I'm too tired to read into that ifi meme but basically some headphones need more power to produce the sound they're meant to produce without distortion and it's self explanatory that having headroom is better. Doesn't mean you should use an amp where you have the volume knob at 9 o'clock before it becomes too loud, but you also don't want one where you're cranking the knob to 90% volume just to get to actual listening levels.

i'm using a cheap ass usb dac/amp and yet it claims i have TOO MUCH power for the majority of the headphones i checked using the calculator, that's the weird part of me. i don't want to keep my volume down to such a level i'm losing sound quality to not damage my ears

hope it makes more sense now

Look elsewhere.
>>
>>100050060
Max power of an amp doesn't mean anything. There are amps that can boil a kettle with the cleanest sine waves imaginable. And there are weak ass amps that will always hiss. The root issue is the absolute noise floor but it's difficult to present in a useful way.
>>
>>100050071
>Or just mod porta pros.
that looks pretty doable, thanks
>>
>>100050164
Keep in mind you will lose all bass. This is the nature of the beast, headphones need a full seal for bass.

ok but that headphone isnt particularly demanding and with -10dB preamp on hd650 youre at only 104dB
i dont get that 2 bit thing anywhere on the site either
>>
>>100050267
the 2bit thing is when you press on the iematch thing down below, here's the link anyway:
https://ifi-audio.com/products/iematch/

the problem it isn't just the aeon it's almost and headphone i tried. and the one i'm getting hd600 was only 1db away from the cutoff
>>
>>100050349
The 2 bits number comes from converting dynamic range to bits. 6dB = 1 bit and it attenuates the sound by 12dB. But if you hear no hiss you aren't getting those 2 bits.
>>
>>100050401
i don't understand all the technical terms. bottom line no hiss = no audio quality loss? the only thing that matters to me is not fucking shit up

almost every headphone i tested was in red, don't get it
>>
>>100050434
Says right there
>Do your earphones suffer from irritating hiss and pop?
If not then don't buy it.
>>
>>100050464
look at the section i highlighted in>>100049961
(it's at the bottom of the second link i sent you)

the argument that is made is that you can use the "proper" volume for some headphones without damging your hearing because it would be too strong, so you need to lower the volume to a level where you lose sound quality

now if the lost sound quality comes if the form of the hisses you mentioned i'm just being retarded and wasting everyone's time but it seems these two phenomena (hissing and lost sound quality) aren't necessarily connected to each other

what's a single ended headphone and what's the difference compared to balanced?
>>
>>100054886
On a single ended headphone both drivers negative terminals are connected together and fed from a single source on the amp.
On balanced headphones each driver has a separate positive and negative connection and the two negative connections are fed separately by the amp (assuming the amp has a true balanced architecture)

Haven't heard them, but the fr looks ok enough, bass is very rolled off through. The measurements are taken from the original one but they're supposed to sound the same. Didn't like the Chifimans I've heard and Moondrop's offerings also don't seem than appealing, in this price range, dynamics are probably better value.

>>100072373
Where I live Tidal has a better library than amazon music and Qobuz, the problem with Tidal is MQA but they are moving from it. Amazon Music was ok but the exclusive mode was shit. Qobuz mid software and much better exclusive mode than both tidal and amazon music, they also offered more info about the music itself which was a plus.
Can't comment on apple and deezer.

Noob question, but I've been searching for an hour and can't find an answer

I just ordered an Asgard 3 with a DAC module for sole use with my heaphones

I currently have a Xonar Essence sound card installed in the computer

The port on the back of the module looks like a printer cable connection

Do I plug the Asgard into a USB-C port in lieu of using my soundcard??

What's the correct way of setting this up?
>>

Just sounds like a USB-B connector. You'd hook that up to whatever USB port on your PC. It should then see the asgard as an audio device and you can then set it so your audio goes through it.

After looking around I decided to go ahead and buy the HD560s(mainly for music, movies, games since I can just buy an audio cable with integrated boom mic).
I found that with my phone and galaxy buds 2 I'm usually listening at 70-80 dB, so if I got that right my PC as the source should have no problems driving it to those levels and I have no need for a pricy amp/etc.?
Would there be any reason/benefits to getting a $10 apple dongle or equivalent?

>>100077090
just test out your headphones first, if you want to go louder, then consider a cheap dac/amp, but if you really only listen at 70-80 db, you should be fine

I am currently using the DT770s with a Scarlett 4i4. I think they are good so far but they hurt my ears and head after a while and I haven't had many other cans to compare them to. What should I get to replace them?
>>
>>100081092
HOLY SHIT
i never thought about drummer heaphones before. Lad, you may have just changed someone's life for the better. Do you have a pair of the UltraPhones or something similar? Can you hear people talking in the next room or do they muffle everything out?
>>
>>100081332
Over-ears suck for physical activity.
>>
>>100081412
Same with in-ear plugs when the sweat factor comes in. What's the best inbetween option?
>>
>>100081394
I don't, not a drummer, but you can find some reviews for them on youtube -- that's how I learned about them.
>>
>>100081394
... but assuming they're supposed to protect your hearing from drums that are getting banged on a feet or two away from your face, I would think you would't be able to hear people talking at normal volume several meters away.
>>
>>100081452
theres nothing good, or nothing at all, for that price
>>
>>100081452
I guess those "sport" earbuds with the extra hooks to keep them in place, or Koss KSC75s with a big supply of new pads.
>>
>>100081452
Bone conducting.
>>
>>100081392

>>

Yea, and from there, only one step away from just wrapping layers of ironed towels across my head. Maybe the turban people know something we don't, thinking-emoji.
>>
>>100081513
Doesn't that give you a headache tho?

The HD600 and Denon ah-d5200 are enough for me. I've sampled extreme high end stuff (HD800, ah-d7200, Hifiman HE1000se, others) but found that while better, they weren't so much more to justify the price. The HD600 I've had for over 10 years, the d5200 for just over a year. Maybe I'll see another set of cans in that range which I'll add, but I don't think I'll venture out of this price bracket.

I need new wireless headphones for under €200
>wireless
Yes, I know, I'm currently looking at these headphones:
Final Audio UX3000
Valco VMK25
1More Sonoflow
Sennheiser Momentum 4 (I can get them for €190 as B stock)
Which one should I go for? If none of them, can you recommend better headphones?

I don't wanna be rude bro but I don't know how to reply to you guys anymore. I feel bad for ignoring you guys, but there's multiple of you asking the same thing over and over again in each thread.

Momentum 4 ofc

AKG K361BT has no ANC and the build quality is garbage, just google it and you'll see tons of broken yokes

Has anyone messed with these chink planar drivers at all?

Anyone have any suggestions for a new pair of pads to replace my stock pads on the AKG K702s? I've had these bad boys for more than a decade but it's time for a replacement, the cushion is nearly gone.

Dekoni. They also publish FR graphs for how much the pads affect the sound which is nice.

someone got a solution on how to fix the headband on this othewise glorious piece of gear (avantone planar)?

What you mean that little crack? Either glue it or 3D print a replacement piece (and sand it if you want it to look smooth).

naah not the crack thats just the a plastic seam (no its not all out of steel).. the band is main band is way to inflexible and wobbly inside.. I thought about like putting some gel pads on the inside of the band like this .. anyone got ideas where to get something like that?
>>
>>100092928
Could do what that one anon did and get a headband made out of 3D printed TPU. Not sure if a model exists for the avantone in particular though.
>>
>>100092939
> 3D printed TPU
ow yes! good idea
>exists for the avantone
nah I think not, nothing exists for the avantone, way to niche
>>
>>100092956
If you have experience with CAD (or know someone that does) it shouldn't be too hard to whip up a model for a headband, especially since you have the actual headband to go off of.

>>100092825
not related but how is the avantone planar compare to hifiman and other planar in the same price range like edition xs, ollo s5x, etc. sound wise?
>>
>>100093073
vs edition xs its way more analytical, the planars are made as monitors first, but the bass is not what most would want (many would say its sounds flat in lowends, but I like it) ... I have not listened to the ollo s5x so I cant say but I guess its also more made for "fun" listening ..

one thing about the avantone for me is unparallaled tho: the audio positioniong is in its own class of all headphones I ever heard .. for the price its hard to find better magnetic planars
>>
>>100068195
Thanks for the straight-forward answer. I got my kph30i's today. Definitely do not want to sleep with them in the case that I roll over them.

I sadly have not, that said the avantone planars are of often compared to the audeze LCD-X in neutral sound, pretty much the only two neutral sounding planars I know of .. just that the audeze cost $1500

since i've found shitty buds (Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2) here, i can leave the qc[15, 25, 35] and the Benz pair there and bring only the buds back.
there will no longer be casual, on-the-go audio for me and maybe that's for the best.

Can anyone give me a few pointers to what headset to buy? I've finally gotten some money and I want to buy new audio stuff.

Location: Brazil macaco;
Budget: I don't have like a hard limit or idea, I'm looking for something that isn't expensive as fuck while still delivering a good quality;
Intended use: Music, gaming, maybe mixing;
Kind (open or closed, over-ear or on-ear): Closed back, over-ear;
Preferred tonal balance (or genres you like): as flat as possible;
Past headphones and your thoughts on them: just gaymer stuff;
Source(s) (PC, interface, headphone amp, phone, ...): PC, but I'd buy an amp. Would also appreciate an amp recommendation to go with the headset.

Should I get these? I used to use DT770 until the cable just exploded one day, ended up replacing it with a DT990 3 years ago to try out openback and while it's still working the earpads have half detached and the plastic tabs literally crumbled to dust for some reason. I also want to go back to closed back for the better noise isolation.
