>>100067667Linux is unironically, objectively bad. Sure, you can say I was "filtered" by Linux. I prefer my applications to work, my user interfaces to be responsive, basic aspects of the operating system to function as intended and expected. If liking functional software means I was filtered, sure, I was filtered. The best thing about Linux? The command line. Everything else? Dogshit. Even the fucking installer process was buggy. In the first day, my desktop environment just froze up on me at least three times. Opening certain web pages in Firefox causes audio stuttering. Firefox was my default browser, and then suddenly it wasn't, for no reason. And when I went to set it to default again, it just wasn't in the list of applications. Sometimes applications are running with no indication that they are. I try to exit the application and it just disappears from the GUI but is still running. It's not until I shut down that it finally starts closing. Even something as simple as opening a fucking file explorer can take ~5 seconds, for no apparent reason. The entire operating system feels as if it is held together by bubble gum and scotch tape. Windows is not good either, but at least it fucking functions. At least it can open a file explorer. At least it can remember my default browser and not lose track of its existence. At least I can open 5000000 firefox tabs. At least the GUI isn't riddled with bugs. At least it rarely freezes. I guess if I want an alternative to Windows I'll have to look to Apple.

>>100075228Stay away from GNOME and KDE. GNOME is Windows 2.0 (released in 1987) with a more polished look. It needs fucking extensions & shit to make it have the same functionality of a UI made in 1987 (almost 40 fucking years ago). Atleast Windows 2.0 has minimize and maximize built in without extensionshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7gaYTumQPUKDE looks nice and resembles Windows a lot, and is attractive to poeple who are coming from windows, but it's buggy af. In my experience it becomes buggy within hours of actual work and doing more than just watching youtube. It become unusable after 5ish hours of work. >It's not until I shut down that it finally starts closinguse htop to kill stuff. It's not as fancy looking as task manager but you can point and click shit in a desktop environment, making it fairly easy to use>The best thing about Linux? The command line. Everything else? Dogshit.>The entire operating system feels as if it is held together by bubble gum and scotch tape.Usually that is the desktop environment's fault. Linux itself is solid af. I switched to Cinnamon about a year ago and never looked back. All the issues I had in GNOME and KDE went away. I dunno if it's still that way now that they have switched (or about to switch) to Wayland tho>At least it can remember my default browsernever had a problem with it switching so can't help you there sry. That might be the desktop environment doing it.>the fucking installer process was buggyDon't use the GUI installer. I've never seen a GUI package manager that wasn't completely useless. Just use the CLI for that stuff. Most of them are fairly straight forward. >sudo [distro package manager here] install [name of thing]For redhat distros, installing htop is as simple as:>sudo dnf install htopI usually just follow the instructions on the software's website to install shit. Usually it involves copying/pasting 1 or 2 lines of commands and then it's installed.
>>100096426Words of wisdom.I just use MATE. I hate bloat. MATE just eats 400 - 900 MB on my current setup.I've got 8 GB, it's not a lot, but I can afford to run Gnome or KDE comfortably (and did for a long time), but lately I just can't stand the idea of all that memory being wasted on tinkertranny shit. Besides, when you run a Wireshark sniff on a MATE setup, vs KDE or GNOME, the difference is staggering. All those bullshit servicies running in the background and pinging who knows what? Fuck that.

Close not closing is INTENDED BEHAVIOR on macOS.>Even something as simple as opening a fucking file explorer can take ~5 seconds, for no apparent reason. With nuwindows it's getting that bad. So much spaghetticode. Nevermind that it's still based on fucking Internet Exploder. No other OS has a file browser this basic that is this much of a slow clusterfuck on good hardware.>At least it can remember my default browser and not lose track of its existence. It can actually intentionally replace it with Edge because Microshit pushed an update! An update that can make all your printers a specific HP model but not fix decade long bugs where Explorer just opens up randomly every hour!>At least the GUI isn't riddled with bugs.Windows 10 in my experience. Janky animations to this day. Before 2017, so on my old FX 8300 the XAML bloat start menu would slow the entire explorer process to a crawl and render the whole OS unusable. From what I heard they moved it onto a separate process.LTSC 21H2, explorer.exe crashes and reloads quite literally 1 (one) second after login. I've exclusively used SSDs since before 10 existed btw.>At least it rarely freezes.Only time I had that on Linux was due to hardware problems.>The entire operating system feels as if it is held together by bubble gum and scotch tape. But really dude, enough about Windows.
>>100096426Another argument against GNOME and KDE is that they both force you to use Wayland now, and this shit just doesn't work half the time.
