Especially thin laptops.

The Macbook Air M3 weighs 1490g.
The Huawei Matebook X weighs 980g.

Who does this stuff appeal to? They're easier to break, and they're less powerful than thick laptops that weighs 3-4 times as much, since there is much more powerful hardware instead.
>>
they appeal to me because i dont have peasant hands and i take care of my property. poor construction workers may need to buy ugly stupid looking devices.

I have the m1 MacBook Air. Being really thin and light means it is easier to carry around, more comfortable to use when not at a desk (in bed, standing, on your knees on a chair, sofa etc), and when you are at a desk it is much more comfortable to type on because no ledge to jam into your wrists.

I am a medical student an really like it. They are meant for people who move their laptop around regularly and it is amazing for that. Obviously if you're just using it at a desk all day playing games this doesn't matter.

There's nothing to gain by it being thicker, it's fanless, never heats up and is extremely fast. It is very sturdy because it's made of metal, presumably like the Huawei one is and definitely bends less than average plastic windows laptop. I have the base spec 8gb 256gb 7 core model.
>>
>>100083561
Wow you called that one fast. Why don't benchods just stay on their own websites? The second post makes it quite obvious.
>>
>>100083707
>it's fanless, never heats up
that shows that you don't use your laptop for more than probably just writing an email and watching a netflix movie in bed, or else you would know how quick a macbook heats up, throttles and just dies
>>
>>100083729
that shows you haven't used an m-macbook for anything, short of running a local LLM on it you'll never feel it getting warm
>>
>>100083707
Why do people say "it's easier to carry around" as if it means anything? The difference between 1kg and 3kg is so minimal. Unless you're a 10-year-old child, carrying an extra 2kg around feels like nothing.
>>
>>100083883
it's a massive difference, nobody is taking their 3kg gaming brick to school
>>
>>100083883
If you pick it up with one hand there will be less leverage on it, and it's pretty common to grab the laptop by the lower left or right corner with the lid open.
That said my x380 Yoga is fine when carried like this. Unless these days you're expected to type with your hand in that position and it's not cool to rest the laptop on your forearm while typing on it while standing.

I'm 6'4" and far stronger than an average person. You do notice it compared to average windows shitbook but it's mainly when moving bag to desk or balancing it on something/using standing.

>>100083729
I run complete anatomy on it and it doesn't seem phased at all. Doesn't seem phased if I have 20 safari tabs open and 10 pages documents, load of PowerPoints etc

Let face it though 95% of people won't ever use anything more than safari and pages and it's really good for that. It is for work, not for playing video games on.
>>
>>100083883
It’s not that minimal when you’re carrying it around all day every day. I went to college with a 15” laptop before switching to a 14” thin laptop and it made a big difference. The loss in performance was well worth it.

why would you want your portable overpriced toy that you're meant to carry everywhere in the real world to be structurally weak and/or have poor battery life (and thus portability)
Looking at how thin it is, imagine just how many times better it could be with "huge" battery cells that would still keep it under an inch thick, have stronger hinges and won't fold like a piece of paper.

I understand the appeal of being thin, but surely going THAT thin is unhealthy

>>
>>100101688 (me)
Also the reasons people are being so elitist about superficial things like laptop thickness and battery life NOW are a little different from what they were when that comic was written. Competition for a job, friendship, love, or a place to belong is stiffer than ever thanks to wider global availability of transportation technology, immigration, social media, and increasing levels of category hatred across the board, so it's more important than ever to impress upon people the notion that you're desirable. This also makes people hypersensitive to any kind of criticism and quick to either conform and look down on those who can't or don't, or lash out.

That would be my old Lenovo 585. Those little plastic fins on the side broke off, leaving sharp edges that would pick at the nylon of my backpack, which would catch more plastic edges and eventually snap the left side of the case. The keyboard and monitor bezels developed cracks. Soon if I used it on anything but a perfectly flat, solid surface, something inside would short out.

macbook is now a ARM laptop...that ditched Windows support lol. tablets with detachable keyboards basically don't exist for windows because the x86 CPU uses more watts than ARM, and all that hardware is on the keyboard side in a laptop, not behind the screen. If you put all that weight behind the screen, the system needs a support leg to stay upright and is basically ready to tip over. The Asus Z is the only tablet I know of that works the same, and I wanted it but couldn't get over the feature and price tag with a dedicated card, questionable temps, etc, but I'd get one before a macbook.

Forgo the detachable keyboard and make it 2 in 1. the macbook isn't 2 in 1 because Apple needs to sell tablets. The only x86 2in1s are Windows

I like my 2in1 because I don't lose performance, I don't lose mobility, but if you use it like a high performance system it will deplete like one, you don't need neutered components because you need battery life, you need to neuter your settings, processor management.

If I can't confidently beat someone to death with it, if need be, and then use it after then I don't fucking want it. That goes for most things I own unironically.

if it's thin, you can swing it like a blade and concentrate the force of the impact into a smaller area.

Bed usage is unironically lone of the reason I like MacBooks, no underside intake to worry about and runs basically at room temp. It's pretty nice for when I'm done with sitting at my desk but want to stay online late.
And my m1 air is pretty good for travel so far since it's light and I don't need a big bag for it, I am considering getting the 15 for some extra screen estate though.
