windows(not that I would use it much) or both, it is a good option for that reason alone. At the same time the MBA has a nice screen, nice webcam and nice sound card. The cons are absolutely zero air flow, will it burn up to 90 Celsius if I’m on a zoom meeting for two hours? Soldered storage is no bueno plus lack of ports is also no bueno. But it offers a nice experience and package with great battery life. The airflow is concerning but I’ve never used it so for all I know it doesn’t get that warm. And it is cheaper than the framework.Although the x280 is also cheap used but not good scren

>>100078644it's "ok", and no issues
>>100080523the grey bad boy you see in >>100047985i bought the same one a couple weeks ago and now i cant stop noticing it whenever it shows up.
>>100062433I love you too (no homo)
>>100078608>You're a fucking joke when it comes to cable management.heaviest hitting insult I have received in my entire life, I might never recover
>>100081237Are you considering suicide?
>>100081202Your place reminds of when I was just starting out in a new apartment at 21. Very strange times. I'm glad I'm not an overthinker, otherwise that would've been a darker time.Any plans for the weekend?
>>100081382No, but I imagine a lesser man in the same situation would be
>>100081560>Any plans for the weekend?quartely vat reporting, grocery shopping, waiting impatiently for my 3 printed moonlander legs to arrive
>>100073934Stoners amuse me with how their hobby also involves collection and appreciation for practical but also artistically elaborate pieces of glasswork.I went to the Indianapolis children’s museum with some coworkers and their kids, and one of them knew god damn everything about Chihuly, looking at the massive piece from that artist in the main stairwell. Because he has been learning about glassblowing art and history in order to perfectly craft what he referred to as “a family heirloom tier gravity bong” to, and I quote “take the most exquisitely crafted rips in history”.The Chihuly in the Indy children’s museum attachedAlso the Indy children’s museum is super fucking cool
>>100042101>no keyboard tray Damn you niggas hate comfy? Just fuck my shoulder up I guess
>>100081675>vat reportseems complicated and boringI'll be programming, lifting, and doing a humiliation ritual
>>100081732I actually lowered the table to the correct height, so I don't need some fucking add on keyboard tray
>>100081741>seems complicated and boringYes, it is, and everytime I think "maybe it will be a simple copy paste from last time", some new situation that I have never seen before comes and fucks up my shit and I get really stressed and ask my accountant for guidance, who replies to me in very cryptic language always, it really grinds my gears all this shit
>>100081753Anything more than 65cm will fuck me up. Dunno why most desks are either 75 or 80cm high.
>>100081796 I have mine currently at 69,5 cm but I feel that since I am often barefoot at my desk, I need to drop it to about 67 cmmost desks absolutely suck because they are "one size fits all" approachMy desk legs are height and width adjustable, and I had the desk surface custom made because I wanted 240 x 100 cm, the extra depth is really great because it means the support beam that runs along the length of the middle is far from your kneesmaybe I should have taken a thinner surface for even better ergonomics, but I feel that since it is so large that a thinner one would maybe bend under its own weight? it's 3 cm thick but has zero edges so that is the total thicknes, unlike my previous IKEA tables with think beams of metal under the surface
I noticed some almost invisible to normal people flaws with the custom made table surface, so I blasted their review page holding back nothing of my thoughts about it they were in panic mode and buillt me a whole new table surface, came and collected the old one and replaced it with 2 guys hauling it up and down 2 flight of stairs I kinda panicked when I also found very veryvery minor flaws with the raplacement table surface, but I accepted that this is the world we live in and only very rarely do you find perfectionstill, the current table surface is almost perfect, the imperfections are of several orders of magnitude less than with the first oneso I am fairly satisfied, taking into account the limited brain capacity of the people who work in manufacturing of such items, it's the best I could have expected
by the way that table surface cost €366,93 exluding 21% VAT, and the legs are €315,00 exluding 21% VAT
>>100077203for a typical setup it makes no sense. it only makes sense if you have a pc hooked up to a tv and youre far away from the screen. or unless you move around a lot with all your shit.
>>100073934>forum homepage on screenWhich forum, desu?
>>100081741you post about the humiliation ritual a lot
>>100081789I will probably have to start calculating ABCs for my investments, and I'm seething over how much fuckery that's going to create. Goodluck my guy

>>100077214Not him, but a very large monitor or multiple monitors make it more convenient to program. Personally, I prefer three 24" monitors.

God. I love my proprietary games.
>>100044128The Macbook will get better battery life and has a good trackpad but OSX is horrific and the key travel is ass.The Framework will get worse battery life, the trackpad is very strictly okay, but the key travel is really good (especially compared to newer Thinkchuds, those suck dick) and you're not married to macos. Both have dogshit thermals if you get the Air or Ryzen. If you like sitting at a desk and using an external keyboard and mouse, please please please PLEASE consider a desktop. At least build an ITX something or other.
>>100077327>>100077550Does having the keyboard at these angles feel better than having it flat? Do you type faster that way?
>>100081732You don't need a keyboard tray if you have an adjustable desk + adjustable chair. Just adjust them to a comfortable height.
