Thanks but I'm sticking with Microsoft® Windows™ 11 Enterprise, as it is objectively superior to every single meme autistic nerd OS out there.

See, this is my issue with Debian. If you had installed it on Arch, you would just get the default background.
There's not even a dark theme variant in the DE's that support it, so the transition becomes jarring.

Retard here. Is it worth using Debian stable if I want to run KDE, or should I go with a different distro?

If you want the recently released Plasma 6, no. Consider Fedora (KDE spin), openSUSE Tumbleweed, or Arch.

Not until there's wayland and decent scaling and thumbnails in the file picker
But after that it'll be far superior to Plasma and GNOME, that's for sure

>>100149161
unless they are on KDE 5.27.11 then avoid it. You're missing over a year of bug fixes. KDE 6 isn't ready for any machine that needs to be reliable. It is a complete cluster fuck ( as all major KDE releases are).

yay -S gtk3-patched-filechooser-icon-view glib2-patched-thumbnailer
it will not only have an icon view in your file picker that way, but the file picker will also be able to generate its own thumbnails
>>
>>100150249
Yeah but how fast is that
Last time I heard about these patches I also heard it didn't perform all that well, not that I don't appreciate the autogenerating feature because I don't know who in the name of fuck decided it was a good idea to have the user go and generate thumbnails first through the file manager.

NTA, haven't used patched gtk in years since switching to plasma but I recall it being reasonably fast. No slower than windows thumbnails at least.
The actual reason the footfags kept rejecting the patches was because they just didn't want the feature, it violated their "vision".
>>
>>100150287
>Yeah but how fast is that
just as fast as your normal file picker. thumbnails generate just the same as they would in your normal file manager
I used to have issues with it a few months ago but reinstalled it around a month ago and it's working fine now. only "issue" (if you can call it that, pretty sure that's intended) is that it's an AUR package and it's compiled on your machine rather than a premade binary. takes what, 5 minutes to compile both? haven't timed exactly but it's fast and those packages don't get updated often anyway
>>
>>100150315
Well it's good to know at least it works well
I only want gayland support because there's nothing that can make x11 support my monitor setup correctly, admittedly
>>
>>100150336
yeah my monitor setup isn't exotic enough to require wayland so I don't mind
my main monitor's a 1080p 27" 75Hz so I don't need scaling on it, and my secondary monitor's a 4k 32" 60Hz on which I don't use scaling because all it's used for is games and watching videos
not sure how well X11 handles the different refresh rates but it seems to work fine in my case. also I'm on Nvidia so wayland's out of the question for now
>>
>>100150287
yes
>>
>>100150364
Problem isn't refresh rate per se, I have 2 144hz monitors (no reason other than I didn't want to throw away or sell the older one) so with matching refresh rates there's no motion issue. Problem is VRR won't be supported if there's 2 monitors plugged in, no matter what.
>>
>>100150386
ah alright, that's another feature I don't use (don't have the use for it when my monitors are already low refresh rate) so that never bothered me either kek
if one day I stop being poor and I update my monitor setup then yeah I'll probably need wayland, but by then it'll likely be more mature and xfce will have switched to it, so I think I'm good
>>
>>100150399
Apparently it's supposed to be there for 4.20, I guess it won't be too long
>>
>>100150414
most xfce apps already work on wayland, according to their roadmap (here: https://wiki.xfce.org/releng/wayland_roadmap )
idk when 4.20 is for but their development cycle is rather slow. 4.14 released in october 2019, 4.16 in december 2020, and 4.18 in december 2022. so pretty unlikely to be released before the end of this year
>>
does xfce have wayland yet? playing starsector with shitloads of mods made me wanna switch
>>
>>100150531
Nope, not yet
The minute I can use wayland on xfce I'm done with plasma

it really is
very fast and customizable. the only gripe I really have with it (and it's not even something inherently bad) is that it comes with a shitload of plugins out of the box and I have to spend a few minutes uninstalling most of them kek

I used to use XFCE back in the day (back when it was literally the only DE that was even remotely worth a shit), now I'm switching back to it after like ~6-7 years. I've been using KDE for the past several years and built up a very comfy workflow, then Plasma 6 came along and fucked my shit up. I've been distro-hopping like a fucking maniac for the past month trying to look for a decent distro that's still on 5.27, but they're honestly all dogshit compared to Arch.

So, whatever, I give up. Ratchads, I kneel.
